Missing Media Player toolbar for Windows 7 taskbar

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit PC. On Windows XP I could get Windows Media Player to minimize to the task bar and get nice a nice WMP toolbar in the Task Bar.

Now when I right-click the taskbar and select "Toolbars" there is no "Windows Media Player" toolbar to select.

Any idea how I can switch this on?

Subscribing to Podcasts in Windows Media Player

I'm trying to subscribe to a podcast in Windows Media Player 10, but I did not find any options to do that. If Windows Media Player does not provide that option please suggest any other players (iTunes on Windows sucks).

how to disable Play with Windows Media Player contextual menu?

in Windows (Vista), when viewing a folder, when right clicking on a item, there's the menu “Play with Windows Media Player”.

How to set it so such submenu does not show?

(not sure I want to uninstall Windows Media Player though)

I have no problem if modding Registry is required, just need to know where...

What is the difference between Groove Music and Windows media player in Windows 10?

In Windows 10 there are two applications Groove and the Windows Media Player. By default .MP3 files play in Groove which is the latest edition to Windows 10. However, there is also the older Windows Media Player.

When I choose Open With only then does it show Windows Media Player whereas Groove music appears only on need basis. I don't understand the difference between the two. Are their store related applications or desktop versions?

Windows Media Player: How to start playing a video at a particular time offset?

I'm using Windows Media Player 12 (bundled with Windows 7 RC). I'd like to start it and play a portion of a WMV file at a particular time offset - say 3 minutes into the movie.

This is for demonstration purposes - I'd like to play a segment of the movie, but don't really want to fluff around with the media player controls while I'm in front of my audience.

Is this possible? Are there command line parameters?

Similarly, but less important, can I automatically stop playback after X minutes.

If all else fails, I guess I'll just edit the movie and playback a segment of it :-)

Windows Media Player 12 shows wrong cover art when playing

I have many MP3's with embedded cover art in them (bought them like that) When Windows Media Player plays one of these, sometimes it displays the correct cover but most of the time, it displays the cover from a song that was previously played, sometimes several days before!

I have had this problem for a very long time! And it survived and recent reinstall of Windows 7 (hard drive crash).

My problem is similar to this one but no solution has been posted.

If I try to reproduce the problem at this moment, what happens is that when I double-click on a MP3 in Windows Explorer (Windows 7, WMP12 not already running), the cover that will be displayed is from a MP3 I played earlier in the week, which we'll call (A). The cover display in the status bar of Windows Explorer is correct though. When I change MP3s, (Windows Media Player running this time), sometimes the cover stays stuck still on the cover of (A), sometimes it displays the good one. If I quit at this time and restart Windows Media Player with the same MP3, the cover of (A) is back again...

I do remember having another behaviour closer to the one described in the link, that is, Windows Media Player was lagging always one cover art, displaying the art of the previous song, but maybe that was with WMP11, I can't remember

Did anyone experience this problem and found a solution?

Choose an output audio device different from the default on WMP 11

I like to play my music through a Hi-Fi audio equipment and everything else (like windows sounds, web videos and such) through my default PC speakers.

On WIndows XP I had WMP 9 and I could do that with no problems since I can choose what audio device (which sound card) to use, and that selection is for WMP only, which can be different from Windows' default audio device.

But now that I have Windows Vista and WMP 11 I cannot longer choose an audio device just for WMP, or at least I can't find a way to do it (the control in the options dialog is no longer there).

Was this useful feature really removed from WMP 11? or there is some other way to do it?

I cannot install KB 968211 "this update is not applicable to your computer"

I have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1, genuinely activated.

I want to install Windows Media Player 12 but it seems I require the "Media Feature Pack". I can't seem to find a good installer. I've tried at least four of them, both 64-bit and 32-bit. I am told:

This update is not applicable to your computer.

I've searched for a long time but to no avail. Here's one example:

Any ideas how I can get a working Media Feature Pack installed?

How can I disable the automatic switch to "library" mode in Windows 7's Media Player 12?

Whenever I plug any USB device into my computer while running Windows Media Player 12 in Windows 7, it will automatically swtich the player from the Now Playing mode to Library mode. This is intended to faciliate syncing between Media Player and MP3 players, but it happens for any USB device.

I'd like this to not happen since it's infuriating to see this take place while I'm watching something on a separate screen in Media Player just from plugging in a USB key.

This has nothing to do with Windows autorun, and nothing to do with versions of Windows pre-7.

And no, switching to some other video player is not an option; I've tried them all, none are as good as stock Media Player in 7.

How do you add new folders to be shared from Windows Media Player 12 via DLNA?

I'm using Windows Media Player 12 as a DLNA server in Windows 7. When I add new files to my %USERPROFILE%\Videos directory, they show up on my DLNA clients just fine.

However, I've tried adding new folders to the Videos Library by clicking on the <#> locations link from the Videos Library and choosing Add.... Note that this is the same dialog that comes up from going to Organize->Manage Libraries->Videos in Windows Media Player.

I've also tried dragging and dropping the files directly into Windows Media Player so they show up there.

Neither of these options made the files show up on my DLNA clients.

Is there a way to get Windows Media Player 12 to share video files outside of %USERPROFILE%\Videos over DLNA?

Microsoft keyboard (8000)'s play button opens Windows Media Player rather than Zune on Windows 7

I'm currently using the Microsoft 8000 keyboard on Windows 7 and before installing Microsoft's Keyboard application, it was opening Zune and playing music with the play button. After installation, it is now opening Windows Media Player (WMP) rather than Zune.

If I have Zune open and press play, it will open WMP and upon pressing it again, will kick off the play command in Zune. I've checked the default programs in the control panel and have set Zune as default for all available, but that hasn't changed anything.

Has anyone run into this before? I'm a bit stumped as googling does not produce any relevant results.
