UTF8 characters in windows 10 bash terminal

I have installed the new bash shell on windows 10. I'm using it together with ZSH. However, none of the utf8 characters work, they appear as square blocks. How do I enable utf8 character encoding in the shell as default? Is that possible?

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 1607 fails to install KB3176938 with 0x800F0922

So this is a Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 1607 system, Insider edition on a slow ring. Some days ago it was repeatedly failing KB3176934 with the same 0x800F0922. I didn't find out the root cause and how to prevent it. My purpose is to find other who has exactly this same problem and figure out a solution. If someone already has a solution - even better.

Looking at the CBS directory, back from 08/26/2016 when the KB3176934 was failing I see a 22GB (!) log file. It seems like that there was "some" deadlock:

seems like again the lack of this sid causes the rollback:

So maybe the key is the sid S-1-5-80-1448039036-2013904622-3830678473-3382385916-2632875139, but I cannot find anything about it with web searches.

System About

Downloaded the Anniversary Update (Windows10Upgrade28084.exe) but it presents an empty dialog only with an Exit button.

enter image description here

Maybe the problem is that this KB3176938 is always in the installed and restart needed phase, so I'm not able to install other things? Just guessing...

Trying to force install the KB3176938 after manually downloaded the CAB file.

Manually installing KB3176938 form a manually downloaded cabinet was not successful either. I was thinking maybe to start the install from safe mode, but the error comes really at the end of the install procedure, the computer restarted and again went to almost 100% progress. I feel like I'm in a 22-catch situation. First I'd like to stop the windows update from forcing this update.

See answer. After the repair with Windows10_InsiderPreview_Client_x64_en-us_14393.iso I got KB3176934 and a couple of more updates. Seems to work fine now. Looking back, maybe at om point I did (or the system offered?) the anniversary update? Maybe that's not a good idea for an Insider Win10.

Windows 10 pro 1607 14393.10 has ssh server built-in?

I see SSH Server Broker and SSH Server Proxy services running and can connect to the machine from LAN and WAN. I am not able to login with administrator account nor I was able to find any information about how it needs to be configured.

Anyone got any information?

How to prevent Windows 10 from restarting the computer after installing updates

This questions has been answered previously, e.g. here, but all the answers I've seen require using a dropdown in Settings> Update & Security> Advanced Options.

On my version of Windows 10 Pro, there is no such dropdown:

Windows update advanced options

How can I prevent automatic restarts?

Windows.old folder appeared after Windows 10 Anniversary Update

I found Windows.old folder (23 GB) on my system drive after recent major Windows 10 updates. I haven't recently installed a new operating system, I moved to Win 10 a year ago and I did a fresh install.
Can the folder be created after Windows updates? Can I safely delete to save disk space? I'm most worried about game saves and program configuration files.

How do I change the language of the Linux subsystem in Windows 10 (WSL)?

After installing Bash in Windows 10 I noted that it is using Swedish in the linux applications. My Windows 10 installation is in English.

I have tried to reinstall bash after changing the default input language to english using

lxrun /uninstall /full

lxrun /install

But it is still using swedish texts in the linux apps, e.g. in nano.

So how can I force the Linux subsystem to install with english language?

Cannot install extension in Edge

I am running the new Anniversary Update of Windows 10 and use the version of Microsoft Edge that comes with it.

Edge has a setting "Extensions" that leads you to the Windows Store to install extensions. After selecting Adblock and downloading it, Edge does not notify me that an extension was installed (like it did on the Anniversary Update preview on another machine).

Looking at the app/extension in the store again, it says that there was a problem with this app and re-installing it is recommended. It does not say anything about what kind of error happened. Re-installing does not help.

In the "Extensions" section of Edge no extension is listed.

Where is the C drive in the WSL? [duplicate]

This question already has an answer here:

Whenever I try to login to bash using the Windows Subsystem for Linux, I try to cd into C:\Users\, but all I get is directory not found.

Where is the C drive for the Windows Linux subsystem? Is it isolated?

How to install Windows 10 Anniversary Update on Windows 10 Enterprise edition

I have a laptop with Windows 10 Enterprise edition installed (64bit).

I haven't got the Windows 10 Anniversary Update from the normal Windows Update (I have clicked Check for updates). So I want to install it manually.

I have downloaded the the update from the Microsoft page. However when I run it, the Update Assistant says

Windows 10 will not run on this PC Operating System: Contact your system administrator to upgrade Windows Server or Enterprise editions

But I'm my own system administrator. I've installed Enterprise Edition from MSDN Subscriber downloads.

How do I update to the Anniversary Edition?

How do I kill the lockscreen after the Windows 10 anniversary update?

The Windows 10 "anniversary update" is coming out tomorrow and according to some reports the group policy to disable the lock screen is no longer effective on anything below the Enterprise edition. I'd like to know what options/workarounds are left to disable this nonsense on Pro editions.

Regards.

Verify Windows 10 Anniversary update ISO

I used the Media Creation Tool to create an ISO of the Windows 10 Anniversary update (or so I hope).

Is there any way of verifying the Windows version of the ISO?
