Linux - How to get the reason for wakeup?

Is it possible to get the reason of system wake-up (Wake-on-LAN, Power button, wake from USB) on Linux? I'm using Ubuntu, kernel Linux homeless 2.6.37-12-generic #26~lucid1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 5 21:52:06 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux

wake-up by the computer

some time ago(10 years back) I've read on PC Magazine that some mainboards have some settings which allow to a computer to open at a certain hour. I need to make my computer to wake me up in each morning. How can I do that ? What MB settings allow this feature?

ps: i will like to shout down the computer during the night(not sleep or hibernate mode). ATM I'm using windows xp and 7 on my computers.

Mac Book Pro wakes up in my backpack

This has happened to me twice: I press the power button on my Mac Book Pro, choose sleep, close it, unplug everything, confirm that is off (by pressing my ear to it) and put it in my bag. Some minutes later, the laptop wakes up by itself.

Both times I caught it in time. The second time it was so hot I couldn't touch some parts -- it refused to actually wake up, and the screen was blank. Restarting it worked though.

Any ideas what might be going on and/or how to prevent this?

More details: It's a Mac Book Pro unibody 15" from 2009.

Finding the cause why a laptop wakes itself from sleep

My new Windows 7 64bit laptop keeps waking up from sleep. I tried various things and still it wakes up:

• Disconnecting the mouse\keyboard
• Disconnecting it from the LAN
• Keeping it with the lid closed

How can I find the reason for its wakeup?

Windows 10 waking from sleep with unknown reason

I recently started experiencing an issue with my Windows 10 Pro installation. It wakes from hibernation at seemingly random times. I have done the following to try and troubleshoot the issue:

• Turn off wake timers
• Disable all peripherals from waking the system
• Unplug network cable (No WiFi)
• Try another power outlet

The computer still wakes at random times. When issuing the command

powercfg /lastwake

I get the following:

Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
    Wake Source Count - 0

I absolutely need Wake on Lan to work on the system, and it always has before. This issue only started after moving my computer to a different room.

Any help on how to resolve the issue would be appreciated.

How do I prevent Windows 7 laptop from waking up automatically?

About once or twice a week my laptop will wake up in the early hours of the morning (about 6ish) from sleep mode. This happens whether the AC power is connected or not. It will then turn itself off after a few minutes. The only way I can stop this happening is to shutdown the computer every night, but I would like to leave it in sleep mode if I can I don't have to wait ages for it to boot up in the morning.

I can't remember what days of the week it does this or if it's random, I've been shutting down windows every night for a while now. I have automatic defragment turned off and my virus scanner is only set to run at midday.

I know it's a windows 7 issue because it doesn't happen when I'm running linux. How do I find what's causing my laptop to wake and stop it from happening?

is it possible to wake up a Linux device at a specific time

I run Debian on an embedded board. I would like to suspend or hibernate the board say at 10 pm and wake it up at 7 am. There is no problem to suspend/hibernate the board by pmi action suspend/hibernate. But, I wonder if it is possible to schedule the board to wake up at a specific time (maybe by using cron or something else?). If it is the case, could you please explain the all necessary steps that how I can do it?

Please note that, it is possible to wake up an embedded board by using an external interrupt signal or building a simple circuit with a MCU like PIC, timer and relay to set when to wake up the board. But is is not what I am asking for. I would like to learn if there is any method on Linux to perform the wake up operation. The board has a WiFi connection and not possible to attach another cable apart from the power cable (please do not write about wake-on-lan).

Windows 8 waking issues - "Maintenance Configurator" task cannot be changed or disabled

I recently upgraded to Windows 8 x64 (from Windows 7 x64). I had all the wake from sleep tasks disabled in Windows 7.

In the Windows 8 Task Scheduler, Task Scheduler Library>>Microsoft>>Windows>>Maintenance Configurator is a Microsoft scheduled task that by default runs at 1 AM every day.

I don't want the task disabled but I do want to changed it so my computer doesn't wake me up at 1 AM every night. I've tried running as admin and Task Scheduler still says I cannot change it. Suggestions?

Wakeup PC upon mouse click but not mouse move

Can I differentiate between waking the Windows OS (Windows 7 and/or 8) from a mouse click vs mouse move? I only want the system to wake upon a click on the mouse but not when I move the mouse. I assume this is not a functionality considered in the Power Management options but maybe something can be done in the Registry? Any ideas?

Mac OS X — do not wake up disk after computer wake up

I have 2 disks in MBP: SSD and regular HDD. I keep only data files on HDD and do not need them often. The problem: even if I eject the HDD drive from Finder or Disk Utility, when macbook is awaken from sleep, OS automatically wakes up HDD. Is it possible to prevent it?

Addition: Ideally it would be cool to make OS not to spin up even mounted drive.

Computer wakes up from hibernation at exctly 3:40am every day

I'm getting tired of waking up to my computer being turned on, and event log shows that it's waking up everyday at 3:40am and most times won't go back to sleep after the determined 30 minutes (maybe from being in the lock screen?). There are no devices armed for wake, activation timers are disabled and all wake options disabled in the BIOS and energy star 4.0c is enabled (was disabled before but no difference).

Computer turns itself on after any off mode

Whenever I shut down my computer, or put it in sleep/hybernate, it turns on after two seconds. It doesn't post, it just powers on and then idles. To actually turn it off, I switch off the psu. The problem is now, whenever I switch the psu on and try to boot, it doesn't always turn on. It takes a good amount of flicking the psu switch on and off before the motherboard lights up.

So far I've determined the things its not:

• its not caused by the mouse or network waking up the computer. I've been able to go into hybernate for the past year. And all "wake on X" settings in the bios are diabled.
• its not a scheduled task waking up the computer at a given hour, it occurs every single time
• its not due to an upgrade or new installation, since I haven't done either in a very long time

I'm sure its a hardware issue. So I'd like to know, is my psu dead, or the motherboard? The psu is an Antec Earthwatts 600w, the motherboard is an Asus P5Q-E, both one year old.

My PC wakes up from sleep randomly.

I disabled Hibernation after Sleep.

I am using Asus N53SV with Windows 7 64 bit.

Power Options > Sleep > Allow wake timers are disabled.

It doesn't wake up from Hibernation.

My searches yielded "Look for powercfg lastwake", "Disable wake timers" but they didn't help me.

Which is normal since keyboard should wake up when pressed. The PC wakes up even when the lid is closed, so keyboard is not pressed.

Wake timers don't wake computer from sleep mode

I'm got a custom built PC running 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. So far everything works great except for one thing: it will not wake up from sleep mode for a wake timer or scheduled task.

Sleep mode itself works great. If it's sleeping, it wakes successfully when I press the power button, mash the keyboard, wiggle the mouse, or send a WOL packet. The only problem is wake timers. I even tried the program WakeupOnStandBy but it looks like that uses wake timers, so it doesn't do anything for me either.

And yes, wake timers are enabled:

Any ideas on how to fix the problem, or troubleshoot it? I'd imagine that there would be a log somewhere telling me exactly why the wake timers are having trouble, but if there is I haven't found it.

Preventing laptop wake up when opening the lid on linux

My laptop is broken and the lid does not lock. So I want it not to wake up when the lid is open. I use ubuntu, but gnome-power-preferences does not have any option like that (only to close the lid).

Is there any way to do this? I'm afraid next time it opens on the case it will get burned.
