Spring permission error Ubuntu 14.04

I'm trying to set up a Ubuntu 14.04 box as a development environment for rails 4.2.

When I try to run rails c, I get the following error:

fileutils.rb:252:in `mkdir': Permission denied @ dir_s_mkdir - /run/user/1000/spring (Errno::EACCES)

This is caused because /run/user/1000 is owned by user tyler and I am trying to execute the commands as user deployer. I got there by logging into the system as tyler then su - deployer.

If I log into the system as deployer, I can execute rails c without issue and it creates a separate /run/user/1001 directory owned by deployer.

I followed docker instructions to install and verify the docker installation (from http://docs.docker.com/linux/step_one/).

I tried on 2 Ubuntu 14.04 machines and on both I got following error when starting docker daemon:

Command `libreoffice --headless --convert-to pdf test.docx --outdir /pdf` is not working

I have to wait for long after using this LibreOffice command which is intended to convert DOCX into PDF:

libreoffice --headless --convert-to pdf test.docx --outdir /pdf

But I'm getting no response and no error. No file is converted. It looks like terminal is hanging.

So, is there is any way to track the error?

docker command not found even though installed with apt-get

Adding this for reference for others because it would have saved me 10 minutes if such an answer existed.

I tried installing Docker using ubuntu 14.0LTS virtualbox

sudo apt get install docker

However, when I try running docker it gives me the following error

The program 'docker' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install docker

Why is ubuntu not seeing docker?

Docker build "Could not resolve 'archive.ubuntu.com'" apt-get fails to install anything

I've been trying to run Docker build on various files which previously worked before, which are now no longer working.

As soon as the Docker file included any line that was to install software it would fail with a message saying that the package was not found.

RUN apt-get -y install supervisor nodejs npm

The common message which showed up in the logs was

Could not resolve 'archive.ubuntu.com'

Any idea why any software will not install?

Ugrade tmux from 1.8 to 1.9 on Ubuntu 14.04

I was just adding tmux plugins to my .tmux.conf file to find out that one of the plugins (tmux-copycat I think) requires tmux 1.9. When I start tmux I get the message `Error: Tmux version unsupported. Please install tmux version 1.9 or greater!".

So, what is the best way to upgrade tmux 1.8 to 1.9 on Ubuntu 14.04?

How to install Ruby 2.1.4 on Ubuntu 14.04

I dont know how to install the latest Ruby on Ubuntu.

First I installed the default Ruby 1.9.3, using

sudo apt-get install ruby

Then I tried to install the 2.0 version using

sudo apt-get install ruby2.0

My version of Ruby is still "ruby 1.9.3p484 (2013-11-22 revision 43786) [x86_64-linux])"

What should I do?

sudo service mongodb restart gives "unrecognized service error" in ubuntu 14.0.4

I just installed mongoDB on ubuntu 14.0.4. I tried to start the shell but I'm getting a connection refused error.

me@medev:/etc/init.d$ mongo
MongoDB shell version: 2.6.5
connecting to: test
2014-11-10T15:06:28.084-0500 warning: Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1:27017, reason: errno:111 Connection refused

exception: connect failed

So I decided to try to restart the service but that's failing too. I get the following error message:

me@medev:/etc/init.d$ sudo service mongodb restart
mongodb: unrecognized service
me@medev:/etc/init.d$

This is what I have in my /var/log/mongodb/mongod.log - http://pastebin.com/MrHt8tce

what i've tried so far:

I found another post here: can't start mongodb as sudo which made a comment about remove the mongo lock file.

I deleted the lock file and then retried my command but it still fails as you can see below:

me@medev:/var/lib/mongodb$ sudo rm mongod.lock
me@medev:/var/lib/mongodb$ ls
journal local.0 local.ns _tmp

me@medev:/var/lib/mongodb$ sudo service mongodb start
mongodb: unrecognized service

But I can start it using /etc/init.d as you can see below:

me@medev:/var/lib/mongodb$ sudo /etc/init.d/mongod start
Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service mongod start

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start mongod
mongod start/running, process 27469
me@medev:/var/lib/mongodb$ ls
journal local.0 local.ns mongod.lock

me@medev:/var/lib/mongodb$ mongo
MongoDB shell version: 2.6.5
connecting to: test
> db
test
>

Any ideas on why I can't start it using the service command would be appreciated. From what I've read, i should be using sudo service mongodb

yo angular generates files in wrong path ( home directory )

yo angular generates the files in my home directory and I don't know why.

I did the following:

ppa for node

curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup | sudo bash -

then install node

sudo apt-get install -y nodejs

create a symlink

sudo ln -s "$(which nodejs)" /usr/bin/node

install yeoman

sudo npm install -g yo
sudo npm install -g generator-angular

next steps from the instruction from https://github.com/yeoman/generator-angular

mkdir my-new-project && cd $_

now I run

yo angular test1

now all the files will be created in my home directory instead of the my-new-project directory where I am currently. What did I wrong?

node -v: v0.10.36

npm -v: 2.5.1

Update1: new npm version

Solution:

yo angular looks for .yo-rc.json file in the current directory, if the file isnt there it tries to find it in the home dir. To solve this:

look for a hidden .yo-rc.json file in the home directory and delete it. Or create an empty .yo-rc.json file in the directory you want to use.
