I have Windows, Mac, and Linux computers; but I am only able to connect to some of my company's websites through the Windows and Mac machines at the moment because they are the only ones with RSA SecurID software tokens. I'm curious: is it possible to set up a SecurID software token to work on a Linux system (in my case, Ubuntu)?

I want to make gnome-terminal transparent. To do this I have to select option Transparent background
and move the slider under Background
tab from the menu - Edit -> Profile Preferences
. It becomes transparent but only the desktop wallpaper is shown in the background.
But I want to see actual open applications or windows on the background. How do I do this? (Preferably in Ubuntu 11.10)

I have installed centos on my /dev/sda9.
There is windows 7 on my first partition.
Now I try to install ubuntu on /dev/sda11
While installing,it shows the following error.
migration-assistant needs to mount a partition,but cannot do so because the following mount point could not be mounted:
/dev/sda9
please close any application using this mount points.
would you like migration-assistant to try to unmount these partition again?
How do I address this error?

After install some packages, I don't have sound! I installed Rosegarden, VMPK (piano software), Drumstick Virtual Piano and TiMidity. At the beginning, all works fine, but when I reset my PC, I don't listen anything.
I would like how can I reinstall Alsa. I want to have it completely new, all the settings by default, for example when Ubuntu is installed.

In Ubuntu 11.10, is there any reason why I can only open one folder at a time via the GUI?
I click home folder, navigate to the folder I want to go to, then I hit home folder again to bring up another home folder and nothing opens. I'm so confused about the laptops I can do this on. I can do this on Work PC's, but not on this PC however.

I have HP 620 WT162EA laptop (64bit processor and 2gb ddr3 ram memory). Based on your experience, which version of ubuntu I shall install: 32bit or 64bit?
From what I already read here, people suggest 64bit version if there is more than 4gb of ram memory, but in terms of performance ll it work better than 32bit on my laptop? Vice versa?
I'm complete newbie in this field and I just came here to ask a question :)
Thanks!

I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 and try to connect to a Bluetooth device from the command line but I always need to enter the PIN in a graphical dialog box. The commands I use:
root@ubuntu:~# hcitool scan
Scanning ...
00:00:00:00:00:00 device
root@ubuntu:~# rfcomm connect 0 00:00:00:00:00:00 1
And after this, the enter PIN dialog appears.
Is there any way to keep the interaction in the command line? In my environment it is not allowed to use GUIs or require the user to enter PINs. Btw, the PIN is always the same but the MAC will change from time to time.

I know a lot of people are having problems similar to this one, but I don't think this is a duplicate. My situation is a bit different and none of the solutions that are working for other people have worked for me.
I have two hard drives, one with just one primary partition (sdb) and one with several partitions (sda). My fdisk -l
looks like this:
Disk /dev/sdb: 750.2 GB, 750156374016 bytes
16 heads, 63 sectors/track, 1453521 cylinders, total 1465149168 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x316f8b1c

Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

I have Ubuntu 11.10 installed on sda5 and windows 7 installed on sdb1 (I'm not sure what's on the primary partition /dev/sda1 -- some old operating system I don't care about). I installed Windows first, then installed Ubuntu. I'm using grub
as my boot loader, and I'm able to boot to Ubuntu (and using it now) but at first update-grub2
didn't even see Windows 7. After searching online, I found a common solution to this was to create an /etc/grub.d/11_Windows
init script containing:
#! /bin/sh -e
echo Adding Windows >&2
cat << EOF
menuentry "Windows 7″ {
set root=(hd1,1)
chainloader +1
}
Here I set root to (hd1,1)
to match sdb1. This added Windows 7
to the grub menu, but if you select it, it just shows a blank screen and hangs (it does not boot into Windows 7). I've tried a number of solutions given to people having similar (but not identical) problems as mine and can't get anything to work.
Can anyone help me?
Here is the output of Boot Info Script:

This seemed to happen out of the blue.
I have been using Opera for years.
I can't find anywhere in Gmail to change the default font that is used in Opera.
Ubuntu is Version 11
Opera is version 11.6
In Firefox the font is normal size.
I have tried playing around with both all the browser setting I can find plus Ubuntu system settings (I had seen some mentions of Opera using the system default font sometimes) but no success so far.
Really bumming as I have been using Opera for two years and if I can't resolve it I will not be able to use it.
I can switch to Firefox but I don't want to.

I already have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.10 installed on my laptop, and would like to add Windows 8 Consumer Preview to that list. Here's some information which may be relevant to this question:
- The laptop only has one hard drive.
- The hard drive has plenty of space to accommodate all 3 OSes
- The GRUB menu currently controls which OS boots up.
- When I originally decided to dual boot, I already had Windows 7 installed and I re-partitioned my hard drive and installed Ubuntu on the new partition.
What would be the correct way to install Windows 8 without screwing up Windows 7 and Ubuntu?

I would like to recover Linux terminal command history behaviour after updating from Ubuntu 10.04 to 11.10.
I lost the great terminal feature of accessing recent commands through the up and down arrow keys, or the command history is not being saved anymore.
Can somebody guide how to recover that behaviour?

I use ubuntu 11.10 and recently switched to terminator for my terminal. I am happy with it with one exception, I cannot figure out how to scroll up using the keyboard. I used to use gnome-terminal and would ctrl+shift+{arrowup || pageup} but cannot find a keybinding for scrolling in terminator.

When I try to colorize the bash
prompt like this:
export PS1="\e[0;31m[\u@\h \W]\$ \e[m "
it breaks the carriage return (instead of going to a new line when line is full, it starts in the same line and erases the input text).
If I remove the color sequence it works fine.
I use Ubuntu 11.10 and terminal (guake has the same bug too).

Windows 7 was pre-installed on my machine. Ubuntu 11.10 doesn't boot after I installed it. Once Ubuntu finished its installation, I restarted.
After that, it just boots straight to Windows 7, no sign on Ubuntu at all.
