tp-link interview questions

A few days ago I started having strange problems with my internet connection. It disconnected at seemingly random times, and I had to restart my router to bring it back up. I also noticed that it didn't crash when I pulled the UTP cable from the PC I use the most(please note that this doesn't mean I'm certain it can't crash when that PC was disconnected, it just seemed to happen more when it wasn't). I tried switch UTP cable to no success.
I thought it was some kind of problem with my router, so I connected another one and now I have a similar, but maybe even stranger problem: it doesn't totally disconnect me from the internet(only happened once so far, so might be a coincidence) but I do lose some packets every minute or so(in fact, I'm beginning to think it happens EXACTLY every minute, especially if I believe my "ping -t google.com"). When I keep testing on pingtest.net a few times in a row, at like 1/5th of the tries it has packet loss, that packet loss is ALWAYS exactly 12 packets out of 250(5%).
I also tested my network speed using speedtest.net and Steam downloads, it's a quite consistent 90-100mbit down and 60-90mbit upspeed, which is quite normal.
Does anyone know what could cause this problem? The consistency of it baffles me.
Some specs of my PC/Network:
- Router: TP-Link TL-WR1043ND
- Network Card: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
- OS: Windows 8 Pro

I have several Laptops and other devices, all using my Wireless Router (Sky Digital Netgear). To extend the range to the back of the house, I purchased a TP-Link TL-WA500G Range extender, configured just as a pure repeater, which picks up the signal from the Netgear Router. The Netgear Router does the DHCP, handing out the IP addresses.
This all works a treat with several different laptops and my iPhone4S, but when my son tries to use his XBox360, Sony Playstation3 or the Nintendo Wii, those devices fail to acquire an IP address. They just sit there waiting for the IP config. This also happens with my wife's HTC desire ONE Android phone. My son says that, when his HTC Desire C won't get an IP address, he just unplugs the AP briefly - the phone will connect and he puts the AP back on.
Once he is connected to the Router, the AP won't disturb function.
The game consoles don't seem to work like that. They stop working when the AP is reconnected.
I had my son try to configure permanent IP addresses, and he said that it did not work either, though I have to confirm that, as I did not see that for myself.
Has anybody seen this before? I have searched the Net and have not found any similar problems anywhere. I wonder if there is a setting somewhere that would fix this.

I'm planning to buy a TP-LINK TD-W8961ND modem+router and two 8dBi TP-Link TL-ANT2408CL antennas. I'm going to attach the two 8dBi antennas into the modem, because this modem has two external connectors.
- How much coverage will I get for this configuration in meters (if the antennas have no interference)?
- Since I'm adding two 8dBi antennas will I get 16dBi antenna gain?

I'm trying to create my own wireless router using a Raspberry Pi 2 and a TP-Link WN722N. I have OpenWRT running off the MicroSD card and I have installed LuCI, but I need to install the wireless card drivers via SSH. I've tried following the directions here:
OpenWrt → General Discussion → how to enable WN722N (AR9271) wifi usb on MR3020 ?
While the USB card is inserted, I install the drivers, then create the wireless interface:
# install drivers
opkg install kmod-ath9k-htc
# create wireless wan interface
uci set network.wwan=interface
uci set network.wwan.proto=dhcp
uci set network.wwan.hostname="$STATION"
uci commit network
But when I attempt to enable the wifi interface, UCI gives me an Entry not found error. Every piece of advice I've read is to check /etc/config/wireless
for the adapter's settings, but this file does not exist. This probably means that the adapter is not being recognized, but I am able to do this:
root@OpenWrt:~# wifi detect
config wifi-device radio0
option type mac80211
option channel 11
option hwmode 11g
option path 'platform/bcm2708_usb/usb1/1-1/1-1.5/1-1.5:1.0'
option htmode HT20
# REMOVE THIS LINE TO ENABLE WIFI:
option disabled 1
config wifi-iface
option device radio0
option network lan
option mode ap
option ssid OpenWrt
option encryption none
root@OpenWrt:~# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0cf3:9271 Atheros Communications, Inc. AR9271 802.11n
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp. SMSC9512/9514 Fast Ethernet Adapter
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9514 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
So clearly, the RPi is seeing the USB wireless adapter but it is not generating an /etc/config/wireless
file. What am I doing wrong?
Any help appreciated, thanks!

Where can I find and install AR9271 driver for latest NetBSD? The target machine does not have internet access and I need to setup the wifi-dongle first.
Found only this https://www.daemon-systems.org/man/athn.4.html
UPD: wpa_supplicant already written, but I didn't see my device.
When I'm plugging wifi-dongle, it's shown as
ugen0 at uhub4 port 8
ugen0: Mediatek 802.11 n WLAN, rev 2.01/00, addr 2
ifconfig
shows only re0
and lo0
interfaces.
UPD: I saw on some linux forums that's dongle uses Atheros chip, but checked in Windows and see Ralink. ral
driver also integrated in NetBSD, but situation doesn't changes - I see no ra~
device in dmesg.boot.

I have this TP-Link TL-WR840N which claims to be a b/g/n 300Mbps wifi router connected to Wimax modem and to PC using 1 Gigabit port. when send or recieve files from other devices (android smartphones, tablets (all b/g/n)) it gives me a terrible speed of max 1 mb/s. no mater how (ftp, smb or http). Now do you think it's normal?? because if it is not i'm gonna have to take it to service center.
What do you think?

I disabled DHCP on TP-LINK TL-WR842ND and connect it LAN to LAN to my base router in order to set it as wireless access point for wireless devices.
TP-LINK received an IP address from base router. Let's say this IP address is 10.0.0.20.
I would like to access web management GUI of TP-LINK so I typed 10.0.0.20 to my web browser hoping that it will show me TP-LINK page.
But unfortunately I can't access management web page and I don't know how.
Why I can't access it? It has IP address and works as access point correctly.

I have upgraded to OpenWrt (just upgraded to Chaos Calmer 15.0 on a tp-link 1043nd ) but I cannot find the wifi settings in Luci (LuCI (git-15.248.30277-3836b45) ). The wireless works fine, several computers are connected. But under 'Associated Stations' on status page it says 'No information available'.
How can I make the wireless settings visible in the web interface again?

How to use broadband internet connection of one computer with another computer
I'm using a hub to connect them. I get online only on one comp, while the 2nd pc can't connect(it says'...invalid in this domain'). But local sites are running in both pc at the same time. Please help me surf internet at the same time in both machines, independently. My adsl modem is TP-link 8817. some said it has no function such as 'dual access mode, etc...'. OS - XP SP3.

I have a TP-LINK modem. My web browsing/surfing speed decreases when I'm transferring files between other computers which are connected to this modem, and when a torrent client is downloading from 20+ seeds. I want to give the HTTP connections (port 80) the highest priority possible, so that my connection wouldn't delay when non-HTTP connections are active.
The interface of the modem related to QoS settings are as below:

(See a larger image.)
The settings in the image are for "Rule index #1" (notice the "rule index" line in the image). I can define many independent rules for different applications/ports/IPs. The solution may be prioritizing the HTTP port (80) connections, or two separate rules for delaying torrent and file transfer connections.
I thought that it is related with QoS settings, so I posted a screen shot of that part of the modem interface. If it was related to another setting, please leave a comment and I will edit my post supplying the information you asked for.
Information about my environment:
Modem product ID: TP-LINK TD-8901G
Modem firmware version: 3.0.1 Build 100901 Rel.23594
Modem hardware version: 3.1
My OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
My physical port: Enet1 (Eternet #1)
My local IP: 192.168.1.2
My torrent port: 5002
IP of the computer I'm transferring files between: 192.168.1.4
Physical port of the computer I'm transferring files between: Enet 2 (Eternet #2)

I moved recently and my TP-Link TL-WR841ND v7 with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (11/21/10) std (SVN revision 15778) started to work odd.
Before:
Router was conneted to another (ISP's) router/modem. Internet connection 50 Mbps, worked as expected. (40+ Mbps by WiFi, 49+ Mbps by ethernet.)
Now:
TP-Link router is connected to different router/modem (newer model), same ISP. Internet connection 120 Mbps. With direct connection to ISP's router by RJ-45 cable internet speed is ca. 85/10 Mbps, ping 8 ms
But when I connect through TP-Link speed falls dramatically - it never excels 10 Mbps, ping is unchanged. There is no difference if I use RJ-45 (cat6) oraz WiFi (NG-Mixed, WPA2)
I tried:
- Changing WiFi broadcast channel.
- Using different ethernet ports in TP-Link and other RJ-45 cable between TP-Link <-> PC.
- Setting TP-Link to connect using DHCP.
- Cloning PC's ethernet MAC adress.
- Restoring Factory Defaults.
No luck. Any ideas?
Regards,
Peter

I have a TP-LINK
ADSL2+ Modem and want to know if there is a way to split the bandwidth allocation of WiFi connections and LAN connection with the ratio that I want?
e.g. 1/4 of bandwidth for WiFi and the rest for LAN
OS: Windows 7
Model: TD-W8901G
Edit: According to
Abhioxic
's suggestion I found QoS on 192.168.1.1 and it looks like below. I think I'm closer now, but what next?

I have installed this firmware since I thought it'll be faster.
Sometimes it's just slower than it was, but for example now, even GMail fails to work.
Is it possible to recover/reinstall the original firmware? I have read steps about openwrt but not about DD-WRT. Should I just install openwrt? What to do? :-/
(Yes I know SU is about computers. HOWEVER, DD-WRT/openwrt/TR1043ND and anything in this question are... already like PCs. Simple firmware/linux wrangling. So I !think! that the question is okay for this site. If not, just delete/close it. Thank you.)

If I put my Windows 8 computer into sleep mode, there is no network connection after I resume the session. If I replug my internet stick into the computer, it works (but stops if I sleep again).
What I do get is that "shutting down" Windows 8 on a desktop, by default, doesn't actually shut it down, but hibernates it (evident by the boot timestamp being a few weeks in the past and no POST
beep). For example, Speccy reports that my last boot was on April 2, 2013 5:51:49 AM PDT, but today is clearly April 7, 2013.
My network stick is a TP-LINK TL-WN722N
. The drivers provided with the CD and on their website don't support Windows 8, but plugging in through Ethernet (REALLY long coax (100ft) cable for router) downloaded the chipset's driver through Windows Update allowing it to work.
Here are some of the specs for my setup (Speccy report):
- Operating System: Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
- Network Stick: TP-LINK TL-WN722N
- Router: Cisco Valet M20
Windows Update (where it downloaded the driver from in the first place) says that I'm up to date, sans hidden "updates" (Bing toolbar). I doubt this is my router's fault, but I'm not denying the possibility. What could be causing this?
