I just switched to Windows 10 on my ASUS N550JV and installed related drivers from the support page of ASUS. The touchpad works great, but for some reason the direction of scrolling on touchpad is inverted. I couldn't figure out how to change the direction of the scroll on touch pad, how can I do it?

I have recently switched to Mac, and the only thing I miss from my old notebook is the ability to middle-mousebutton-click by clicking both mousebuttons simultaneously.
This is a crucial feature when browsing the net as it opens links in a background tab. The best solution I have found by now is holding down Command-Shift and clicking, but this is often a bit hard to do (yeah, I surf on the couch (hey, it's a LAPtop after all) and often sit in strange positions)
Any tips on how to do this on the otherwise lovely and adorable trackpad?

I have Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat installed. The problem is that the tap to click feature on my touchpad is too sensitive in ubuntu. It works fine with windows. I randomly end up clicking things while moving the mouse. Its very irritating. Any solutions ? I have a HP Probook 4410s laptop.

My original laptop adapter broke down, so I've bought a new one. It's a no-brand adapter from a Dutch internet shop.
The power of the new adapter is slightly more than the old adapter, but in my opinion that shouldn't be a problem.
The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L40-15B. When the old adapter broke down due to short circuit, this laptop was connected.
When the adapter is unplugged, the touchpad works correctly and smoothly. But as soon as it is connected, the cursor moves jumpy and responds badly.
Does anyone know where this problem comes from, and if there's a solution?

I have an ASUS G75VW laptop with a Synaptic touchpad (/trackpad). When I move my finger from one edge towards the middle (the swipe), Windows 8 will bring up different stuff.
This is a problem because the area where I can actually move the mouse with my finger is too small (or, I mostly use the top left of the touchpad). So I often end up doing a swipe and bringing up some menu, or to do the swipe so slow that no menu is appearing but the mouse pointer is also not moving when I move my finger. Quite annoying.
When swiping from left edge it earlier swapped apps like crazy. I disabled that, so now it only brings up the same menu as pressing win+tab (or some times the charms bar, I never know which). I could change that by:
Win+I → Change PC settings → General → When I swipe from the left edge, switch directly to my most recent app.
I've tried Mouse settings in Control Panel, driver settings for my touchpad and searching for swipe and gestures on my computer (which was what led me to the setting above) with no luck.
How can I disable the swipe gestures, or change what they do?

On my laptop, the touchpad drivers for it allowed me to emulate middle click by clicking both the left and right mouse buttons at the same time. I'd like to have the same feature on with my netbook's touchpad. How might I go about doing this?

My laptop (a Sony Vaio on Windows 8) disables my touchpad when I "type". This means actually typing, or just holding down a key like say, W, A, S or D. The touchpad stays disabled for a short period (<1s), after releasing all keys. Naturally, I want to turn this feature off.
The touchpad uses a Synaptics driver, but I can't find a setting anywhere to enable the touchpad when typing.
I found values that allude to this functionality in the registry (e.g. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2\ZoneManager\TPTyping - Enabled), but their value is always 0, so I reckon it must be coming from somewhere else.
I've tried reducing the touchpad's sensitivity, as I read somewhere that there that certain values might secretly activate the "palm detection" functionality, which in turn secretly activates the "disable then you type" functionality, but to no avail. (Yes, I already went quite deep into the rabbit hole.)
Edit 14-11-12: I've updated the Synaptics driver using the one from the Synaptics site, but I still don't have a setting to enable the touchpad whilst typing. (Neither do I have the "PalmCheck" settings.)
Edit 27-11-12: I've gone back to the original driver, as the generic one had too many issues for my liking. This version doesn't have PalmCheck either, but like the generic one, it does have something called "SmartSense". Apart from the name, it looks like PalmCheck. Turning it off however, did not solve the problem.

I am experiencing strange problem with using my touchpad and keyboard simultaneously under Windows 7.
I have HP tx2550ew (convertible tablet), and when I hold some key under Windows 7 (eg. space, a, s etc.), the touchpad seems to be blocking.
I spotted this while playing Counter Strike. I am not playing much games, and I haven't been playing CS since January, so I am not sure when it started behaving like that. I have tested it also outside the game - when I hold space (eg. when on some web page and entering text into input field) or some letter key, the cursor is not able to move.
The problem seems to not be occuring when I hold Shift, Ctrl nor Alt.
Did any of you experience similar problem? Do you know what may have caused this? Is there any way I could check what is wrong with my laptop?
I have been looking for a solution, but it seems I haven't been looking in right places. This is why I ask question here.
Ps. I am unable to test whether this is touchpad-specific, because I have no mouse at my disposal at the moment (got used to touchpad so much I even find it more efficient and haven't been using a mouse with my laptop for months).

I have a laptop (a Samsung Series 9) with a Synaptics trackpad, and I have Windows XP on it.
One of the nice features of this trackpad is that it allows you to scroll by placing two fingers on the trackpad and then dragging them up or down.
But the really annoying thing is this: Instead of acting like any other scroll wheel in existence and sending scroll wheel events to Windows, for some reason the Synaptics trackpad has special logic for scrolling. It changes the mouse cursor to a drawing of a scrollbar, and then scrolls the window itself using a seemingly proprietary mechanism.
The problem with that is that this scrolling doesn't work on all apps. For example, it doesn't work on GTK-based apps, which I use a lot.
I really have no idea why the Synaptics developers chose to reinvent wheel-scrolling, at the expense of their users...
Anyway, is there a way to make my trackpad send standard scrollwheel events, so it'll work in all apps?

I am so frustrated with the trackpad behavior in OS X. If you turn on "click to drag" with "drag lock" OFF there is still a delay where the mouse is "locked" in drag mode. That is, if I double click and hold to drag a window or slider, I have to wait half a second to let go of whatever I'm dragging.
I understand this is useful to some people, but it really annoys me and I cannot believe there is no way to turn off, or shorten the delay.
Is there anything that can be written to the trackpad plist to alter this?

i bought a new hp pavillion dv6 series laptop. the laptop itself is fine but it has the new hp touchpad mouse which i absolutely hate. its such a stupid problem to have with a computer. the left and right mouse buttons are, themselves, part of of the touchpad, meaning that if i tap the buttons without actually pressing them down, it registers the same way as the mouse pad (the cursor moves, tap to click activates, etc.) .
This is a major annoyance because it prevents you from operating the mouse pad with anything more than a single finger; if for example I use my right hand index finger to move the cursor using the touch pad and rest my left hand index finger on the left mouse button for more efficient mouse-ing, the mouse will react as if im trying to use 2 fingers to move it and it will either just sit there or will spaz out. the only way this works is if i keep the finger that is resting on the mouse button absolutely still, which is very difficult and, therefore, very annoying.
Also, even if i do abide by the arbitrary new decree of single-finger mousepad operation, i still have a problem because when i press down on the left or right click buttons, the mouse moves slightly, what with the buttons also being part of the touch pad and all. this would not be that hard to avoid except that they decided to also make the buttons much harder to press down. now whenever i go to click something, i press hard on the mouse button, causing my finger to slightly move or roll or flatten out a bit, causing the cursor to move slightly, and causing me to click on something different.
what i would like to know is if there is anyway that i can disable the touch pad on the buttons. i have gone through all of the settings under the synaptics menus but i cannot find anything about this. did i miss something in one of the menus? if not, then are there any updated drivers that allow for toggling of this function?

This is the first computer I have ever bought and I couldn't bring it home without a mouse of its own. I'm trying to disable the touchpad but the only option I find is by uninstalling the drivers, which I think is a bit drastic, the buttons for activation and deactivation are disabled (I'm using windows 7 starter).
Do you have any idea of how to disable the touch pad when an external mouse is hooked up?

What is the easiest way to disable the touch pad on a laptop?
I have a laptop which lacks a means to turn off the touchpad with a simple Function key sequence. I would like to disable the touchpad so that it stops detecting movement when I am typing. This is quite an annoyance as it sometimes results in deletions of sections of a sentence I am typing. Right now I have a thick piece of paper over the top to decrease the sensitivity.
Any other suggestions on how to do this?

When I scroll along the page or some scrollbox with two fingers on MacBook Pro touchpad, and it can be no longer scrolled to the left, Firefox decides I want to go back in history.
What can I do to disable history navigation using two-finger swipe in Firefox 17? I'm happy with using Backspace for going backwards, and wiping out all the text I was writing somewhere in some forms when I accidentally scroll more than I'm allowed is really frustrating.

On Windows 8.1, I tried to install the latest Synaptics Touchpad Driver v17.0.19 and it failed for some unknown reasons. Turns out it's problem with Synaptics, not Windows. Synaptics did not "Sign" the files inside the installation properly, and so Windows doesn't allow the installation. See below for lots of solutions.
