How do I change Firefox bookmark toolbar icons?

My Firefox bookmark toolbar items change icons every now and then for apparently no reason, especially if a site is down. I get the DNS site's icons all over, on another case I have the Facebook icon on a TOTALLY irrelevant bookmark, so the question is: How can I change the icons on my bookmarks in the bookmark toolbar?

How to stop OpenOffice/LibreOffice from popping up toolbars when I click on stuff

When I import a picture or a chart into my document and click on it, LibreOffice spawns a toolbar, shifts the whole screen around for a second, and then allows me to move stuff again. It gets very annoying when you need to be constantly moving an image or a table around.

Is there anyway to tell LibreOffice to just sit tight and trust me to look for the toolbar when I actually need it?

Custom macro buttons without writing code?

I just upgraded from Word 2003 to Word 2010. I'm mostly OK with the Ribbon, except that I've spent years maintaining and enlarging several custom toolbars full of buttons for extremely specialized macros I've recorded for my work. They were simple enough to record without editing, but invaluable because they saved so much time.

The macros themselves showed up in the 2010 macro list without my having to do anything, but they're not worth having without the ability to run them easily, and there are too many to assign to keystrokes.

I was able to assign most of them to a custom ribbon tab plus a few to the Quick Access Tab, but all of these buttons are identical unless I hover over them long enough for a tooltip to display to tell you which macro it is. Microsoft provides a few alternate button images to choose from, but they're random pictures that have no relationship to what the macros do.

In 2003 and previous versions, I was able to use the Button Editor to make my own meaningful button images, or even to choose "no image" and give it a very short name, like a letter or two, that would then show up as an "image" on the button. As a hypothetical example, to change entire documents to the Verdana font at 10pt, I could record the macro, then choose "no image" and name it V10. This would instantly get me a button "V10" on my custom toolbar.

It was so useful, quick and perfect that naturally it seems to have vanished from the new Word. Or at least, I can't find how to do it. I've seen a couple of how-to's purporting to show how to do it, but they're all about editing XML and/or VBA code. I have no problem with saying I'm not up to this; I tried to follow one of these guides and couldn't understand the instructions well enough to carry them out.

Is there a way to use my own buttons, without writing code from scratch? I can live without my nice toolbars if I must, but not having the buttons is seriously slowing down my accustomed work pace.

Where is the Toolbar in OS X Lion?

since the Lion update, every toolbar is missing.

For example:

  • Word 2011
  • Adium
  • Finder

In Snow Leopard it was possible to click on an little button in right up corner. But it's not visible anymore.

In Word 2011, I can make it visible with the CMD+ALT+T shortcurt. But the Button is already missing in every program.

Can't get rid of Ask Toolbar in Windows 8

I have just installed Windows 8 and some software. I accidentally installed Ask Toolbar, and now it has a toolbar with Chrome. I can't see it in the Program & Feature, and the Extension List of Google Chrome doesn't have it too. I also installed Your Uninstaller, and there is no Ask Toolbar item in its list too.

Can anyone please help me get rid of this annoying toolbar?

Shortcut or button to toggle space or tab as subsequent indentation character in Notepad++?

I would like to have either a keyboard shortcut or a toolbar button that toggles if I use tabs (ie tab for indentation) or make notepad++ use spaces instead.

It would be a nice extra if a toolbar button could be added to toggle showing whitespace characters on/off, but no new lines.

Is this possible?

Firefox - How to reduce spacing between icons on the Navigation Bar

I am using Firefox 24.0 on Windows 8.1 64-bit (RTM from MSDN) and have a few extensions installed which add buttons to the navigation bar.

For some reason there is a large amount of wasted space between the icons:

In some cases this is even worse when the icon has a drop down:

Is there any way to reduce this spacing?

hide extensions from chrome without pushing to chrome bar

Ok, so I have a few chrome extensions that don't need me to interact with them (Enhanced Steam). So I wanted to hide it, but for some reason it just gets moved to the top of the chrome menu (3 lines) and this looks ugly and is annoying.

I am pretty sure that I used to be able to just hide the icon but still have the extension enabled, but I can't find how to do this. Every link I click on has mysterious buttons that don't exist (there was one that had an instructional telling you to click a 'hide button' that was in the extensions manager, but this does not exist).

Please help, or at least suggest another extension that puts them in a drop down menu or something because I dont won't 30 useless extension icons all over my browser. thanks.

My system restarts on pressing Windows key and mutes/unmutes on pressing Ctrl key

Two days ago, I was trying to download software from http://download.cnet.com/

Cnet asked to install cnet toolbar and I thought that I wouldn't be able to download the software unless and until I installed the toolbar.

After installing the cnet toolbar I found that cnet has also installed Babylon toolbar on my Firefox and also its desktop application.

From that day my system is behaving weirdly.

  1. PC shuts down if i press 'Windows' key
  2. Sound mutes and unmutes itself every time i press 'cntrl' key..

Has anybody experienced anything like this?

Is it possible for third party to force hot keys?

Is a Firefox extension easily portable to IE?

There are no extension program en IE, but sometimes, you are asked if you want to install a toolbar. The two browsers don't rely on the same technology, and they must have different internal methods and conventions, but I was wondering if you can still convert a Firefox extension through some toolbar installation.

Does Opera (Presto engine version) have a bookmarks toolbar?

I'm using Opera (Presto engine version), and I want a simple toolbar for often used bookmarks like how Firefox has it.

I know that there's "Speed Dial", but that's not really what I'm looking for.

Is there a feature built into the Opera browser where I can quickly and or easily access bookmarks without being limited to the Speed Dial page or having to go into bookmarks manager?

is automatic unchecking of 'optional installs' possible?

Nowadays there is a hideous 'marketing' technique that seems to be used often when installing (mostly free) software: Either in the installer, or sometimes on the webpage you download the installer from, is a checkbox, checked by default, telling that you want to install additional software. Some well known examples for this additional software include:

  • Google Toolbar
  • Google Chrome
  • McAfee Antivirus
  • Yahoo Toolbar
  • Ask.com toolbar
  • Babylon toolbar
  • Many other toolbars and other adware programs that add 'browser functionality', change your browsers home page and possibly override your default search engine, as well as doing only god knows to the rest of your computer.
  • Etc.

If you need an example, try (re)downloading Java or the latest Flash Player or read this article about SourceForge and you'll see what I mean (or possibly you don't see it and get unwanted software on your PC).

Basically, I do not want this optional software. I also know of many other people who do not want it, but who are not well versed in informatics to notice the checked checkbox each time. They also seem to often be deliberately be 'hidden' amongst other checkboxes so most people won't notice them.

I find this a very evil business practice and would like it to be banned from the internet. Of course, since a worldwide ban is nearly impossible, I was wondering if there is another possibility:

Does there exist a tool that will automatically uncheck these checkboxes inside installers (and possibly on websites) so even non-technical people are protected from them?

Delete "Comment" and "Share" buttons from Adobe Reader X toolbar

Is it possible to delete "Comment" and "Share" buttons from "Adobe Reader X"'s toolbar? My screen is very-small (netbook) and I want to have some useful buttons on it, not the buttons I'll never use.

After I enabled all buttons I use, the "Comment and Share" part is not hidden and this part actually hides MY buttons, with "v" icon to access them. This is really annoying.
