How to remove addresses from Thunderbird's autocomplete drop-down?

When Thunderbird suggests email addresses for me as I type, there are many addresses there that I know are obsolete. How can I permanently remove them so they are never suggested to me again?

Thunderbird "undo send" feature (like in Gmail)?

I was wondering if there exists a thunderbird addon that gives similar functionality as Google's "undo send" feature? This basically just delays the sent message for a few seconds allowing the user to cancel the send if desired. I find this very useful in Gmail and would love the option now that I started using thunderbird.

I've seen the send later addon, but this isn't really what I want. I want something very similar to Google's feature where it automatically delays each message before sending with an easy to access option to cancel the send. Thanks!

HTML or rich e-mails do not work with Enigmal in Thunderbird

I would like to be able to receive HTML/rich e-mails, but since I installed Enigmail for Thunderbird, this has not been possible. All e-mails are shown as plain text or not shown at all. This has some positive sides, but some e-mails come though with very strange formatting.

How can I enable HTML/rich e-mails?

Change the default sorting order in Thunderbird

Thunderbird (2.something here as 3 is still not stable and had some nasty bugs last I tried) sorts mails by date by default. This is fine, however, it sorts them so that the newest ones are at the bottom of the list, which ... is not fine. Since Thunderbird saves its sort settings on a per-folder basis (and I have many folders) I regularly run into folders I've rarely or never been in which still have the old sorting order.

Is there any way to globally change the default sorting order to "Threads, newest messages at the top" (or anything else, which, I assume might be possible as well then)?

Why are there directories called Local, LocalLow, and Roaming under \Users\?

I have a workstation running Win2008 that's logged in an AD domain and I have a dual boot with Ubuntu Linux. When running Linux, I'd like to be able to use the same Thunderbird profile I use under Windows, so I pointed Thunderbird to use a profile I found under:

\Users\(myname)\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles

Turns out it was not the correct profile -- it had the right configuration, but the Inbox was an old version. I eventually found out the correct path was:

\Users\(myname)\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles

What's the rationale behind those different places to store application data?

Use Google Tasks in Thunderbird?

I'm using the GDataProvider along with Lightning to access my Google Calendar from Thunderbird. However I'd also like to have access to my Google Tasks as well. Does anybody know if this is possible at present?

The GDataProvider wiki suggests that they will support this eventually (they've been stuck waiting for a Tasks API), but I'm wondering if anybody has managed to get this working any other way?

Changing the From address in Thunderbird

I subscribed to a mailing list under a forwarding e-mail address. But Thunderbird sends mails from my real address (a GMail account). I tried to send my first message to the list today, but it got rejected because "The email address used to send your message is not subscribed to this group." Is there a way I can put my forwarding e-mail address on my messages instead of my real one?

Prevent Thunderbird from trying to display large plain text attachments

I have a coworker who loves sending large plain-text tab-delimited data files by e-mail instead of our network share. The problem is that Thunderbird hangs while it renders all of that text into the message view window, making my inbox unhappy for minutes at a time.

Ideally, I'd like to disable viewing of text/plain attachments above a few K, but if necessary I'd be fine disabling viewing of all text attachments and just rely on an external viewer. There wasn't an immediately obvious way to do this in Options. Is there a way?

How to stop smiley in Thunderbird showing up as a J?

In Thunderbird 3, when I receive a message with a smiley using the "Original HTML" or "Simplified HTML" viewing option, it appears like this:

That is … J. However, if I view the message as "Plain text" I get the smiley

The actual message in the "view source" looks like this:

That =F3 is an "ó" (I've censored the message for the easily offended Spanish readers out there). Maybe it is something to do with the encoding? I'm on Linux and use LANG=en_US.UTF-8.

Anyone know what has gone wrong here and how to fix it?

EDIT: I've tried switching encoding to ISO-8859-1 and forcing this, but no joy.

After further investigation, it seems that the Wingdings thing is the issue. The actual HTML has the following snippet where the smiley should be:

<span style='font-= size:11.0pt; font-family:Wingdings'>J</span>

... since this is a multipart text/HTML message and I had only added the plaintext part above.

How do I get Thunderbird to open an ICS attachment directly in Lightning's calendar?

I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird 9.0.1 with Lightning 1.1.1. Is there an easier way to import an ICS file attached to an email than saving it to disk, then in Calendar going to File --> Open?

If I select "Open with Thunderbird" from the save dialog, it just opens a new mail message and attaches the file to it.

(I did see this older question, but it refers to much older versions of Thunderbird and Lightning)

Update: I've updated to 10.0 and 1.2, respectively and it still doesn't work right.

How to disable thunderbird notification

I run Ubuntu Hardy and Thunderbird version 2.0.0.23 (not tagging for linux/ubuntu since I think is a Thunderbird thing, but you can re-tag if appropriate).

I am really tired of the email notifications, which appear in the right bottom corner of the desktop, often (but not always) covering the desktop switch panel, which I often need to click right when the notification appears (and instead I click the notification by mistake and I become very angry!)

Is there a way to disable the notifications altogether? I don't care about them, in my workflow I just switch to Thunderbird every once in a while when I have a minute or two to read/reply the emails (of course I've searched and RTFM, without any success)

How can I force Thunderbird to reload IMAP folder structure

Whenever I create a new label in my Gmail account, this creates a new IMAP folder. Sadly, that new folder does not show up in Thunderbird unless I restart Thunderbird.

This is not specific to Gmail. When I create a new IMAP folder on my own server, the result is the same.

To clarify. Here is what I'm doing. First, I create a new label in Gmail:

When I restart Thunderbird, the folder shows up just fine. I would like it to show up without restarting Thunderbird.

How can I get Thunderbird to check subfolders on IMAP?

I have Thunderbird set up to use my Gmail account through IMAP. All works well and good, except for one problem:

I have a group of gmail mail filters set up to redirect mail into different labels based on what it's for. However, by default, it seems Thunderbird only checks the Inbox for new messages. Is there a way to get it to check the subfolders aswell?
