How can I remap a tablet hardware key to alt-tab?

My issue is that there's no way to alt-tab on a tablet running W8 Pro (NOT RT) when I'm in a full screen desktop application. I want to remap my screen orientation hardware key to Alt-Tab. However, the problem here is that its scan code, E0_5B, is shared with the scan code for the hardware key for the Windows key. How can I remap the screen orientation key to alt-tab while retaining the functionality of the Windows key?

Edit: Before anyone brings this up, tablet buttons is not supported.

How to disable on screen keyboard on logon?

Yesterday I installed an old Wacom USB tablet just for fun, to see if it worked with Vista, and it did, since I've found a working driver.

The only thing annoying me is that now my laptop has been setup as a tablet, and an on-screen-keyboard is shown at the logon.

Not really an issue, but since I've googled around and found no answer apart from disabling all the tablet features entirely I was wondering if there was a registry hack-around to disable this behavior.

What's the difference between mobile and desktop processors?

I just read about the new Samsung Galaxy Note Edge having a 2.7GHz quad-core processor and 3GB of Ram.

The laptop I bought last year by HP is 4GB of ram and 2.3GHz quad-core and my iMac is even older and is 2.5GHz i5.

My question is does this mean that the new Samsung gadget is more powerful than my desktop?

Is the 2.7GHz the same kind of GHz as non-mobile devices (is it scaled up, or compared etc)?

Why, in terms of power, do modern computers not have 2 of those Samsung quad-core processors running in parallel pushing out 5.4GHz processing power for the amount of electrical energy as 2 Galaxy Note batteries?

Disable cursor ring for tablet in Windows 7/8

When I installed my Bamboo tablet in Windows 7/8, a ring shows anytime I click with the pen. Which annoys me.

How to set my Bamboo Fun to work only on ONE of my dual screens?

I need dual screen for my web developer job but when I do illustrations I prefer to work on a single screen to avoid the stretching of the workspace which affects tablet's precision.

Is there a way to make my tablet work only on my primary screen and, at the same time, use mouse for both screens? I've looked into my tablet's preferences and haven't found it.

I use Windows XP, Bamboo Fun A5, ATI Radeon X 1050.

Thanks in advance.

Why do laptops need fans but tablets don't?

I'm curious why a tablet doesn't need fans but all laptops do, even the cheap and less powerful netbooks. I thought at first it would be that the screen on a tablet is smaller than a laptop, so the graphics chip doesn't have to be as powerful and so doesn't generate as much heat. But then the new iPads have retina display which have a much bigger resolution than most laptops.

Then I thought maybe it's because tablets don't multitask like laptops can, but some Android tablets can have 2 (at least) apps open at once, and even jailbroken iPads can. While some low end netbooks struggle to run a web browser and word processor.

If you attach a keyboard to tablet you have a laptop, so why do laptops seem to generate disproportionate amounts of heat?

Is the difference between ARM and Intel/AMD chips? If so what is it about the different chip designs that make Intel/AMD produce so much more heat than ARM chips?

Why can't I Ctrl + Alt + Del on the On Screen Keyboard?

I have a Proline tablet running Windows 7 Professional. The client has added it to their domain, causing it to require Ctrl + Alt + Del to log in. They do not want to change this. If I plug a USB keyboard in, then the CAD combination works fine. Yet, when using the On Screen Keyboard, it has no effect. The problem is not that the touch is not working, the cursor follows the touch perfectly. At the end of the sequence, the cursor is hovering over the Del key, but the logon does not preceed.

Oh, and the screen reads; "Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE or use the Windows Security button to log on". Yet, the only button on the tablet is the power button.

What could be causing this and how do I fix it?

Weird cursor on second display only

After using a tablet for a while and disconnecting it, this weird extra artifact has appeared beside my cursor, but only on my second display. The cursor doesn't distort like mentioned in other questions I've seen here, it just has the extra bar on the left side.

weird cursor

Changing pointer theme to Windows Black or turning on pointer trails gets rid of it, but I don't really want to use a workaround.

I've tried

  • restarting (because it fixes a lot more things than it should, eh?) Didn't work.

  • reconnecting the tablet and undoing all my settings changes (I'd set the pen input area to only my first display, and turned off 'press and hold' because it was getting in the way of drawing). Didn't work.

  • shifting windows between the two displays. The cursor is specific to only the second display.

  • checking for driver updates, my mouse and tablet drivers are up to date.

  • disconnecting/reconnecting the second display. Didn't work.

The funny thing is I've used that tablet (an old Wacom CTE-640) on this machine before and I've never encountered this problem.

Does anyone have any idea what this is?

What do I need? a digital pen or a pen tablet or something else? [closed]

I use lot of regular pen and paper. Most of my work includes

  1. I write a lot of lengthy articles in my native language (not English).
  2. Solving maths problems => writing a lot of mathematical equations
  3. Solving chemistry problems => chemistry especially organic chemistry
  4. Design Diagrams (UML, Class, E-R etc) : simple stuff. No fancy art!
  5. I read a lot of technical books. I use a regular notebook as well as a Word document for note taking. The Word document is for capturing screen shots and pictures/paragraphs from the e-book of the same. The regular notebook is for complex annotations like diagrams, etc. Now these two notes are not synchronized. I want to have one notebook. I prefer it to be in the computer because I can backup and share.

As a result of this heavy use of regular paper I've a pile of regular notebooks. I'm finding it difficult to search through them. They are very important to me. I'm worried that I may lose them (I already lost few)

I've looked for some solutions. I've seen videos of Pen Tablet on youtube. It seems to have too many functionalities that I don't need. I do not need different levels of pressure sensitivity. It seems that it was made for professional designers. I don't do any art stuff. I'm a bit tight on budget. So, trying to choose only that which serves my purpose.

Queries regarding Pen Tablet:

  1. Can I use it like a regular pen? I mean, I've only seen people (on the web) using it as a marker (writing in huge sizes). As, I said I write a lot of lengthy articles in notebooks. Can it write in normal size (like on paper. see picture below)? alt text

  2. In my mind, the size of working area on pen tablet is the size of the page. Is that right? Do I need a large size tablet for writing lengthy pages? If not, then I can make it fit in to my budget by purchasing the smallest available tablet. I don't mind scrolling

  3. What kind of disadvantages do I have if I purchase the smallest possible size (3" x 4") pen tablet?

The only problem with Pen Tablet is that it needs the tablet. It doesn't work on plain paper. I cannot afford losing hard copies of the notes for an online version. It doesn't feel like reading while reading online.

I felt Digital Pen is more close to my needs after seeing this. There is no need of tablet. It works on plain paper (It does work on plain paper. right?) With this I can use a carbon paper underneath and make soft copy & hard copy simultaneously.

I don't care if it works for single software (MS Word, MS OneNote or what ever). I need some form of online notes as well as offline notes.

What's the best suited gadget for these purposes?

PS: Kindly try to answer all the questions. That really helps me choosing the best option.

Use laptop as bluetooth keyboard?

Here are the facts:

  • I have a computer (hurray!)
  • It has a working bluetooth chipset
  • It is running Linux (Debian)
  • My tablet (an iPad, but it probably doesn't matter) supports bluetooth keyboards

Is there a way of turning my computer into an bluetooth keyboard ? That is, can I make my physical computer keyboard available to my tablet through bluetooth ?

Also, If you have a solution that involves Windows, I'm willing to take that too :)

How can I completely disable tablet functions in Windows 7?

I'm the owner of an HP Pavillion tx2120us tablet PC, which has a known problem of making the cursor jump to the lower right corner of the screen.

I've narrowed the problem down to the pen tablet function, since in Vista I was able to turn the tablet input process down, and the problem seemed to go away. It was a simple matter of just opening the task admin and killing the process.

However, as far as I can tell, I can't find the same process in Windows 7, and I have supposedly already turned the tablet functions via "Start" -> "Control Panel" > "Programs and Features" > "Turn Windows features on or off". Yet after a reboot the screen still seems to react to the tablet pen.

How can I finally turn the darned tablet functions off (while still being able to re-enable them in the future)?

EDIT: I have also turned the service off and restarting, as suggested by outsideblasts, to no avail.

Can't connect to a share

I have a laptop with a Windows XP Tablet Edition installed. I have several users setup on the laptop (mostly me and my kids).

When I try to connect to its administrative share via \DadLaptop\c$ from a Windows 2000 Professional machine, it prompts me for a user name and password. However, after I enter it, it always tells me "incorrect password or unknown username".

As a test I setup another share, called "test" and tried to connect to that. It worked fine, didn't even ask me for a password, just connected to it and that's that.

All the networking is wireless. I am connecting with an admin account (admin on the target computer). What am I missing? Why can't I connect to an administrative share?

Can a tablet pc be used as an input device? [closed]

I have a tablet PC that'd I'd like to use as an input device for my main (powerful) desktop. How can I set this up?

My desktop is running Windows 8 64 and the tablet is running Windows 7 64

I would like it set up so that the information viewed on my Desktop is also able to be viewed on my tablet display.

I would also like to be able to use the tablet's pen input to work with content being processed by my more powerful desktop computer.

The reason for this is :

The Desktop has a lot more processing power but of cause does not have pen input for pressure sensitive design work.

The Tablet PC has relatively weak processing power but has the advantage of Pressure Sensitive Pen Input.

A drawing tablet combined with a dual-monitor system issue

I have an Aiptek Media Tablet which I've used on my old computer for creating digital art. For about a month now, I also have a new Quad-core Windows Vista 64-bits system with plenty of disk space and RAM.And the tablet works perfectly on my new system. Then, three weeks ago I also bought a second monitor and turned my setup in a dual-monitor system I didn't use my tablet for the next three weeks so I didn't realise that a dual-monitor will increase the desktop size. In my case, the desktop is now 3520x1200.

The problem now is that my tablet, which supports 4x3 and 16x9 modes is now used for a 3x1 mode. Thus, when drawing a circle on the tablet, it becomes an ellipse on the screen.

I hate that!

So, is there a solution to just limit a tablet to a single monitor? Are there other tablets that are more monitor-aware?

In how far is the Ampere number important for USB powered devices?

Currently, I have three devices that can be charged via USB:

  • Digicam: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ41
  • Tablet: Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
  • Smartphone: Nexus 4 (LG)

They have three different chargers:

enter image description here

The output of the three differs:

  • Panasonic: 5V, 800 mA = 0.8 A
  • Samsung: 5.3V, 2.0 A
  • LG: 5.0V, 1.2A

Is the voltage difference important? What does the ampere difference mean?

I think (but I'm not sure about it) that it means when I load the devices with the Panasonic adapter they will load slower. The Samsung adapter can support "heavier load". But does that mean I could load all three devices with the Samsung adapter?

I have heard that the tablet recognizes when the charger is not a Samsung charger. How could it do that? Is there a chip inside the Samsung adapter that sends information while loading?
