Emulate middle mouse click by pressing the two buttons at the same time

I upgraded the driver of my Synaptics Touchpad under XP and I can no longer press the left and right buttons simultaneously to simulate a middle click. How can I turn this back on?

Where to find the latest digitally signed Synaptics touchpad driver?

In the past, Synaptics provided their touchpad drivers in a digitally-signed self-extracting executable. For example, here is an older version of the driver hosted on the official Synaptics website, that is provided in a digitally-signed self-extracting executable:

However, the link on their website for the latest version of the driver currently points to an unsigned ZIP archive.

Or, if they've stopped providing their newest drivers in a digitally-signed self-extracting executable, what's the most recent version of the driver that was provided in a digitally-signed self-extracting executable?

Making Synaptics Palm Detection Work Under Ubuntu 11.04

I'm currently using a MacBook Pro (5,5) with Ubuntu 11.04. Everything works great except palm detection with the Synaptics driver. If I use the "multitouch" driver, palm detection works great. In the past this is what I've done but the multitouch driver won't turn off the trackpad while typing and, given the size of the trackpad, it's tough to avoid. ;)

I've been playing with the various settings for a while (both through the GUI and by adding options to my Xorg setup) but nothing seems to change the behavior of the trackpad. I can see that my settings are taking effect through synclient, it just doesn't seem to change anything.

Has anyone managed to get this working? I'm starting to think the problem is specific to Ubuntu, there are many pages on the internet that claim to have this working.

Windows10 - synaptics forgets settings

i upgraded to windows 10 and updated synaptics drivers to 19.0.12.95 - so now drivers are compatible with windows 10, but it forgets settings in control panel. If i disable reverse two finger scrolling and system tray icon after restart icon is back and scrolling is reversed.

Any idea how to fix it?

I found out that settings in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics are missing after restart

What i tried: set users permission to full control on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics

Getting Synaptics trackpad to send actual scroll-wheel events

I have a laptop (a Samsung Series 9) with a Synaptics trackpad, and I have Windows XP on it.

One of the nice features of this trackpad is that it allows you to scroll by placing two fingers on the trackpad and then dragging them up or down.

But the really annoying thing is this: Instead of acting like any other scroll wheel in existence and sending scroll wheel events to Windows, for some reason the Synaptics trackpad has special logic for scrolling. It changes the mouse cursor to a drawing of a scrollbar, and then scrolls the window itself using a seemingly proprietary mechanism.

The problem with that is that this scrolling doesn't work on all apps. For example, it doesn't work on GTK-based apps, which I use a lot.

I really have no idea why the Synaptics developers chose to reinvent wheel-scrolling, at the expense of their users...

Anyway, is there a way to make my trackpad send standard scrollwheel events, so it'll work in all apps?

Prevent Windows 10 from installing/updating a specific driver?

It seems that the recent Synaptics driver update for Synaptics SMBus TouchPad on Windows 10 (build 100049) somehow doesn't see my middle-button. Uninstalling, and installing an older driver for Windows 8.1 from the HP site (my machine is HP EliteBook 8570w) restores the middle button functionality.

Few days later, the driver updates itself again, and I lose the middle-button.

I realize I'm running unsupported software, but is it possible to prevent updating this particular driver, without either disabling updates altogether or preventing other drivers from updating?

Editing the Synaptics touchpad driver registry settings

I'm also running mDesktop, which gives virtual desktop functionality. At the moment I have it set up so that "Ctrl + Left arrow" and "Ctrl + Right arrow" switch between the desktops.

I would like to set up the three-finger swipe on the touchpad do let me switch. I'm thinking that I can put a key into the AppProfiles key for the Synaptics driver for Windows Explorer to accomplish this, but I'm sure what the specific DWORD values I should use are. Where can I find them?

I just got a new Windows 8 laptop, but it doesn't have a touchscreen, and it seems like a lot of the gestures are designed for touchscreens, and not current mice & touchpads. Is there a way to use the new gestures on my laptop's touchpad?

Synaptics touchpad stops working randomly

I have two laptops. One dell Vostro and other Vaio Z. Both have Synaptics (Yes, I have checked, and the original drivers were from Synaptics as well). On both laptops, the touchpad scrolling stops working at some arbitrary time and nothing seems to solve it except a reboot. Sometimes, it randomly starts working again. I have downloaded all latest drivers from OEM.

Interestingly, when I run a program as Administrator, scrolling works in that window only.

This problem is very odd. It happens without any reason and I've not been able to find a fix for more than a year. I have seen some unusual suggestions on forums (e.g., to "restore windows to a previous working state") but never any fix that solves this issue properly. I have tried installing latest drivers and I DO NOT want to restore windows to a previous working configuration.

OS: Windows 7 64 bit Professional (Sony Vaio Z - VPCZ128GG) Windows 7 32 bit Professional (Dell)

EDIT: Temporary solution is to uninstall the synaptics driver and let Windows 7 use its default built in one. However, I really prefer the Synaptic driver because it activates the scroll button rather than the mouse wheel (useful in some apps)

Use Synaptics Touchpad Scroll in VMware Guest

I would like to use Synaptics "Two-Finger Scrolling" inside a VMware guest.

It works as expected on the host but VMware does not seem to support it. The mouse cursor changes to indicate that scrolling is active but the VMware guest will not respond to it.

• Host and Guest OS: Windows 7 (64bit)

• Device is shown as "Synaptics LuxPad V7.4"

Is it possible to make this work somehow? (e.g. modify .vmx, change Synaptics options or with a driver that emulates "mouse wheel scrolling")

Update: I have already tried several options in the Synaptics driver but the only change was that it displayed a different mouse cursor when trying to scroll.

Synaptics stole Alt+Shft+L -- how can I reclaim it?

When I updated to Windows 10 it installed the latest Synaptics touchpad driver on my Lenovo W520. I tried to remove the driver but Windows brought it back with the next round of updates.

This particular driver registers a global keyboard hook on Alt+Shift+L to generate and show its log file. However, as long time user of Resharper, I was already using that keyboard shortcut regularly while running Visual Studio.

I don’t want to see the Synaptics log file, ever. I don’t even use the touchpad. I tried disabling it in the “Device Manager.” Does anyone know how to kill the Synaptics global keyboard hook?

Synaptics touchpad scroll doesn't work on many applications

The Synaptics touchpad in my new laptop doesn't scroll at all in a number of applications, including Steam and Zune.

I've narrowed the problem down to Synaptics not sending mouse wheel messages, but rather manipulating scroll bars.

I'm only looking into one-finger side-of-touchpad scrolling, not two-finger scrolling.

Is there a way to make it send wheel messages so that it is compatible with all applications?

• Windows 7 64-bit
• Dell XPS 14
• Latest Synaptics driver (have tried both from Synaptics and Dell)

Use touchpad while "typing"?

My laptop (a Sony Vaio on Windows 8) disables my touchpad when I "type". This means actually typing, or just holding down a key like say, W, A, S or D. The touchpad stays disabled for a short period (<1s), after releasing all keys. Naturally, I want to turn this feature off.
The touchpad uses a Synaptics driver, but I can't find a setting anywhere to enable the touchpad when typing.
I found values that allude to this functionality in the registry (e.g. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2\ZoneManager\TPTyping - Enabled), but their value is always 0, so I reckon it must be coming from somewhere else.
I've tried reducing the touchpad's sensitivity, as I read somewhere that there that certain values might secretly activate the "palm detection" functionality, which in turn secretly activates the "disable then you type" functionality, but to no avail. (Yes, I already went quite deep into the rabbit hole.)

Edit 14-11-12: I've updated the Synaptics driver using the one from the Synaptics site, but I still don't have a setting to enable the touchpad whilst typing. (Neither do I have the "PalmCheck" settings.)

Edit 27-11-12: I've gone back to the original driver, as the generic one had too many issues for my liking. This version doesn't have PalmCheck either, but like the generic one, it does have something called "SmartSense". Apart from the name, it looks like PalmCheck. Turning it off however, did not solve the problem.
