Prevent Nail from attaching my message as a .bin file?

When I pipe a very long change log into nail, I receive a blank email with a .bin attachment named ATT00001..bin in Outlook. The file is 36KB and contains the expected text but double spaced (presumably something to do with line endings). If the messages are brief, this doesn't happen.

How do I prevent Nail from converting my message to an attachment?

Suse Linux 8.0 Download

A coworker has a server that is being moved, currently running SuSE Linux 8.0 (i386).

~ # uname -a
Linux lvls 2.4.18-4GB s1 Wed Mar 27 13:57:05 UTC 2002 i686 unknown

They tried transferring it to SuSE 8.2 (the earliest version they could find) but it failed; something about a problem with virtualization. They were unable to find a copy of SuSE 8.0 anywhere... nor was I. Is someone aware of where we can find this version of SuSE still? We are transitioning away from this ancient box, but can't just drop it immediately.

Enerprise SuSE, GRUB startup "error 2"

A few hours ago I just bought a new HP Probook 4540s which has an Enterprise SuSE 12 built-in installed on that. I'm just trying to turn-it on and there is an error GRUB ERROR 2 ..., and nothing else. The guy on the shop just tweaked a few things on the BIOS to show me the HDD capacity, however I just reset everything in BIOS to the default.

Does anyone knows what's the problem?

How do I disable the SuSE screensaver?

Running SuSE 11.1 w/ KDE 4. Screensaver keeps blanking out my screen on me and I can't find a setting to turn it off. A secondary issue is that it also eventually locks my screen on me if screen is blanked for awhile. Would like to make it stop doing that too! Hard to use it as a monitoring/display session if it keeps blanking out my screen!

How to change log level in /var/log/messages?

I'm running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, SP2 (SLES10 SP2), and am seeing a large number of what support calls cosmetic errors being logged to /var/log/messages.

Does anyone know of a way to change the log level in the /var/log/messages file?

what's the difference between "ip a" and "ifconfig" under SUSE 11

I found the output of the two commands are different and it seems that "ip a" will list more interface's infomation that ipconfig, so the simple question is why? from my understanding, "ip a" is just kind of alias for ifconfig.

Where can I find linux-kernel-headers-x.x.x.x for SUSE?

I'm installing VMware Workstation on a SLED 11 SP1, and the installation is blocked by an error message "Kernel headers for version 2.6.32.27-0.2-default were not found". If you installed them in a non-default path you can specify the path below. Otherwise refer to your distribution's documentation for installation instructions and click Refresh to search again in default locations.

The output of rpm -qa | grep kernel is

kernel-default-2.6.32.27-0.2.2
kernel-default-base-2.6.32.27-0.2.2
linux-kernel-headers-2.6.32-1.4.13
kernel-default-extra-2.6.32.27-0.2.2
nfs-kernel-server-1.2.1-2.10.1

I had met this issue in Ubuntu and I installed the required linux header via apt-get then the issue disappeared. But in SLED, I didn't find the rpm package in SUSE's software repository, and I also google "linux-kernel-headers-2.6.32.27" but did not match any documents.

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

The output result of zypper se kernel | grep kernel is

i | linux-kernel-headers | Linux Kernel Headers | package
  | linux-kernel-headers | Linux Kernel Headers | srcpackage

How can I fix this configure error?

I'm trying to build mosh from source on a SUSE10 machine and am getting the following error:

checking for protobuf... no
configure: error: Package requirements (protobuf) were not met:

No package 'protobuf' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables protobuf_CFLAGS
and protobuf_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

I downloaded the source to protobuf and installed it in a custom path as well. I'm not using a package manager for any of this and cannot for various reasons outside the scope of the question. I added that custom path to my PATH and rehashed. Typically, this is enough for configure but in this case its not doing the trick. I added the prefix for protobuf to PKG_CONFIG_PATH but am still hitting this error.

What should I do next to get past this error?

sudo su runs without password prompt?

So here's the problem. We've got the /etc/sudoers file set up so that users can run commands from /bin like "cat" or "mkdir" without entering a password. The problem is that the "su" command is also in /bin, so if they enter "sudo su", it gives them root access without a password. Here's the /etc/sudoers file:

Defaults targetpw
%users ALL=(ALL) ALL

root ALL=(ALL) ALL

support ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /sbin/, /bin/, /opt/, /etc/init.d/, /elo/
support ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/mysql

Is there a way I can deny /bin/su while still allowing the rest of the /bin commands?
