I have a Logitech M510 wireless mouse and am on a Mac. Right now I can assign different actions to the 2 thumb buttons through the Logitech control panel. What I want to do is have mouse button combos to perform actions.
So if I am holding thumb button 1 and click the left button, a tab will close in Chrome. As well as any other "hold one button, click another" combination.
Is there a way to accomplish this type of customization?

I have a few computers on my LAN, and now I'm getting tired of remembering the IP addresses all the time, so I would like to start using DNS names on my LAN.
I have a heterogeneous network with Windows 7, Ubuntu, Mac OS X and Android.
Is there a free DNS server software that is easy to setup on Windows 7, preferably with a graphical user interface or maybe web-interface?

I've got 3 videos, all 3 have the same time, same amount of frames, and they only differ in terms of encoding quality.
Now I need them to run side-by-side in synchronized fashion for evaluation purposes. Meaning when I press "play" BOTH! videos should start. Analogically for stop, forward, backward.
Anyone know any player capable of doing that? By that I mean playing more than 1 video side-by-side...

I have an external drive and it's not working well. I want to move all the stuff to a new external drive before it's too late.
copy and paste will not work as it keep coming "Path too long" and kills everything. What do you think of XCopy?
Looking for a free solution - what do you recommend?

Do you know a good Windows software to compare PDF files side-by-side and show the modifications between the two?
It would be great if you can post both free and not-free products.

I need an alternative to Visio for making diagrams (particularly signal processing block diagrams) that includes some kind of custom stencils + connection points. I just spent 2 hours learning bits and pieces of Dia only to find that it has no rotational capabilities, not even 90 degree rotations. Otherwise it's great.
Any suggestions?

I've just installed Windows 7 64-bit and have found that it's file search really really sucks. What is a good alternative that I can load on my system to do file searching?
Note: I don't care about text searching in the file. I just want to search by filename.
EDIT: To sum up what is mostly in the comments:
- Agent Ransack - Has a big bug in it, that's really limits its usefulness. Their fix doesn't work, and its been out there a few years.
- Everything - Doesn't have very many options, and really sucks when trying to search in a specific path.
- Fileseek - Now has a way to get around the recursive loop problem

Like many people I take quite a few photos, and also like quite a few people I don't back up as frequently as I should.
What I'd like to be able to do is automatically synchronize my "to be backed up" folder to some of the other machines that live on my home network.
I need something that:
- Doesn't require anyone to be logged on
- Monitors folders and doesn't require a manual start
- Only sends across what has changed
- Doesn't force traffic over an Internet connection (The initial sync may be several gigabytes)
- Isn't limited beyond local available disk space (EDIT: For the sake of argument, assume there is in excess of 50 Gb that I'd like to float around.)
- Copes if "the other end" goes away unexpectedly, is not available (for instance, If I've taken my laptop to see my parents, I obviously won't be able to see my desktop PC)
Is anyone aware of anything that fits the bill? I've come close, with things like Windows Live Mesh (but that is both limited in quantity, and requires me to be logged on at both ends for the sync to er, sync), but I want to evaluate the options before sitting down and developing something myself if needs be.
Does anyone know of anything that fits my requirements?

I have a PDF of a scanned book.
I'm looking for a free software that will perform OCR and then provide an option to save it as a PDF or document again.
Is there one?

I am looking for an application with features as follows:-
It will give me a dual monitor set
up with a Windows 7 taskbar
with Aero peek and the Start Menu on each
monitor.
The taskbar should display only the
applications running on that monitor
and the start menu should start
applications on the same monitor as it resides.
I have tried the following applications without success:
- Nvidia nview manager,
- Ultramon,
- Display Fusion,
- Multimon Taskbar Pro
Does such an application exist?

I would like to use a (small) SSD disk as a cache for a large hard disk. I realize there are hardware-based products that do this: HighPoint RocketHybrid HBA, Intel SmartResponse and others. There is only one software-only product that I could find: ExpressCache by Diskeeper:
ExpressCache intelligently and automatically combines the best attributes of SSDs and HDDs without any effort or pre-requisite knowledge from the user, so users get the best of both worlds; dynamic performance and scalable capacity. Since SSDs as small as 4GB can be used, it provides an incredibly affordable solution for manufacturers.
Comprised of User mode and Kernel Mode components, ExpressCache uses the SSD as an intelligent cache, coupled with an HDD, to improve overall system performance and greatly speed up Windows PC startup, application launches and data access speed.
However, this product is OEM only!
I looked for alternatives, without any success... I cannot understand this: It sounds like a great idea, no additional hardware is needed, and it could really boost the disk performance without spending a fortune.
So, I'm asking if anyone knows any software that does this, either for Windows or Linux. Or if you think this is a bad idea, I'd like to know why.
Note: ReadyBoost is not really suitable for this. It is built with the assumption that disk writes are really expensive, has very little effect on systems with plenty of RAM, and does not scale properly if your SSD is 100GB+.
