How do I change linux mint's default search in Chromium to normal?

I've used Linux Mint for over 6 months, and have been loving it until I installed Mint 11 today. Everything was great until I loaded up Chromium and saw that it only allows you to search through Mint's custom Google search, which is unsatisfactory. How do I change the settings so that it's back to normal? Someone asked the same question earlier, and he ended up sort of answering the question himself, but I don't understand what to do with the info he provides.

how to remove the chatzum search engine from my browser

I'm using Google Chrome on a Windows 7 computer, and I've noticed that when searching for something by just typing in the address bar, it now returns a search results page from something called 'chatzum', where it used to return a google search results page. I've checked my settings, and google is still my default search provider, so why am I getting this chatzum search results page?

I assume it's some kind of virus, but I haven't been able to find anything that will get rid of it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Firefox search engine for local google (.com.au)

Is there a way to make my Firefox 3.5 "Google" search engine use google.com.au rather than google.com?

Ideally I'd like that change Ubiquity to do that as well.

Can I search the RapidShare-like servers for certain files?

RapidShare's answer to that question is:

No, RapidShare protects the privacy of its users. Only the person storing a file on RapidShare receives the download link. That person can decide who should have access to the link. A file can only be downloaded if the download link details are known.

Isn't it possible to search RapidShare using Google's "site:" parameter? For example:

"martial arts" site:rapidshare.com

fetches some results from rapidshare servers.

Change the search engine used by about:home in Firefox

Firefox's default home or start page provides a search engine with some snippets below it. Is there any way to customize the search engine used through about:config or some other configuration file?

localStorage["search-engine"] sometimes gets reset, possibly after an update. I would like to avoid creating a Greasemonkey script that scripts on about:home. If an extension exist to fulfil the task, I'd be happy too.

I'm using Firefox from Kubuntu 11.04 if that matters.

how to make a browser/search engine ignore detecting current location

A lot of people are annoyed (including me) when a browser/search engine detects the regional settings. If I am in Romania, it redirect the search engine to google.ro and sets the language to RO. I know how to modify the language, and I can search using www.google.com/webhp, but I don't want to do this every day, i was hoping that there is a setting or an addon to disable the detection

How to change IE 10 search engine in Windows RT

With the Microsoft Surface right around the corner, I've been trying to live in Metro apps to see if I could live without the desktop in Windows 8. One thing I've noticed is that I can't change the default search engine in IE 10, or at least I can't change it without going to desktop. However, that option won't be available for Windows RT, because there is no desktop mode.

Firefox: Add a custom Google search including pre-defined keywords

I'd like to figure out a way to have customized Google searches to choose from in the Firefox search bar in the top right corner. By customized I just mean the possibility to add specific pre-defined keywords which would then be appended automatically to the performed Google search.

For example, if I am looking for movie subtitles, I'd just like to be able to select my custom made "Google Subtitles Search" that would just magically add a "subtitle" keyword to the search.

Google Chrome's quick search in Firefox?

I recently switched back to Firefox from Chrome for a number of reasons, but there is one Chrome feature I really miss. For instance, I had the Wikipedia set to search with the keyword "w," so to search Wikipedia, all I had to type was "w Bill Gates" (without "") in the address bar and it would automatically search Wikipedia for Bill Gates. Is there any way to enable this in Firefox, or is there an extension that will do it for me? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Google Chrome automatically adding websites to my list of search engines?

I have noticed that certain websites (e.g. Stack Exchange sites, Dell, etc.) are automatically added to my list of search engines in Google Chrome.

They even add a keyboard shortcut to their entry. Here are some examples:

  • Dell: Keyboard -> Dell.com
  • Stack Exchange Web masters: Keyboard -> webmasters.stackexchange.com
  • Reuters: Keyboard -> reuters.com

Q1: Is this the default behavior in Chrome? (to let websites add themselves to the list of search engines?)

Q2: Is it possible to disable this behavior in Chrome?

Note: I'm running the latest version of Chrome: 11.0.696.57 on Windows 7 64, and I only have one extension installed: Google URL shortener.
