Accessing default SSAS Tabular instance from public IP with RRAS role enabled

I have SQL Server 2014 Business Intelligence installed on Windows Server 2012 R2 with RRAS role enabled. It seems like RRAS added some restrictions for accessing from outside world because I have no problem to connect to SSAS Tabular model while on VPN connection. But accessing from public IP is refused with the following messages:

A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)

A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond <here's my external IPv4 address:2383> (System)

Are there any ideas how to allow SSAS to be accessible from public networks in this RRAS-enabled OSE?

How can add a portopening to windows server 2003

I cannot open firewall in the windows server 2003 to add one portopening to my server. It's got an error messsage:"Windows Firewall can not run because another program or service is running that might use the Network Address Translation component (IPNat.sys)".

I've checked RRAS, it's also diabled on my server.

Please help me to solve it, how to add a portopening, such as 30030 to my server.

Thank you alot!

The route addition failed: Cannot create a file when that file already exists

I get this error when using c:>route add <route_and_interface_here>

This happens on a RRAS server that has a PPTP site-to-site VPN setup with demand-dialing static route. This route shows in RRAS routing table but does not show in c:>route print table which might be the first source of the problem.

Anyone seen this before? Anyone with experts-exchange account that can read the proposed answers there?

Problem might be connected with applying SP2 on Win2k3 and installing RRAS after that from RTM disk.

RRAS client lost internet connection

I have my RRAS/VPN configured on Windows 2012 R2. My RRAS client is on Windows 2008 R2.

The RRAS has two NICs. First NIC, ExternalNIC, is configured with public IP (173.248.x.12)to connect internet. Second NIC, InternalNIC, is configured with local IP (10.0.0.2).

I have configured static pool of local IP (192.168.1.4 and 192.168.1.5) in RRAS server to assign to RRAS Client.

I want to route all RRAS client traffic through the public IP of RRAS server. The "Use default gateway" option must remain CHECKED at RRAS client.

When I connect RRAS client to RRAS server, the internet connection is lost at RRAS client. I have configured static route but it doesn't work. What should be the correct static route configuration?

Configuring RRAS with two static IP

sorry about my bad english i try to make it simple.

i have a windows 2003 server with two nic (Local area connection 1 & 2) and two static IP, one for public ip (130.185.72.-) wich provide access to the internet and one for Interanet (10.201.2.-) wich only clients inside the country have access to it.

the server has configured for "VPN" and "NAT" using RRAS.

everything work fine with external IP and client can connect to it and have access to the internet.

What i need is to client connect server through the internal IP and have access to the internet too.

Problem is when i add local area connection 1 to the NAT, the interanet IP loses access to outside of server and report timed out when i ping it. but external IP still working fine.

  • Only Local area connection 1 has a default gateway.

I searched a lot and couldn't find an answer.

again, sry for my bad english and thanks for your help.

Server 2008 RS RRAS

Forgive me if this is in the wrong place but...

Working in an office which has just had a new VOIP system installed. We've moved the IT stuff from the old building to the new one, to discover that the new VOIP system is on a different subnet to the original one. Consequently, the phones work, but the PCs can't access the internet as they are on a totally different subnet.

Example: The VOIP system is on somehting like 192.168.79.0/255.255.255.238 and the PCs are 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0

Can I use RRAS on the (single) Sever 2008 R2 if I use two of its NICs, one on each subnet?

If so, is there an idiot's guide to setting it up that anyone can recommend please?

Synchronizing SQL Data with or without a VPN

I have written a Windows application that stores data locally in a SQL Server Express database. It is used by multiple people from remote locations who need to synchronize their data occassionally. It requires a fairly simple synchronization process of only a handful of tables and I'm currently accomplishing this by linking each of the SQL Express installations to the "central" SQL Server using a linked server. I then run queries against the remote data and add/update/delete as needed. This works really well.

However, I'm having a difficult time with the VPN connection that is required to make this happen. Before beginning the synchronization process, the first thing the user does is establish a VPN connection with the server (running RRAS on Windows 2003). It works well most of the time, but I run into lots of irritating problems such as the VPN dropping if the connection isn't stable, often the AT&T cellular connection fails to establish a VPN connection (remote users sometimes HAVE to use this method), and one user has two machines at home and only one can have a VPN connection at a given time due to a router limitation. Some run XP, other Vista...it's really a pain and the VPN piece is proving to be very frustrating for me and the users.

Do I have any fairly simple options that I'm overlooking? My first thought is to use a webservice, but that would require passing all of my data to the server, through the webservice, for processing. That's not practical. Another thought is to install a second instance of SQL Server Express on the server, have it listen on a different port, and then connect directly this rather than through the VPN (I'm not even sure this will work with SQL Express. Will it?). I know this has security implications, but how much so? The data is not confidential in nature, nor mission critical. Are there better options that can be done with a minimal amount of work/learning?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.

Routing and Remote Access Randomly fails

I have a windows 2008 R2 server. It has routing and remote access running on it as both a NAT and a VPN.

Problem: Access to a specific website will fail randomly. Approximately 20 users all hit the company website tracking tool which is hosted off site. These users are all in the office, using NAT via the w2k8 server to get to the internet. They complain that Tracker dies frequently. I caught it once: 1) the server was able to get Tracker, both http and https, quickly. 2) client computer could NOT get http Tracker quickly (it timed out, and sometimes succeeded after 20+ seconds. 3) client computer could get https Tracker quickly 4) client computer could get any other website without troubles. 5) At that time all other client computers were not getting Tracker quickly. 6) After some amount of time, Tracker resumes working for everyone.

Clue: I am confident that the 20 users in the office hit Tracker more than other websites combined.

Clue: The VPN would randomly stop working for a user. The user would disconnect/connect and it would resume working fine. When it stopped working, both ends showed that it was connected, but ping did not work (therefore this is not a DNS problem). I put a VPN on a different server (a spare w2k3). The 2 VPN users use the other and have no complaints now. Note, the "client" above are not using VPN.

My guesses: NAT tables are somehow getting clogged with hits to this server. Maybe the algorithm used by RRAS to look up a NAT mapping is pathetic such that a lot of entries for one destination IP will result in a hash table that has a huge linear search in it.

Maybe the NAT table is not flushing dead mappings and runs out, or flushing all at once? There is some 24 hour setting for when unused entries are deleted, but I would assume that if there was some 24 hour thing, then it would frequently reuse these entries for all these repetitive hits to the same server.

I am having one Server "windows server 2012 r2" with single NIC

I have few client outside my network so,

I need to configure RRAS server with VPN/NAT for remote client

Does RRAS server required two NIC to work with VPN/NAT? If YES can anyone please explain why?

Or can i work with single NIC? Means any additional configuration required?

It will be very appreciated if i got any simple explanation
