Windows 7 - right-click in Explorer doesn't select first

When I'm using Windows Explorer on Windows 7, I'll move my mouse over a folder or file in the pane on the right then right-click. But instead of getting the context menu for the thing I'm hovering over it gives me the context menu of the containing folder. I have to left-click to select the item first then right-click to get its context menu.

Vista worked the way I liked, I only noticed this change when upgrading to Windows 7. Is there a way to get back to the old way of just right-clicking instead of select then right-click?

How do I remove the "Undo" option from Windows' right-click context menu?

I am looking to remove the Undo option from the menu.

I have looked at the similar questions on Super User, and I cannot find a method to remove this item. Please include more than just a link to some program in your answer.

disabling move on left click in Win 7

It keeps happening, not too often but I always hate it, I accidentally move a file or folder to some random location because I was scrolling and the mouse went off the scroll bar and BAM!!! files start copying to another location. While undo usually fixes this, I would rather disable this altogether.

Does anyone know how to disable this. I'd rather use the right-click to move and have to press that on the copy/move/cancel dialog.

Remove "SkyDrive Pro" from context menu?

I've recently installed Microsoft Office 2013 and noticed a new SkyDrive Pro option is added to the context menu when I right click on a file or folder. I'm not using SharePoint and do not want that extra menu option there.

How do I remove SkyDrive Pro from the Context Menu?

TightVNC server not getting right-clicks from Mac Screen Sharing/VNC client?

I am using Apple's Screen Sharing client in OS X 10.6.2, to connect to TightVNC running on Win XP. But TightVNC is not receiving right-clicks.

Scaling is on, and everything else is working fine. I do not think it is a problem with the server because a friend was over and was able to send right-clicks to my server using a RealVNC client.

Add "Edit With Photoshop" To Right Click Menu

Is there a way to add an option "Edit with Photoshop" to the right click menu in Windows? I know I can just go to "Open With > Adobe Photoshop CS6" but that's about 3 extra steps.

Thanks.

Windows 7 right-click menu

I've recently moved from Windows XP to Windows 7. Under Windows XP I installed various programs that added items to the menu that appears when you right-click on a file. For example, when the Vim text-editor is installed under Windows XP, it adds an "edit with Vim" item to this menu.

I've noticed that when I install these same programs under Windows 7, nothing gets added to the right-click menu,

add menu items to SHIFT + right click menu on Windows

The point is to add right click menu items only for shift+right click. Don't even bother: regular right click is all over the web, but i want to add some items that wouldn't clutter my right click.

here's how to add "Open Command Window Here" for right click menu. What do I need to modify to add it only to shift+right click?

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\CommandPrompt]
@="Open Command Window Here"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\CommandPrompt\command]
@="cmd.exe /k pushd %L"

(Yes, I know, that's exactly what win7 does).

How to temporarily stop web pages intercepting a right-click?

Some websites like Google Drive intercept right-clicks and provide their own context menu. This is usually what I want, but sometimes I still want to do a normal, native browser right-click.

Is there any modifier key or something like that to make it so a right-click doesn't trigger a click event on the web page, so it can't show it's context menu?

I want to do this per-click, not by changing a setting somewhere.

If there are different techniques depending on browser/OS, please list them.

Right click on mouse crashes Windows Explorer

Whenever I click the right button on my USB mouse or trackpad of my laptop, Windows Explorer will crash and restart. All windows opened will close.

I am using Windows 7 Enterprise. Has anyone else faced such a situation before?

This happened just after I plugged in a USB 3.0 hard drive to my laptop.

How to exit from fullscreen mode of Putty?

This annoyed me for a while, but as usual; really annoying problems have quite simple solutions.

Some sw I just don't use often enough to remember its hotkeys, like PuTTY. So I end up using the toolbar-menu or the right-click menu to achieve what I need. A couple of times however I have been quite at a loss with PuTTY when right-clicking the title-bar and selecting fullscreen from the menu.

How do I exit fullscreen again without exiting PuTTY? I don't remember the hotkey for it, and now there is no visible menu/title-bar!

--edit-- I still don't know the default "toggle fullscreen" hotkey for PuTTY, so if someone want to enlighten me on that they are very welcome to. :)

I have a Windows 7 PC. When I right click on an icon, it takes 10 seconds for the menu bar to show.

Here is what eventually appears:

Why does it take so long? Or any ideas on a systematic way to troubleshoot?

Can I add right-click options in Google Chrome?

In Google Chrome, if I select a piece of text and right click on it, I get the option to:

'Search Google for [text]'

I find this extremely useful but I'd also like to be able to add my own options.

For example, I'd like to add the ability to search amazon.co.uk using the selected text or go straight to Google maps using the selected text (i.e. an address or postcode) and so on.

I can sort of add this functionality using PhraseExpress but would rather be able to do it straight from Chrome - is it possible?
