How to get headphones and speakers working at the same time?

I have a Gigabyte P55-UD3 motherboard which comes with a Realtek sound card and audio header for the front panel. My headset is permanently connected to the front panel (mic in, headphones in) and I also have speakers connected at the rear of the computer. What I want to achieve is that both the headphones and the speakers work at the same time.

On my old PC with Realtek, I was able to do this by clicking "Device advanced settings" in the Realtek HD Audio Manager and then clicking "Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously" and then doing some reassigning of front/rear settings in the Realtek Audio Manager (can't remember the details).

But that doesn't seem to be working now - either the speakers play sounds or the headphones, not both at the same time.

To pose the question differently, Windows plays the sounds on the "default device". I'd like to make both headphones and the speakers kind of like the default devices.

Plugging in headphones does not mute speakers

My speakers are working even when I plug in my headphone to the front jacks. So I hear sounds from both headphones and speakers. This is quite annoying.

How could I fix this? What could cause this problem?

I'm using Realtek HD Audio Manager 6.0.1.6392 in Windows 7. My motherboard is a Sapphire Tech PI-AM3RS785G.

How do I get Realtek HD Audio 5.1 working on Windows 7?

I have problem with Realtek 5.1 driver for Windows 7 x64. I've installed newest drivers for Realtek HD Audio, but 5.1 still doesn't work, the only thing that works is front stereo. However, when I click on single speaker in sound settings test, every one of them work.

How can I tell what audio chip is in my laptop?

Trying to get an audio driver for my Dell Inspiron 6000 for Win7. I've tried the Sigmatel STAC 97 driver from the Dell website, running setup in XP compatibility mode as suggested, and tried a Realtek AC97 driver, but nothing works. I assume Realtek and Sigmatel are two completely different companies, yet both have a AC97 drivers. What's the difference?

How can I tell exactly what sound card I have? Where is the best place to find the correct driver?

Is it possible to switch between earphones and built-in monitor speakers?

When I plug my earphones into the front panel of my CPU, I get sounds from my earphones. When I unplug it, it goes to the default built-in speakers of the monitor.

Is it possible to set through a software which audio output device it would use? I couldn't find "speakers" being listed in the Playback tab. It only contains one item and it remains like that when I plug-unplug the earphones.

When my earphones are plugged, there is no sound coming out from the monitor speakers. With earphones unplugged, sound comes out from the monitor speakers.

What I want to happen is for both devices to be plugged in and be able to select which device it would use through a software.

Is this possible? I also tried accessing Realtek Audio Manager. Right now, both are plugged (monitor speakers and earphones):

Very low sound in Windows 10

Been googleing around for a few days now on that problem, nothing seems to work.

The sound coming out of the speakers is very, VERY low. It does so since I updated to Windows 10 and then resetted to factory status via windows 10. So low that you can hear it only if there's no other sounds and really concentrate on hearing it. I tested, and it's not white audio, it's really the right sound.

I blame this on realtek HD sound (the basic Windows sound driver).

Here's what I tried.

1. Plugged my phone in my speakers, played music, came out of the speakers normally (with good sound.)
2. Plugged headphones instead in the jack instead of the speakers, no sound in the headphones too.
3. Front jack works fine.

So I know the problem comes from the back jack port, and not my audio setup.

Realtek Audio HD seems normal:

win7 headphone jack not working

I don't remember what happened, but I realized my asus laptop has no sound coming from the headphone jack when I'm on windows. I remember it working a month ago.

I have an Asus laptop with realtek audio hardware on windows-7(64). I get no sound from my headphone jack, and here are what I have done to try and fix it:

• uninstalled the driver and let windows install one
• installed the realtek HD-Audio-Codec on my own

It works fine on linux. But on windows;

• if the drivers are installed, then I get no sound with the headphones plugged in
• if the drivers are not installed, I have 2 speakers to choose from in the sound menu. Sound comes from one (laptop speakers) and sound doesn't come from the other (plugged-in headphones).

As a side-note,the mic is detected just fine when plugged in.

When playing DVDs with VLC media player, both video and audio pause several times per second

When using the VLC media player to play DVDs both video and audio pause several times per second. This makes VLC unusable for playing DVDs.

Windows Media Player works without any problems.

Is there a solution for this problem?

This problem appears for all the versions of VLC I have tried, including the newly realeased v1.0.0.

Platform: Windows XP 64 bit, 8 GB RAM, AMD Quad core (Phenom), built-in sound (ASUS motherboard, Realtek).

Update 1: the problem is solved by selecting "Higher latency" for menu Tools/Preferences/Input & Codecs/Default Caching level. See Keck's answer for further details.

Find Windows 7 driver for Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express

We have a desktop computer here which has Ubuntu installed. We want to install Windows 7 on an identical computer, but now have no network connection. Windows doesn't recognize the network card.

On the Ubuntu PC I executed the following command:

When I search for Windows drivers using RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express (or other combinations) I only get Linux results.

Where can I find the Windows driver for this network card?

Enabling Surround sound on a Realtek ALC892 via SPDIF, on Windows 7

I have a problem with my ALC892, on an ASRock mainboard (ASRock 890FX Deluxe4).

I get only stereo sounds if I use SPDIF connection, in general. My amp shows that is getting surround sound only when I use the Test feature of Windows 7. This test feature allows to know which formats are supported by the audio chip. The tests render correctly both Dolby Digital and DTS. You can find this test under Sounds, Playback Devices, Select Digital Audio, then "Properties".

I am using Windows 7 x64, with the latest drivers from the official Realtek website. I also tested other driver versions, both from the Realtek website and from the ASRock one, but had no luck.

• MOBO: ASRock 890FX Deluxe4 (with onboard Realtek ALC892)
• Audio amp: Onkyo R-380 (works fine with other sources like PS3 and Xbox 360)

"Stereo Mix" produces very distorted, near to unrecognizable output

I'm on Windows 8 RTM x64, using the designated Realtek Drivers.

This is not just random noise, the output is almost silent when no sound is played. This recording was done with Audacity, although I got the same issue with "Listen to this device" (+ unbearable feedback)

Realtek drivers on Linux

I just bought a Lenovo X200 and it has a Realtek wireless card. I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 on it. There are a number of suggestions online about how to get the wireless drivers for the realtek card but none of them seem to work and the authors themselves claim their suggestions may not work. Any ideas on how to get wireless working with a realtek card?

How can I make sound come through both my speaker and headset?

I switch between activities that I want speaker/headphones for many times a day and I don't love the wear and tear this puts on my audio jack (my last two computers have had their front audio jack give out which just makes the situation all the more annoying)

I am wondering if there's a way that I can make my computer output sound through both so I can then handle which one I want sound to come through via the OS and I don't have to touch any cables.

Running Windows 7, my sound chipset is Realtek ALC892.

Sound crackling in Windows 8

I have Windows 8 and a Realtek high definition audio integrated in the motherboard. For some reason I always get crackling sound when I listen to anything.

It doesn't always happen and it last a split second. It's more like an abrupt burst. And I can't do anything about it. I tried reinstalling the drivers or changing the sound quality from the control panel. This is pretty irregular as it can happen when I move the mouse on a button. Sometimes it gets worse and I usually don't see this effect when I first start the PC but it gets worse as I use it more and more.

Also, the computer sometimes hangs for a split second too when I hear the crackling sound.
