How to recover forgotten remote windows RDP password?

I had found this example: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/remote_desktop_password.html

But it turns out it doesn't seem to work with the "newer" RDP save files.

Anybody have any tips to retrieve my lost RDP password?'

If I could simply change the ip address and use the same (hidden) login information for this one RDP file I would be saved! :S

Rar Password Unlocker crashing with rockyou

I am trying to use Rar Password Unlcoker with the Rockyou dictionary to unlock a file. Unlocker works with smaller dictionaries and brute force. As soon as I use the 140MB Rockyou list however I get the message "Rar Password Unlocker has stopped working" and am forced to close the program. I have closed all programs on my computer (a Lenovo AMD notebook) except file explorer, have 4 GB ram and am running Windows 8. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

How to retrieve my Gmail password, from Google chat?

About a year ago my laptop was stolen at the airport. I bought another, but could not remember my Gmail password, not could I remember the answers to the private questions, nor had I registered a call phone with Google.

So, I accepted that I had lost a bunch of memories and created a new Gmail account (being careful not to be so dumb this time).

Here is where it get interesting ... I found an old hard-drive over the weekend; the one which had originally been in the stolen laptop before I swapped it for a larger one.

I booted from it - into Windows Vista and it auto-started my old Google Chat account. Yay!!

From that, I can see my chat sessions - and also my email. But that is a bit clumsy.

  1. I reckon that the auto-login details must be stored somewhere (registry?). Is there any program which can retrieve my password? I tried the utilities from NIRsoft but they did not work. Is there something better?

  2. Since Google chat lets me see my email, is there anyway that I can download it all to my PC? Mybe by using Thunderbird, etc, maybe by a Gmail backup or export function?

  3. I would also like to get back my passwords for yahoo mail & hotmail and for Yahoo chat, but that would just be a bonus, as my Gmail is what I would really like to get.

And, yes, I did write to Google and they were friendly and understanding and cited security issues and would not let me rest the password on the mail account.

I hope that someone will help me and that others will make a backup of their passwords and security questions before this happens to them.

How can I retrieve my ssh passphrase from gnome-keyring?

I forgot the passphrase for my ssh private key, but it's still stored in gnome-keyring, so it seems to me that I should be able to recover it. Seahorse lets me recover web site passwords from my keyring, but I don't see a way to recover my ssh passphrase. Can someone tell me how to do this?

using John the Ripper to recover RAR password

Testing John the Ripper in Mac OS X as a RAR password recovery solution, but xargs gives me an error:

john --incremental:all --stdout | xargs -I jtr unrar e -pjtr -inul test2.rar | grep 100%
xargs: unterminated quote

But when I add '-0' to xargs to deal with the quote, I get another xargs error:

john --incremental:all --stdout | xargs -0 -I jtr unrar e -pjtr -inul test2.rar | grep 100%
xargs: insufficient space for argument

Which I suppose is because the '-0' is preventing xargs from using newlines as delimiters, which is creating the space issue?

Any ideas on how to make xargs happy? Is there a way to solve the quotes issue while keeping the newline delimiter intact?

no administrator password for Windows 7

I'm a secretary and my boss set up my new Windows 7 OptiPlex 7010 (Dell) computer for me while I was on vacation (he does not remember setting any "administrator" password). We are a small office so there is no system password set, either.

I've used it for 6 months, all the while I couldn't access network drives, etc., without an administrator password. It was annoying, but I could still get my work done.

Finally, on a slow day I took it upon myself to "fix" the problem, and in all my infinite wisdom, I managed to change my user account from administrator to standard user, so now I really can't do anything. I can't download or install any programs, move or rename files, etc.

I tried the Dell suggested solution, but the BIOS tells me there is no password set, so it has to be a Windows 7 problem. All the solutions I have come across require an administrator password to let me do them.

What can I do to find out the admin password so I can use my own darn computer!? Is there a default admin password?

What can I do when I have forgotten my LastPass Master Password?

Right, Here's the situation I'm in - got assigned to a new system. Installed LastPass. LastPass login stares at me... and I'm blank.

The password hint doesn't work ( mainly because after their recent anomaly, I changed my master password but didn't update the password hint question). I'm logged in to my LastPass vault via my Nexus S, as well as my laptop at my home.

But how do I retrieve the master password from either of them? I don't have the master password saved in LastPass vault or in any of the the browser password managers. Neither do I have it written down somewhere

How do I recover or reset VMware ESXi Server root password?

I've inherited a VMware ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 but haven't found any documentation, especially not the root password, nor have I gotten hold of the former admin.

The suggestions I've found online presuppose that I first get a GRUB boot menu, which I don't.

So, lacking a GRUB menu, how do I recover or reset the root password, short of a reinstall?

If it is of any significance, the server is a Dell PowerEdge 2850.

windows 8 password reset [duplicate]

This question already has an answer here:

A friend of mine has accidentally lost her windows 8 password. I tried booting a live USB Hiren's & Windows windows unlocker enterprise (windows xp based live disks). The problem is that the normal mode is UEFI based (in BIOS) and it does not allow to boot Legacy OS (like xp). But when I enable "legacy mode", it disables the UEFI mode so Rescue CD's dont show the internal hard disk of laptop.

Any help ?
