How to limit inbound Gmail (ideally) or other free web email to only from contact list (to make it kid-safe)

I'm trying to make my kids' (ages 9.5 and 9.5) gmail accounts safer.

Is there a way to limit (filter, etc.) inbound email to only email from folks on their contact list?

How can I send from Hotmail with a different from address

I have set up an email forwarder, from let's say jon@example.com to jon@hotmail.com. Jon wants to be able to send email from within hotmail that appears to come from jon@example.com. How can you do this?

(A quick web search didn't turn up anything - it's a bit hard to think of good search terms for this particular question ...)

How to auto-forward email from Hotmail? [closed]

Some time ago -back in about 2006 (I was a late adopter)- I switched my primary email account from Hotmail to Gmail. I don't want to delete the account, if only for the remaining web-services and newsletters that are sent there, not to mention my occasional IM use.

Is there any way1 to automatically forward filtered emails from Hotmail to Gmail (or any other service)?

  1. There wasn't back in 2006, and I don't recall subsequently finding any means to do so without the use of third-party tools.

How can I switch back to Hotmail from Outlook.com

My Hotmail has been switched to Outlook.com automatically and I do not like the Outlook at all. I just need to get my Hotmail back and tried to do the steps mentioned. I can't find the sentence on how to switch back to the old Hotmail?

Do email services send sender's IP address?

If I'm going to receive/send email through Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo, would I be able to see the IP of the sender? I know there's nothing to do with the IP but would it give away the location from where I'm sending emails? Just curious if such email providers send this information.

Why can't Hotmail (or other providers) tell the difference between spoof and real emails?

Why can't Hotmail tell the difference between spoof and real emails from a domain (such as blizzard.com)? I get swamped with phishing emails from "blizzard.com" so I put it on my blacklist but then I can't get legitimate emails.

Is there no information in the headers that can be used to definitively determine where the email came from?

How can I reset a Hotmail password if I don't know the security question?

My sister recently changed her Hotmail password and she can't reset it, because the security question looks like this:

reset password screenshot

The question was written long time ago in Greek and apparently Microsoft doesn't display it right. Is there another way of reseting it besides these two options?

She is using a Password Safe for her passwords, but probably she didn't save this one and then totally forgot it.

Import email addresses to Hotmail contacts without inviting as friends

I'm trying to set up a group of contacts in Hotmail with an imported list of email addresses.

Under Contacts there is a manage menu that has an Import option. However, that lets me import a list of addresses as live.com friends (it shows the invite people page and will send out an invitation email to each address).

I don't want these people to be live.com friends. I just want a list of email addresses I can treat as a group.

Are my only options to:

  1. Add each email address manually as a new contact?
  2. Use a different email service or listsrv?

Attaching SkyDrive files to Hotmail emails

I love SkyDrive, but find it frustrating when I want to attach a file that's on my SkyDrive to a new Hotmail message. I have to download the SkyDrive file to my computer and then attach the file to the email.

Is there a way to "cut out the middle man" and just attach the file directly from SkyDrive?

How to migrate from a Hotmail account

Is there an easy way to move from a Hotmail account to something else, like a Gmail account or a new Hotmail account? Without losing all the folders, emails, contacts, etc.

Forwarding emails from outlook.com to Gmail

I need to forward e-mails to my Gmail account from outlook.com (due to their IMAP lack), but I don't find the option in the settings or anywhere—their layout is highly unintuitive.

Note: Please note that I am not talking about MS Outlook or MS365, I’m talking about the new outlook.com. I also do not want to forward from Gmail to outlook.com—that is described in the help already.

My initial research (below) shows that Microsoft doesn't provide this information.

Initial research:

According to this article, mobile access is possible, but it doesn't work for me on iOS.

How did my email get hacked? What to do next?

I use Hotmail. My password was strong (upper/lower case letters, digits, and special characters. No dictionary words. It was only 8 characters, maybe that was the problem?

I only use this password for my e-mail. Nothing else.

I didn't receive or respond to any phishing emails.

I checked news sites and there is no report of Hotmail itself being hacked.

MalwareBytes and other scanners/tools I have claim my system is clean. No key loggers.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how my account could have been compromised? They immediately changed the password, recovery questions, and recovery email. Then they sent spam asking my contacts for money (to be sent via Western Union). The IP address the mail appears to originate from seems to be a Nigerian ip block.

First, I don't understand how my password could have been gotten. When I tried guessing passwords, after 5 or 6 attempts, it made me enter a capatcha before each attempt. Can people brute force Hotmail/MSN passwords?

Second, it doesn't appear that there is anything I can actually do. When I search online, all I find are tips to prevent being the victim of fraud (IE - don't send money via Western Union) but I can't find any place to report the criminal(s). Does such a place exist?

Finally, what steps can I take to prevent this in the future?

Outlook.com - Printing Problem

With Outlook.com - whenever I try to print an email of say 3 pages, it only prints the screen view and 2/3 of the page width. I've resorted to emailing emails I need to print to my "spare" email to print the way I expect. Does anyone have a solution? This used to be fine before upgrading from Hotmail.
