How to "middle-click" on new macbooks

I have recently switched to Mac, and the only thing I miss from my old notebook is the ability to middle-mousebutton-click by clicking both mousebuttons simultaneously.

This is a crucial feature when browsing the net as it opens links in a background tab. The best solution I have found by now is holding down Command-Shift and clicking, but this is often a bit hard to do (yeah, I surf on the couch (hey, it's a LAPtop after all) and often sit in strange positions)

Any tips on how to do this on the otherwise lovely and adorable trackpad?

Determine which Opera tab uses 100% CPU?

Sometimes a tab gets stuck at using all CPU time it can get. I know theres a way to check which one for Chrome or Firefox -- is there a native method and/or extension to do this in Opera? Checking pages one by one in another browser is not a solution. Firstly, I can get the same effect selectively closing and opening tabs, secondly, my workflow includes having 25+ tabs, and when I realize that Opera slows down whole OS, it's a pain to check one-by-one. Last but not least, often it's not some flash-heavy or obviously CPU-consuming page causing it.

Opera 31: Remove default Search Engines?

Up to and including Opera 30 you could follow this link here which simply directs you to delete some .json file containing the default search engines.

Starting today, with the latest Opera update 31.something, this trick does no longer work. If the default_partner_content.json file is missing (or things are deleted from it), Opera will complain on startup and ask for a reinstall. Putting the file back in place restores Opera to working, but the default search engines are there obviously...

Has anyone found a new way to get rid of the default search engines?

(If I accidentally search that ridiculous yahoo again instead of youtube, as configured by me, I will lose my sh**.)

How do I disable tab stacking in Opera 11.01

There's new feature in Opera 11.01 called tab stacking. It helps you to hoard tabs.

It works for (and annoys) me in Opera (11.01 build 1190) under Win32, but somehow doesn't appear in the same build for Linux.

Does anybody know how to disable tab stacking?

How safe is the password manager in browsers?

For example, Opera has a "wand" feature that remembers user names and password you typed across various sites.

Let's say you get a trojan, which steals data from your PC. Can the trojan decrypt stored passwords by browsers, and use them?

Take a screenshot of an entire webpage in Opera

Is there some tool within Opera, or possibly an add-on, which will let me take a screenshot of an entire web page? I usually use Screengrab to do this with Firefox, but in this situation I want a screenshot of the page as Opera renders it (because I want to show the page as rendered with HTML5 form controls like date and time).

I am currently using Opera 10.60 x86_64 on Fedora 12, so solutions that work in browser would be preferable rather than external programs.

How to synchronise bookmarks between Google Chrome and Opera?

I use both Google Chrome as well as Opera. Is there any way by which I can "auto synchronise" the bookmarks between Chrome and Opera?

By "auto synchronise", I mean whenever I bookmark a page in Chrome, it should also be bookmarked in Opera's bookmark list and vice versa.

Does holding down Ctrl/Shift while clicking refresh actually have an effect in modern browsers?

I have been pressing Ctrl or Shift while clicking refresh for so long out of habit that I am not even sure it has any effect in modern browsers.

In the past it was used to do a 'hard refresh' - i.e. not reloading anything from the cache.

Does this still apply? If so, is the effect it has still the same?

How to disable automatic updates in Opera?

some features in opera 25 are changes, with old documentations. I want to disable Opera auto update.

For this I read this opera webpage however there is no more "preferences" in opera menu.

so how to change this option?

update:

thank you all, and here is why.

Sometimes we are forced to do that, you will realize that with too many applications ask for updates over a slow connection or limited access traffic, the updates will be awful, horrible, consume the bandwidth, and prevent me doing my job, so I need some control, when to allow the updates to start and when to stop it. all other applications(Firefox, eclipse, even antiviruses and windows 7, ...etc ) give us an API to control updates, some of these applications informed with the risk and we decide when to update it. it is Ok to update as default behavior, but do not take the decision on behalf of me, let me change this, I know what am doing, and I am responsible for that.

Avoid Blurry texts when having 150% of normal DPI (windows 8.1)

(yes, it is a common problem but the found solutions are not acceptable for me)

I am using one screen 1920 x 1080 and 125% of normal DPI is even little for me and prefer to have 150% on windows 8.1.

When DPI = 150% texts in opera and chrome are blurry but not in Firefox http://imageshack.com/a/img545/3117/5jyw.png

When DPI = 125% (default) text is cristal clear just they are small http://imageshack.com/a/img812/5769/p8r7.png

I have tried solutions that allegedly solved my problem:

  • a) turning on Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays - no effect on text sharpness (see the first image)
  • b) Program's context menu > Compatibility tab > check Disable display scaling on High DPI settings - the program ignores 150% scaling and shows like on 125% scaling. This means Text size is small:

enter image description here

Note that even device manager (native Windows program) is blurry on 150% DPI.

enter image description here

So, I am searching for a method to get clear and big size text in all programs (e.g. opera, chrome) on windows 8.1

How do I add, edit or manage custom search engines in Opera 15 or higher versions (Chromium-based)?

The recently released Opera 15 is now based on the Chromium engine and now doesn't manage custom search engines like the previous versions.

I found this method of managing custom search engines for Chrome but it doesn't work for Opera 15 or higher versions. There is no 'Manage search engines' button in Settings > Search.

How do I manage custom search engines in Opera 15 or higher versions?

Does Chrome have anything similar to the search keywords in Opera?

I am thinking about switching my web browser to Google Chrome on my ASUS EEE because it has better screen usage but I really do like a lot of the handy things Opera provide.

In particular, I especially like custom search keywords that let me search on various sites in the address-bar by using keywords. For example g something would search for something at Google, while w something would search at Wikipedia and k something would search at Wiktionary.

After having used this for years I find it very annoying when I have to actually visit the sites to do the search...

Does anything similar to this exist in Chrome?

Google search results - getting actual links

Whenever I do a Google search, if I right click and copy the URL of a result link, it results in a Google redirector URL:

https://encrypted.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=get+rid+of+google.com/url&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CFQQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.google.com%2Fwebmasters%2Fbin%2Fanswer.py%3Fhl%3Den%26answer%3D1269119&ei=12z1T-m6H4iW-waK59nUBg&usg=AFQjCNGu4lqQob5nmkkt-H5OwapeffIIqQ

This has many disadvantages for me, the three most important being:

  • inability to copy a link without visiting it
  • the redirection often takes several seconds, while the actual page would load immediately
  • privacy issues

Is there a way to make Google link to actual URLs? Maybe there is a browser plugin which visits resolves all URLs and replaces them?

The same problem applies to Facebook - a typical outgoing link looks like this:

http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dod-jMrp9FVY%26feature%3Dshare&h=0AQEiN80h

My browser of choice is Opera so an userscript or Opera plugin would be preferred, but I'll be happy to hear about all possibilities.

How to make Opera open search results in a new tab, like Firefox?

In Firefox you can highlight a word on a web page, right click, and google it. The results opens in a new tab in the background.

Opera has the same thing, the only problem is that it opens the results on the web page you are currently viewing. How can you make it open in a new tab (preferably in the background) like Firefox?
