What's the easiest way to update album art?

I don't have the album art for most of my music, and I don't have time to go find and download images for all of my album. Any suggestions?

Automatically sort music files into folders by album/artist names

I have a large collection of music files (let's say MP3), with metadata (ID3 tags), but all are located in the same folder. I wish to automatically organize all of them according to this metadata.

Can I import sheet music to play on a PC?

My daughter is learning to play recorder and cello. She gets sheet music home to practice.

Is there any way that I can scan the sheet music onto my PC, and play it on the PC?

It would be useful to know about both ends of the price scale. My own aim is for purely amateur purposes, so cheap and cheerful is best for me. I simply wouldn't buy an expensive option.

Is there an equalizer for windows that works regardles of audio/video player [closed]

I'm tired of having to tweak the audio on every media application I have installed.

Is there an app that will sit between any media application and my sound-card so that I can set audio levels and equalizer settings once and for all?

Any beat detection software for Linux?

Amarok 2 can search through music collection using ID3v2 tag's 'bpm' field. That would be very nice to retag the entire music collection so I can find the 'mood' of the track I like.

However I've not found any beat-detection software that could have helped me. Have you ever used one? CLI, preferably. Also I'm interested if there's anything alike for tagging FLACs with the same 'bpm' field.

Thanks! :)

P.S. I'm aware there's a nice moodbar feature, however it's useless for searching.

Do most music CDs contain the needed info about their tracks?

I see that many audio players (I mean multimedia software like Winamp or Foobar2000) have the ability of searching music information on databases like CDDB. Shouldn't such info already be available on the music CD itself? And is it there?

Some players display the CD contents and others do not. Is that info taken from the internet or the CD?

VLC player hotkeys will only work while it is selected

I got my media keys to work in the hotkeys under the settings, and they do work... when I have VLC selected. If I deselect it (not close the window, just click on another one) then the keys will not work. So, while playing Skyrim, I cannot press the next key and change the song, unless I select it first, which then the button is pointless. Please help. How do I get the Media keys to work while in another window other than VLC player?

Is there a music player that will automatically mute when other audio starts playing?

I find myself listening to music while I use my computer, and constantly pausing and un-pausing the music when I watch a video on youtube, open up a game, or any other task that needs audio.

Do any music players exist that will automatically mute, or pause, when other audio starts playing on your machine?

I'm using Windows 7 primarily, although I do also use Linux (Fedora 16) on my laptop, so suggestions for either OS would be appreciated. Also, I don't mind paying a bit for an audio player, although free software would be preferred.

Windows 7: Add column to ALL music folders

In Windows 7 Explorer, when I open a folder containing only music, it's smart enough to show me a custom set of columns (Name, #, Title, Contributing Artists, Album) that make sense for a music folder.

However, I also always want to see a Length column.

I can right click on the column headers and add the Length column, which is persistent for that folder, but when I go to another music folder, it doesn't have the new Length column.

How do I set up Windows so that ALL music folders ALWAYS show me this column?

Can you burn a CD using a DVD-R? [closed]

Is it possible to burn a CD using a DVD-R and have it play the music on a CD player? Or, for the obtuse:

Is it possible to take a pre-recorded CD in Audio CD format and copy the content to a DVD-R disc so the copied disc will play in a standard CD player.

iTunes ITL binary file format

Does anyone out there have information about the iTunes ITL file format?

I have found a document on CPAN that describes the format as it was 4-5 years ago, however it seems to have changed in recent years. I'm currently using iTunes 8.

I'd like to know so I could update the "Date Added" attribute (amongst others) for my music files. Every time I move my music collection to a new computer, attributes such as Date Added seem to get reset to that date. This is on WIndows XP.

I've downloaded the latest COM API for iTunes, but "Date Added" is readonly as are many others.

The iTunes XML library file can be edited, but the changes are over-written from the ITL file each time iTunes is run.

I've had a look at the ITL file in a Hex editor, and I can interpret the first few bytes of the header file, but I have a feeling it might actually use encryption on the remainder of the file.

Any ideas / links?
