Powerpoint: how to insert document property (aka 'field') in slide?

How can I insert a document property (e.g. the author's name) in a slide in PowerPoint 2007? I know this can be done in Microsoft Word, but I can't find how to do it in PowerPoint.

(The idea is that with a document property it is easy to change e.g. the content of the footer in all the slides, even if you use different master pages. If there is a different solution, that would be fine as well.)

PowerPoint Rehearse Timings with Use Presenter View Checked

I am trying to rehearse a presentation and have been dismayed to discover that when trying to use Rehearse Timings I do not get a Presenter View. When just doing slideshow I do but not when attempting to rehearse. This is annoying because I have notes on my slides that I intend to use to jog me while giving the presentation. Is there someway to get Rehearse Timings to work in such a way that it actually lets you rehearse?

How do I embed video in PowerPoint with relative paths?

I'm using PowerPoint 2003. Does anyone know how to embed a video in a PowerPoint presentation in such a way that it can be moved to another computer?

Possible solutions I'm considering:

  • Actually embed the video file into the powerpoint file. This would be ideal, but I don't know how to do this.
  • Insert a reference to the video into the presentation. I need this to be a relative path, though, not an absolute path.

Changing bounds of excel file embedded in powerpoint

When I embed an excel files into powerpoint, I'm having two issues.

  • On some of the spreadsheets, empty columns are displayed on the right hand side of the powerpoint slide
  • On other spreadsheets that are too large to fit, I can't adjust the bounds of what I'd like to be displayed on the slide. So, I couldn't choose a larger area to display of the excel spreadsheet and just size it down. It arbitrarily chooses where to cut off the excel spreadsheet on the slide.

Is there any way to adjust which part of the excel file is embedded?

Convert PowerPoint to Flash or Silverlight? [closed]

I have a simple PowerPoint presentation and I would like to convert it to Flash or Silverlight. The presentation is a simple "Slide after Slide after Slide" and my first guess was to use OpenOffice Impress.

Sadly, the picture quality is awful. I would need the presentation to be in a specific format (900 Pixels wide and as high as it needs to be, usually 675 pixels)

Can you recommend any good, simple PowerPoint => Flash or Silverlight converter that does that?

Change the spell-checking language on a PowerPoint presentation

I received a PowerPoint presentation with dozens of slides, each of them with a number of text boxes. Although the presentation is written in English, the language for spell checking is set to Canadian French. I’m trying to change the language to English, but even if I select all the slides and select a new element on the Language dialog box, the language of the text boxes remain the same. So I have to go slide by slide selecting the text boxes and then changing the language individually.

Is there a better way to do this?

The version of PowerPoint I have installed is 2002 SP3.

How do I change the language of all Powerpoint slides at once?

I want to change the proofing language of all my slides in a Powerpoint. I've tried setting the language via the Language Preferences menu, however this only changes it for new powerpoints.

Cannot edit footer in PowerPoint 2010 (seems to be embedded into background)

I am not a big expert in Microsoft PowerPoint. At work we have PowePoint 2010 installed. We have a corporation-specific template that includes a kind of footer. Now, I am not sure that I can call it a footer. Here is how it looks:

enter image description here

But I cannot find a way to edit it. Double-clicking it does not work. If I try to use standard way Insert > Head and Footer, the window appears showing that there is no footer. Just like that:

enter image description here

Making any edits in this window does not have any effect on the way footer is displayed (see first image).

I have also noticed that if I tick the option called Hide Background Graphics in Design tab, the footer disappears. This makes makes me think that footer is just a part of embedded graphics. However, page numbers vary for each page and the date is always updated with today's date value. And the last fact definitely proves that footer contents are dynamic and can be changed.

So the question is how do I edit the footer? All I need to do is to change text "Presentation title" to the actual title (See first image).

What I have tried so far:

  • Usual way to change footer as described at Microsoft support page (no effect)
  • Changing document properties and setting the presentation title in there (no effect)
  • Double-clicking the footer (no effect)
  • Choosing option to edit the background (no effect)

Remove all unused master slides in a PowerPoint presentation

My company recently created a new PowerPoint template. On its own without any slides, it is 9MB in size. This is completely unusable for sending to mobile devices and annoys customers. The main culprit is high resolution images on the master slides. Most of the time I don't use the 8 slides with the high resolution images. I have tried compressing the images, but that only get's the template down to 5MB empty, still too big.

Is there anyway to save the presentation an automatically discard the unused giant master slides. Obviously I can go in and delete the master slides, but was wondering if there is anything that allows you to automatically do this.

Is it possible to increase only the vertical size of a shape in PowerPoint?

I have a shape (rounded rectangle) in PowerPoint 2007 of which I would like to increase the vertical size only (to illustrate de-bottlenecking). So, the width will stay the same but the height will grow (both from the top and bottom, so the centre will remain in the same location).

Custom Animation -> Emphasis only appears to change the whole shape.

Is it possible to increase only the vertical size (stretch the shape)?

This is during animation of the shape.
