Key to mute my Skype mic?

I'm using a Mac.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for muting the mic during a call?
I can't find one, and I often need to toggle mute/unmute.
Clicking the button on the Skype interface is very inconvenient :(

How to play MP3 files into the microphone input

In a chat session, whenever I want the other person to hear a pre-recorded voice, I need to play it on my speakers and use my microphone to capture it. How can I play MP3 files into the microphone input so that whenever I do a voice chat I could play the MP3 file in such a way that I am speaking through the microphone itself?

Operating system: XP Pro sp3

Is there a way to suppress keyboard sounds picked up by a desktop microphone in Windows 7?

The problem I'd like to solve is that my desktop microphone picks up all my keystrokes very loudly compared with my voice. Even just lightly tapping a key without depressing it causes a loud click to be picked up.

I'd like a way to filter out this type of sound, while picking up voice normally. Is there any software input equalizer/filter that could do this? Or alternatively, some sort of hardware hack?

How to stop the 'live' mic sound playing through the speakers?

I have an old Toshiba Laptop (Satellite 1900-03) running Windows XP. I recently bought a little microphone to plug into the mic port but discovered that the sound is being fed live through the speakers causing feedback.

My question is how do I stop the 'live' microphone sound being piped instantly through the speakers without normal sound still being played?

spectrum analyzer that shows 'live' input from the microphone

I have a friend which helps children with speaking disabilities, and she needs some software that shows the amplitude of the sound immediately as the children speak through the microphone.

I have tried Audacity, but it has a delay of about one second.

Any recommendations on such software?

Note that the OS is Microsoft, and the software should preferably be freeware.

How to play the sound from the microphone?

I would like to amplify my voice using the computer. My Windows won't play the audio from the mic by default. How to configure it to do so? Should I use some app? Which one?

Listen to a microphone remotely

Is there a way to listen remotely to a microphone located on a another computer?

I don't want to do a remote desktop connection with sound support, nor to connect to a webcam using some client (Java, Flash, ...). Only the sound should be sent from the remote PC to my local PC?

Any idea for such a tool? It should run on Windows: server side on Windows 7, client side on various Windows (mostly XP).

How do I listen to my microphone through my speakers in Windows 7?

I've looked around for the answer, and before you say it, I've used the "Listen to this device" feature built into Windows. The issue is that I have a USB microphone and there is a second delay before when it plays on the speakers, literally making me go quiet because my brain doesn't work too well hearing myself a second after I say something.

I use Realtek Audio, so it works differently from the Creative sound cards. There is no "What You Hear" or "Line In" levels. It's just "Speakers" and "Microphone".

Is there software that I can use that will not have a delay? I want to wear nice headphones and still hear myself.

Bad sound quality of 3.5mm headphone with mic on laptop

I have a set of headphones that have a built-in mic for hands-free calling. They work great on my Sony Ericsson Cedar cellphone.

The problem is that when I connect headphone to my Dell N5010 laptop to listen to music, the quality is horrible, with very weak or no vocals.

When I hold down the talk button on the mic, however, it changes: the quality goes up. When I let go, it goes back to sounding bad. When I adjust the jack by pulling it out and moving it around, the quality goes back up, but I have to hold the jack in place.

I've looked for a way to configure the sound card but found nothing.

Is there a solution besides gluing down the talk button on the mic?

Combine Multiple Audio Files into a single higher-quality audio File

BACKGROUND

  • My team gave a demo to a large audience - we recorded the audio of the demo in multiple locations in the room (3)
  • the audio was recorded using cheap laptop microphones
  • I was not involved in the recording of the audio or the demo
  • Both audio files suck in some form
  • the first one is of a recording near the speaker - which clearly gets his voice but the the audience is muffled - also this one is slightly noisy
  • The second recording was done in the middle of the audience - it gets the audience questions clearly but actually gets the speaker rather sometimes well and sometimes poorly (not all the speakers spoke loudly enough to be heard)

MY QUESTION

  • Is there any techinque or software which can be used to merge these audio files in such a way that the best qualities of each are preserved.
  • I am NOT asking now to simply merge them together in one track - I've already done that in Audacity and it is certainly better - what I am looking for could be considered closer to how HDR images are created - multiple exposures combined into an enhanced new version which is not simply an average of the inputs.

NOTE

  • Am not an "Audio" guy - just a normal user

Can Windows use headsets that have a single audio jack with 4 rings?

As you guys may know, for several years now, Apple uses 4-ring headphone jacks instead of 3-ring headphone jacks, and the fourth ring is dedicated to microphone input. This is what lets you have headphones that also serve as a microphone on the iPhone (and probably most competing phones nowadays, too).

Image of a 4-ring jack.

Also for several years now, these jacks have been recognized by MacBook Pros so that you can connect this kind of headset on your computer and use its microphone.

However, even though my MacBook Pro on Mac OS X recognizes the microphone built into my headset (that has one of those 4-ring jacks), it seems that Windows 8.1 on Boot Camp doesn't register my headset as a microphone and instead insists on using only the built-in microphone. This is an issue when I'm playing games because the fan kicks in and annoys everyone voice chatting with me.

Is there a way to make Windows aware of the microphone integrated to my headset and using the fourth ring of the jack?

The device manager says that the headset is advertised by the 'Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 11)' audio controller.

How to record sounds directly from my soundcard?

I want to record a sound that comes from a program in my computer, directly from my soundcard, not using crappy microphone to record it!

I was able to do this easily on WinXP by choosing "what u hear" (yes, it really had "u" in it!) device from the recording options.

But on Win7 there is no such option anywhere, and generally i dont understand the Win7 sound options at all.

NOTE: This must be Windows 7 sound settings specific, i want to fool the computer to think that my computer audio is the microphone audio, so if i "speak" on skype, they would hear any song i play on my computer. Do not suggest skype specific programs either, i want this thing to work in EVERY program on my computer, just like it did on WinXP.

EDIT finally found the working driver: SB24_VTDRV_LB_1_04_0065A.exe

Installing a fake microphone on Windows Server

My application, that is running on Windows Server (which is an instance on Amazon EC2) requires Skype to be able to make phone calls. The server, of course, does not have a microphone installed and I don't need it to have one, because my application changes the input source to a wav file when the call is established. However, Skype has a strict rule that a microphone must be installed for a call to be made.

Thus I want to install a fake microphone that will trick Skype's configuration.

So far, I was able to start and run the Windows Sound service, which enabled all of the sound settings.

Any ideas are very welcome!
