I currently have the retina MacBook Pro running OS X lion and want to force the wireless card to only connect only to 5GHz networks.
Both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz have the same SSID so I can not pick which band the wireless card connects to.
Notes:
I live in a college dorm, so renaming networks is not an option.
They do not have 2 different names in the preferred networks list.
The network also needs a 802.1X profile to connect to the network. (I can modify it if needed)
The security is TTLS with PAP.

I needed to resize my Boot Camp partition so I used Gparted to move and resize it. This seemed to work, except that now I can't boot into Windows.
I can boot into OS X just fine. OS X can recognize the Boot Camp partition and view its contents. When I try to reboot into Windows, however I get the message:
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
The only solutions I've been able to find online suggest that the only way to fix this is to either clone the drive or remove the Windows partition and re-install it.
Is there any way to fix my Windows partition so that I don't have to reinstall Windows again?

I recently did the Optibay mod on my 13" Macbook Pro, the stock magnetic drives now lives where the optical drive used to be. And an SSD has taken its place.
It's all good, but power consumption seems to have shot up as a consequence. I have tried various things but can't seem to get over this. I was contemplating unmounting the drive at boot time and manually mounting it when I need to use it (its a data/backup drive so only used occasionally) but I'm not sure this will work.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

I know that with OS X Lion (10.7) and Mountain Lion (10.8) applications can be assigned to specific Spaces/Desktops. With my laptop I daily connect and disconnect from an external monitor. When I disconnect, all my app windows are automatically gathered to the laptop monitor, of course.
When I reconnect to the external monitor, I manually move my app windows back to the second screen. Is there some functionality that is built into OS X that would automatically restore those application windows back to where they were previously?

Every time I plug my MagSafe 2 power supply into an power outlet, this Mac's aluminum body gives me a mild vibrating sensation and sometimes an electric shock. After searching for info about my problem on many forums, they believe there's some problem with my grounding.
My country's electricity is about 220v. If I plug it into a 110v power outlet should it solve the problem?
I'm not an electrician so I don't really know what to do.

On Macbook Pro, F5 and F6 seems to be the "keyboard illumination keys".
However, the keyboard's illumination doesn't seem to change at all after pressing those keys.
Also, I noticed a small "no entry" sign whenever I hit those keys, how do we fix these problems?

I need to use the right Ctrl key in a certain application, but my keyboard doesn't have one.
The left Ctrl key has an entirely different function in this case. How can I emulate the right Ctrl key, for example by pressing the right Alt button?
I tried the “Right Option acts as Control” feature of DoubleCommand, but sadly, that causes the right Alt key to emulate the left Ctrl key instead of the right Ctrl. Aaargh!
Any ideas?

I've tried opening the Maps program a dozen times. Sometimes it asks for location authorization, but it never goes past the Maps logo screen.

I don't care if this is done in the bios or a kernel module or software. Is there any way at all to do make the 'fn' key act as 'control' and the 'control' key act as 'fn' in linux running on a macbook pro?
PS. You can do this with software in OSX with the application KeyRemap4MacBook.

I've got a MacBookPro (no external keyboard, just the built-in laptop keyboard) and I'm running Virtual Box. My virtual machine is Windows XP and I'd like to capture an image of a window (or the whole screen if that's easier). It's not obvious to me how to express Alt-PrtScr` to the Windows XP VM with my MacBook Pro keyboard. I have Virtual Box Guest Additions installed.

On a Macbook Pro keyboard, how do you go the the end-of-line and beginning-of-line in Terminal.app?
Note that Ctrl-a and Ctrl-e on this computer with default configuration does not work. They just echo "^A" and "^E"....

I have installed Windows 7 on MacBook Pro using BootCamp. Usually when turning my Bluetooth headset on and trying to pair it with Mac for the first time, Windows fails to install the drivers and opens a solution in Action Center, which suggests to download the driver from the Broadcom webpage. This used to work for me before, drivers were installed and everything worked well. However now, when I start the driver installer, it would get stuck at "Detecting Bluetooth Device" stage. There is also a warning with text, which says "Please plug in or turn on your Bluetooth device":
I have tried turning my headset on/off, bringing it into pairing mode, installing/uninstalling device to/from the Bluetooth Devices. None of these worked. Any ideas?

I own a MBP 13" mid 2009 running Snow Leopard. Now, I just bought Mountain Lion and haven't installed it yet. I am planning to get a new SSD to replace my optical drive.
Here's the process that I think is the most practical:
- Installing Mountain Lion on my HDD
- When the SSD arrives, I'll replace it with the HDD
- Now what? (something with the disk utility)
- Install Mountain Lion on the SSD
- Replace the optical drive with the HDD
- Backup all the HDD stuff except "System" folder - Is that right? How should I back up it?
- Reformat the drive
- Copy the data I backed-up back to the HDD
- Move "Applications" app to the SSD - Again, is that right? What about the "Application Support" folder?
Now to questions:
- See above: Number 6 question
- I read that I need to run disk utility before installing the DVD on the new SSD, how and why?
- Is it legal to install it on my current HDD, then install it on the SSD and remove it from the HDD?
- How can I move all my Apps to the new SSD?
- Do I need to move Library to the SSD also? If not, how will I configure that all the apps need to use the Library folder from the HDD?
- Will I have to re-install applications?

I can't seem to get the trackpad to work on my MacBook Pro. I have tried the Boot Camp drivers with no luck.
Does anybody know what drivers are needed for Windows 8 and a MacBook Pro trackpad?
EDIT: With Windows being out for a while now, anybody got a solution to this problem yet?
