I'm using Windows 10 Home. I don't have the option to sleep / restart / shutdown from the lock screen. There are multiple users on this computer.
I just want this button, can't figure out where to enable it!
Mine only has the 2 buttons for "Network" and "Ease of Access". Power button is missing.

I am using Windows Spotlight on the lock screen of my Windows 10 laptop, and I have accidently liked some photos, and the keep coming up. is there a way to 'change your mind' about a photo, or just reset the whole thing?

In 2000/XP/Vista it was easy to set a wallpaper for the logon screen, either manually through tools like Logonstudio or simple registry changes by hand on prepared installation images or through custom group policies.
In Windows 7 all this works as usual, but the secondary (or any additional) monitor is just black. The mouse pointer is visible on it but no matter what settings I can't get the logon wallpaper to tile (or stretch or fill or whatever) over onto it.
This makes it hard to OEM/company brand the installation for multi-monitor users. More annoying is the fact that it looks officially supported to brand the logon wallpaper in Windows 7 - as it's made extremely easy... apart from this little catch. XP and Vista has no problem tiling or stretching the logon wallpaper over multiple monitors.

is it possible to lock the desktop in Windows 7 and have it continue to display your desktop wallpaper rather than the default Win7 locked-workstation screen?

If my laptop is connected to power source and is not configured to sleep on lid close (it is connected to power source and is working, I don't want it to sleep. It's compiling my code) if I close the lid, laptop will do nothing. This works as expected, but actually if I have my laptop connected to power source in the office it will be good to lock it if I close a lid. So no one can just open the lid and see my unlocked desktop.
I searched Google and it says that correct use case is to manually lock laptop via Win + L every time before lid is closed. This is OK, but not very secure - after all, I can forget Win + L.
Is there any easy way (maybe some registry value or app) to configure windows laptop so it will lock on lid close even without sleep? Of course I can write app/powershell script for this task, but this is not suitable for non-programmers end users.

So I took a plunge and installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my main home PC. So far so good, but there is one annoyance - the system "locks" the computer after a period of inactivity causing me to re-enter my password.
I really would like to avoid this, but have no idea how. I already tried the power settings (no pass on wake up) and the screen saver settings with no luck. Is this some sort of bug, or am I missing something?
P.S. In this case I favor convenience over security.

My Windows 10's time format is 24 hour clock, this includes the taskbar but the lock screen is still 12 hour clock format. How do I change the format of my time in lockscreen?

With Windows 7 (and XP) I could walk up to a locked PC (without Ctrl-Alt-Del requirement) and start typing my password, even with the screen off, and the keypresses would all be sent to the password field, meaning that by the time the screen was on I was at the desktop.
Same hardware, same scenario, but with Windows 10 it seems I have to press a key/mouse button, wait for a second or two before the password field is 'ready' before I can start to type the password.
This is annoying after many years of being able to unlock a PC in the same, quick way.
I've looked through the mish-mash of new Windows 10 and legacy option dialogs but can't seem to find anything that might affect this behaviour.
Is there any way round it?

I'm running Windows 8 Enterprise x64 (RTM), and I cannot figure out how to disable to the lock screen that appears after the computer has been idle for 10-15 minutes.
I've tried the following, and none of them work:
1) Disabling Screen Saver "display logon screen" option.
2) Disabling the Power Plan "require a password" setting.
3) Changing the lock screen policy:
None of these disable the lock screen, it still appears after 10-15 minutes. The only setting that has any affect at all is changing the policy (#3 above), but it merely disables the Welcome Screen image (the one that you click/drag/type on to get to the lock screen). But you still end up at the lock screen and have to re-enter your password.
Short of disabling the user login completely, is there any way to disable the lock-on-idle setting in Windows 8?

How can I change the lock screen in Windows 8 that appears after connecting to the machine via RDP?
You can change your lock screen for your user account like so:
- Hit the Windows key.
- Right click your user name in the upper right hand corner, choose Change Account Picture.
- Click Lock Screen, choose a new picture.
However, if you then connect to the computer where you've done this from another computer via RDP, using the same account, the physical machine you've connected to will display the "default" user lock screen - a stylized Space Needle / Seattle picture. It's not a bad picture, but I'd like to change it.

In Windows 8.0 there was an option in "Change PC settings" (the metro-style modern mode settings) to lock the screen after the screen has been off a certain amount of time. If you turn the screen on before the time expires, you could simply swipe up without requiring a password.
But now in Windows 8.1 (6.3, Build 9600) I can't find this feature. How do you do this in Windows 8.1?
I've seen that changing the power settings to "Balanced" has pseudo-enabled this functionality. The screen turns off, and turning it back on does not require a password until some further time after the screen has been off. I believe this is because the screen timeout is sooner than the sleep timeout, and so the password is required after sleeping only.
My ideal functionality would be that a password is not required until some specified timeout even if the machine has gone to sleep. This would make the power button tons more useful.

The Windows 10 "anniversary update" is coming out tomorrow and according to some reports the group policy to disable the lock screen is no longer effective on anything below the Enterprise edition. I'd like to know what options/workarounds are left to disable this nonsense on Pro editions.

While seeking a solution to my login background question I realized that the lockscreen has to be configured seperately. But how? On a quick google search I only found the suggestion to replace the images in the Adwaita theme. Is there a better way?

This must be something basic, but I was unable to find a solution.
The keyboard keypress is not detected when Windows is in the idle lock screen. I need to click with the mouse on screen to display the password textbox. If I lock the computer (eg: Windows+L) if I press any key, the textbox appear, as expected. How can I fix that?
How can we login without mouse after an idle lock?
