last.fm interview questions

I like looking at the library of my friends, but most of the artists that we have in our library are the same. Is there a possibility to get a list of artists that are not in my library? Or even a list of recommended artists, based on another user's library?
I am looking for this function, but I can't find a button on the profile pages of other users.

how does last.fm free music player retrieve the tracks from last.fm server? isn't it restricted? i mean even the last.fm radio is not gratis let alone streaming tracks. or maybe it is using last.fm to just for the track names and streaming them from other services like grooveshark?

As far as I understand, last.fm no longer lets me play music without Spotify. If that's wrong, how do I make sure it uses the classic web player? I also believe Spotify is closed source. If that's wrong, where can I get the code? If it's required and closed source, what are the options? I found countless scrobbling plugins and applications, but nothing to play the actual music. Is there any way to play last.fm radio using open source (or at least contained in a browser) on Linux?

It seems the selection on Youtube is not as large as the original Last.fm content and their own player. I keep hearing songs repeated after only a short time! How do I revert back to the old Last.fm player to hear a wider selection?

Let's say I want to find music on last.fm that is tagged with both trance
and new wave
.
Is this possible?
So far I can only figure out how to browse by single tag.

I might be insane, but a song played when I was listening to a neighborhood radio station. When I went to go look at my library later, the song showed up there. I don't own the song (or at least I didn't see it in my iTunes library under that name) and I don't think I've ever played it on my iPod or played it in iTunes or Windows Media Player from a friend's device. So I'm not sure why it would be there. Did I actually play it somewhere and have it scrobble or did listening to the song on the neighborhood radio add it to my library?

My scrobbling statistics contains tracks with both "Bruce Springsteen" and "Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band" as artists. I would like to unify those two as they essentially mean the same thing.

What's the best way to export a complete history of my last.fm scrobbles? The data seems to be there on the website so in theory it could be screen scraped if all else fails but is there an easier way?

Is there any easy way to convert a Last.fm playlist, such as this one, to a Spotify playlist? (One which would include, of course, those of the songs that are available on Spotify.)
You can export playlists from Last.fm as XSPF, but Spotify doesn't seem to directly support XSPF imports.

December 13, 2012, last.fm announced that they would be discontinuing their radio service in several countries on January 15, 2013, and that customers could request a subscription refund. I did so the very same day, because the radio service is 90% of the reason for buying it (the other being the event announcements). On January 16 the last.fm client could no longer play their radio, and I have still not heard a single word from them. Has anyone had more luck with this, and perhaps any tips to get through to them?

For audio while working I like last.fm:
- it's great for ambient, jazz, world, and instrumental/non-vocal generally
- it runs well on linux and in firefox (both of which I use)
- it's free in the US
However they recently switched to a YouTube-based player, which combines video and audio, increasing the service's bandwidth. Can the video bandwidth be reduced, ideally to zero? Some things I've tried that don't work completely:
- FlashBlock. With the old last.fm player I could FlashBlock the video portion of the player, but the new player will play neither audio nor video unless I whitelist youtube.com, in which case I get both the video and audio.
- YouTube player settings--i.e., the gear icon. This allows one to set video quality (e.g., 144p, 360p), so I tried just setting to the lowest quality/bandwidth=144p. This works for awhile, but seems to regularly reset itself to higher quality.
- YouTube account settings. I had hoped one could set the default video quality to, e.g., 144p. However, the best one can do is set "Never play higher-quality video" which seems to allow any setting below HD.

Is there any way to view your top artist/track stats between an arbitrary date range on last.fm (instead of being confined to "weekly snapshots")? I don't believe there is a way on the site itself, but is there any webapp implementing the last.fm API that allows you to do this?
