I have a class definition that contains a property that returns an interface.

Things I've tried after searching:
1) in Web.Config put a binding on the old version:

It succeeds on building, but gets the error when going to the site.

ok, so then I tried to reinstall like every nuget package, and it seems to have added back the 4.5 version of the newtonsoft.json.dll, but I'm getting the same error. My project's Target freamework is .NET 4.5.1 and here is the stack trace I'm getting now:

I created a new ASP.NET MVC 5 web project in VS 2013 (Update 1) then updated all NuGet packages. When I build the project, I get the following warning:
warning MSB3243: No way to resolve conflict between "Newtonsoft.Json, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=30ad4fe6b2a6aeed" and "Newtonsoft.Json, Version=4.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=30ad4fe6b2a6aeed".
When I check the web.config, however, I see that a binding redirect is in place:

I am trying to set up a reader that will take in JSON objects from various websites (think information scraping) and translate them into C# objects. I am currently using JSON.NET for the deserialization process. The problem I am running into is that it does not know how to handle interface-level properties in a class. So something of the nature:
public IThingy Thing
Will produce the error:
Could not create an instance of type IThingy. Type is an interface or abstract class and cannot be instantiated.
It is relatively important to have it be an IThingy as opposed to a Thingy since the code I am working on is considered sensitive and unit testing is highly important. Mocking of objects for atomic test scripts is not possible with fully-fledged objects like Thingy. They must be an interface.
I've been poring over JSON.NET's documentation for a while now, and the questions I could find on this site related to this are all from over a year ago. Any help?
Also, if it matters, my app is written in .NET 4.0.

I was originally trying to convert it into a Dictionary or something...and actually, I just need to snag a couple values in there so judging by the documentation, maybe Newtonsoft's Linq to JSON might be a better choice? Thoughts/Links?

Did some more reading and found Newtonsoft's Linq to JSON is exactly what I wanted...using WebClient, Stream, StreamReader, and Newtonsoft..I can hit Kazaa for JSON data, extract a URL, download the file, and do it all in like 7 lines of code! Love it

I'm trying to parse some JSON data from the Google AJAX Search API. I have this URL and I'd like to break it down so that the results are displayed. I've currently written this code, but I'm pretty lost in regards of what to do next, although there are a number of examples out there with simplified JSON strings.
Being new to C# and .NET in general I've struggled to get a genuine text output for my ASP.NET page so I've been recommended to give JSON.NET a try. Could anyone point me in the right direction to just simply writing some code that'll take in JSON from the Google AJAX Search API and print it out to the screen?

The code currently compiles and runs perfectly, but isn't returning any results. Could someone help me with returning what I require, the results ready to print out to the screen?

Json.NET works using the same JSON and classes as the example above.
GoogleSearchResults g1 = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<GoogleSearchResults>(json);

Is it possible to return a dynamic object from a json deserialization using json.net? I would like to do something like this:

The code inside the Server needs Newtonsoft.Json v6.0.3 to function.
When I rebuild all and run everything works fine, as expected.
I subsequently build just AppBase, without building Server. AppBase is dependent only on Base.
The binaries for AppBase and Base are "up-to-date", as expected.
However,
this is the important bit,
the building of AppBase causes the Newtonsoft.Json.dll in the "Server\bin" folder to be substituted for the earlier 4.5 version.
When I make a request to the Server, a "500 Intrernal Server Error" is returned due to the binding error caused by the incorrect Newtonsoft.Json dll version.
Why does building an assembly effect a non dependent assembly?
Has anybody else experienced this?
What is the best way to resolve this problem?

I made a new solution file, at first I thought this had resolved the problem.
However the problem had transferred to the System.Net.Http.Formatting.dll :-S
If I edit AppBase so it does not reference System.Web.Http the effect goes away.
Maybe this is something to do with the MVC stuff in Program Files? ...

I've posted a community wiki answer that details how I've worked around the problem. I thought somebody might find it useful. However, the workaround doesn't explain what mechanism is effecting Server when I build only AppBase and Base. Does this sound like a bug, it seems wrong?
