This seems like a really simple question but somehow my Google-Fu failed me.
What's the syntax for including functions from other files in Perl? I'm looking for something like C's #include "blah.h"
I saw the option for using Perl modules, but that seems like it'll require a not-insignificant rewrite of my current code.

I'm curious about the <merge> and <include> tags in Android XML-layouts. I've read two tutorials, but haven't yet found a simple example usage.
Would be happy if someone could provide such an example or give a pointer to one.

I've read Romain Guy's post on the <merge /> tag, but I still don't understand how it's useful. Is it a sort-of replacement of the <Frame /> tag, or is it used like so:
<merge xmlns:android="....">
<LinearLayout ...>
.
.
.
</LinearLayout>
</merge>
then <include /> the code in another file?

Just getting my head around Ruby metaprogramming... the mixin/modules always manage to confuse me.
- include : mixes in specified module methods as instance methods in the target class
- extend : mixes in specified module methods as class methods in the target class
So is the major difference just this or is a bigger dragon lurking?
e.g.

puts "Module Method: Hi there!"
end
end
class ClassThatIncludes
include ReusableModule
end
class ClassThatExtends
extend ReusableModule

puts "Include"

It seems that there are two methods for templating with JSP. Including files with one of these statements
<%@ include file="foo.html" %>
<jsp:include page="foo.html" />
or using JSP tag files
// Save this as mytag.tag
<%@ tag description="Description" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%>
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
<jsp:doBody/>
</body>
</html>
And in another JSP page call it with
<%@ taglib prefix="t" tagdir="/WEB-INF/tags" %>
<t:mytag>
<h1>Hello World</h1>
</t:mytag>
So which method should I use? Is one now considered deprecated or are they both valid and cover different use cases?

Isn't using this tag file the same as using an include?

That seems to me to be the very same as using an include and passing parameters to it. So are Tag Files the same as includes?

Is there a way to include an entire text file as a string in a C program at compile-time?
something like:
file.txt:
This is
a little
text file
main.c:

int main(void) {

At the moment I used an hackish python script, but it's butt-ugly and limited to only one variable name, can you tell me another way to do it?

I have a php file which I will be using as exclusively as an include. Therefore I would like to throw an error instead of executing it when it's accessed directly by typing in the URL instead of being included.
Basically I need to do a check as follows in the php file:
if ( $REQUEST_URL == $URL_OF_CURRENT_PAGE ) die ("Direct access not premitted");
Is there an easy way to do this?

I have been trying for a few days now to make my layouts more efficient by converting from using several levels of nested LinearLayouts to one RelativeLayout and have come across a few problems that I haven not been able to find a workaround for...
I have searched the Android beginners group and this site and have not been able to find anything that would help me solve the problem.
I read on one of the blogs that you can combine layouts with merge and include tags. So what I have is a main layout file with a RelativeLayout root element. Inside of that I have 5 include tags that reference 5 different xml layout files that each have a merge element for the root (all of my merge files are the same except for the ids in them).
I am running into two problems, which I will explain after posting a simplified version of my layout code:

I am running into two problems:
1) The android:layout_* attributes seem to be ignored when used in the include tag and all of the merged layouts are displayed on top of each other. According to this post (http://developer.android.com/resources/articles/layout-tricks-reuse.html) "any android:layout_* attribute can be used with the <include /> tag"
2) Since I couldn't get this working I decided to try adding an android:layout_below attribute to the first TextView item in each merge layout file, meaning that each merge file would be referencing an id from another merge layout file... For the most part this actually worked and my layout looks fine. However, I get an error on one of the android:layout_below attributes saying that it can't find the id I specified... I have double and triple checked the ids to make sure they were correct. The weirdest part is that I used the AutoFill feature to put the id in the attribute in the first place.
If anyone has any suggestions or workarounds I will be more than happy to try them out. Also, if anyone can think of a way for me to just have one merge xml layout file instead of 5 that would be greatly appreciated. I couldn't find a way to do that because I need to have access to each item in the merge layout files at runtime...
