Is there any way to connect to a Windows 7 homegroup from a Mac running Snow Leopard? The computers show up in my Finder on the left side as PCs, but when I try to connect I don't see anything. Any help would be appreciated!

I've got a homegroup set up, and only the accounts/machines where the user and password is identical can see/share files. I thought the setting to let homegroup control the accounts would make that requirement unnecessary....am I missing something?
To be clear: I can see the other machines/user accounts in my homegroup listing, but I can't see any of the files in their shared libraries.

My router (Belkin N1 Vision) seem to only support IPv4. The problem is that i'm trying to get Windows 7 Homegroup going and it requires IPv6. I'm trying to connect home computer which is connected to router via cable and laptop which uses wifi.
Is there any way to work around this issue? Set up some tunneling? There must be an easy way cause otherwise Microsoft new "easy" home networking would fail on most of the home setups.

Last night a Windows update on my Windows 7 machine added a new "Homegroup" icon to my desktop.
I don't want the icon on my desktop but can't see any way to get rid of it.
It's not listed in the desktop icons under personalisation settings and it's not a regular shortcut so can't be deleted in the usual manner. The context (right click) menu also provides no suitable option.
Any ideas?

I have a desktop and a laptop (both running windows 7) in my Windows 7 homegroup. The desktop created the homegroup, and the laptop joined it. Both share a few folders.
On the laptop, I have no problem accessing the Desktop's shared folders via the "Homegroup" sidebar button in Windows Explorer.
However, on the Desktop, I get the message No other homegroup computers are currently available in the homegroup screen. However, if I go to the Network page, I can see the other computer and browse its shared media. These shares were made by right clicking and choosing "Share with Homegroup".
I can access the media, so this isn't a big problem, but I'm just confused as to why the Homegroup screen denies the existence of the other computer. Has anybody else encountered and resolved this?
It occurs to me that the homegroup stuff uses IPv6, I think, and so perhaps some networking gear isn't working correctly in between. I don't have this setup anymore, so I can't verify that hunch.

I never used homegroups. Now, when I enter HomeGroup control panel page, I see that somebody has created homegroup on the network. User name and computer name displayed. I don't know who is this. I don't know such a computer. I am at home and I know all computers here. No one has this name.
How to create my own homegroup?
How to delete this parasitic homegroup? Windows manual says that everybody should leave a group then it will disappear. In my case there is no one in the group (mystic person only). How to delete a group?

Also I can't join this group. System asks a password from me. But I don't know it. And I can't ask it from that person because he does not exist.

I have no Create a homegroup button. It is replaced with Join Now button, since group is treated as existing.

This is probably notebook I was taking from my friend long time ago. Notebook is already gone and no access to it. Most probably it was connected to my home WiFi.
Probably I clickded "create home group" on that notebook. So what? It infected my network forever?

My fault. This was a computer from VPN I participating. Anyway it is strange that computer can participate multiple LANs while homegroup can be only one.

I am trying to create a Homegroup through my wifi network between my
- PC (Windows 7) and
- Office Laptop (Windows 8)
When I create a Homegroup network using my PC then I can see all shared files in my laptop but I can't see shared files and even laptop name on my PC.
When I created a Homegroup from my Laptop, I can't see that there is a Homegroup available on my PC.
When I checked control panel -> windows firewall in my office laptop, I saw this image.
I can't even click any of the links in the above form page due to lack of admin privileges.
What could be the problem?
Is it because I don't have admin privileges to my office laptop?
EDIT: I talked with my office admin. He said that there might be problem with my Home PC. He checked my laptop and said there is nothing which is blocking. I checked my home PC, everything looks fine. please give me some points on assumption which might help me to solve this issue. also I can provide more info if needed.
EDIT 2: Just trying provide brief information. From office laptop, I can access already shared common folders like "My pictures", "My videos", "My Documents" etc.. of other Home PC but can't access the folders which I am sharing for example, I have one folder on Home PC which has movies in it. when I right clicked it and said shared in home group (can read/write), I can't access it. I can see that folder from my laptop but I can't access it. there is a error like - "you don't have enough permissions".
From my Home PC, I can't even see my office laptop name in home group.
One of the users in super user chat has told me to do following:
Don't even think about a home group; you are way overcomplicating this... just turn on shared folder for your user account (or for a whole drive) on the computer you're able to ping from the other computer, then type in Windows Explorer: \1.2.3.4\ShareName where 1.2.3.4 is the IP address assigned to the internal NIC of your other computer and ShareName is the name given to the shared folder/drive
it's not rocket science.. you don't need something called a home group to get folder sharing working
those damn things almost never work anyway because the security settings are always so locked down that it won't let it work

Well I've been trying quite a lot of things, it worked to connect through my other laptop which is not given by my school so there's nothing wrong with the homegroup itself. But I need a way to connect this "domain owned laptop" into my homegroup. It has IPv6 working, all the services are started and I've also deleted idstore.sst without success.
EDIT: The error that comes up is "Windows cannot set up homegroup on this computer"

I have tried it with LAN cable and wireless connection and cannot make it work. I have tried creating HomeGroups on both laptops and joining from both but same scenario occurs.
On 1st laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) I get the following and no 2nd laptop (Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit) is visible:
On 2nd laptop I get the following but when clicking on folders, nothing happens but click sound:
Trying to share public folders or libraries with HomeGroup on 1st laptop (read or read/write) does not do anything, but trying same on 2nd laptop shows this:
What is wrong here? Documents and Pictures folders are shared. All sharing is turned on on both laptops and all connection is set as Home Network which is requirement of HomeGroup:
Here is related problem I currently have and I do not know which should be resolved first.
UPDATE: I just looked at My Computer > System Properties > Computer Name and found out that both laptops are members of WORKGROUP but not Domain. Is that okay? What if I change both to be members of domain?
Also only 2nd laptop has Network ID accessible where I can do the following:
UPDATE 2: Tried connecting user accounts to Windows Live on both laptops to no avail. Tried Safe-Mode With Networking and clean boot to no avail. Tried making Internet Connection Sharing through one of laptops to no avail. Tried obtaining custom IPs to no avail. LAN or wireless network - nothing worked whatsoever, meaning router is not a problem and it seems I am not the only one. Let's hope time will come when Microsoft fixes issue.

Just wondering what the security implications are of running Windows 7 HomeGroup over an unsecured (open) WiFi network.
Are there known hacks on the HomeGroup password or is it possible to otherwise break in to HomeGroup files, resources, printers, and computers without knowing the password?
Can someone "sniff" the files that are being shared?
My gut tells me that there's no encryption of HomeGroup traffic, but I don't know for sure.

I have some troubles with homegroup's feature using two windows 7 64-bit based devices (laptop and desktop).
Desktop is connected via LAN cable and the laptop via WiFi. Both use the same subnet and working group (by default - WORKGROUP). I am able to ping the laptop from the desktop and vice versa.
On the desktop I created a homegroup, and have successfully connected the laptop to it.
I can view all shared folder on remote machine, but for some reason I can't access them.
When I share a folder on the laptop or desktop (using the sharing wizard) I can't access it from another computer in the homegroup (I think it is due to NTFS permissions). When I double-click on shared folder I get an "access denied" message.
I tried to add an NTFS permission to the folder for "All users" (read, listen, execute), and then I can access it - but this is not solution of problem.
I think that windows can't identify connecting device from homegroup as a member of "HomeUsers" group. But why it can't - I don't understand.

When I try to print from my ThinkPad to a printer shared through a Windows 7 Homegroup hosted by a desktop computer, I often have to restart the Print Spooler service several times before the job will go through. In particular, this problem occurs when the desktop is in sleep mode when the print job is started and then brought out of sleep mode after the print job has been kicked off.
Both computers are running Windows 7 32-bit edition with the latest patches.

I just got a new laptop with Windows 7 and thought that instead of trying to recover my music from my iPhone, I would just use the Homegroup I have set up to transfer the music from my old laptop. Well, I did that, but now iTunes has decided that all of my apps, but only 3 of my songs (out of the 70-80 that I've purchased) cannot be transferred to my iPhone (even though they're already there) because I'm not authorized.
It will prompt me to log in and authorize the computer (which I had already done).
Once I log in, it will just tell me I've already authorized this computer.
Then if I go and try to play the song, it will just prompt me to authorize it again.
I've searched Google and tried pretty much everything I could find. I've tried:
- deauthorizing -> logging out ->
logging in -> reauthorizing
- Reinstalling iTunes
- Deleting the SC Info file
I've got 15 GB's worth of music, which doesn't transfer swiftly. So before doing anything drastic with my music collection, I thought I'd ask around here and see if anyone else had had similar issues, and hopefully found a fix.

If you join a Homegroup from a Windows 8 machine, you are prompted for a password. This password is subsequently visible whenever you enter the homegroup settings:
