What are good noise reducing earphones for use with a PC? [closed]

I need a pair of noise reducing earphones (you know, the small ones, that you put inside your ear) what will work with my PC and that I can carry around with me to work and back.

No sound in headphones (Windows 10)

I recently upgraded my Asus P500CA laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The upgrade process went fine, however, no sound is coming through my headphones even though there is sound coming out from the laptop's built-in speakers.

Symptoms/what I already tried:

• I hear sound from my computer, but when I plug in the headphones, the sound stops which means they get detected in a way.
• The headphones don't appear in Sound (control panel) so I'm not able to select them.
  • I have enabled "Show disabled devices" in Sound, however, nothing changes.
• I have updated all sound-related drivers in Device Manager (if I try to update driver software again, Windows says it is already up-to-date).
• I have tried 2 different sets of headphones and neither of them work.
• I have a dual-boot, and from the other OS, I can hear the sound coming out of the headphones, which means the jack isn't damaged in any way.

I really don't know what the problem could be - I tried searching online but without any success. Does anybody know what else I could try?

How can I set sound to mute by default, but automatically "un-mute" when I plug in headphones in Windows 7?

I want my Windows 7 machine to autmatically un-mute when I plug in headphones, and then return to mute when i unplug them.

Graphics card causing interference in Headphones

On my computer, when I plug my headphones into my rear headphone port I get great sound quality but when using the more accessible front panel headphone port I get a lot of interference.

After a bit of tinkering I found that the interference is caused by the cable from the front panel to the motherboard going right next to the graphics card. When the graphics card is under any kind of load (like even moving windows around) it causes interference in my headphones.

It's hard to move the cable right away from the graphics card as it goes from the bottom back of the motherboard to the top front of the case and doesn't have much slack. So is there any way to shield the cable from this type of interference?

Anyone know of a program that will mute sound if my headphones are removed?

It really annoys me when my headphones get pulled out and my sound blasts through the speakers. I'd like it to just automatically mute. Does any software exist that will do this?

I'm running Windows 7, BTW.

Are Noise-Canceling headphones effective? [closed]

I work in a pretty noisy environment, lots of noise near me like the TV and people yelling and talking in really loud voices. It makes it really hard to concentrate and since I can't really move my PC to another part of the house I was thinking of getting a decent pair of noise-canceling headphones. I've never owned or used a pair before so I wanted to ask, do they block outside noise completely? As in, I'll hear nothing but silence as long as I'm wearing them?

Can a (notebook) hard drive be affected by magnets, such as those in a headphone or a cell phone'?

I would like to carry the notebook computer around, together with the ear-bud headphones and the cell phone. But since ear-bud headphones have magnets into it, can't it affect the notebook's hard drive?

I think cellphone is more common for people to carry around with their notebook, except cellphone is usually in the pants' pocket or on the belt on the waist...

Windows 8.1 Does not Detect Bluetooth Headset

I have the Motorola S11 Flex HD wireless Bluetooth headset which I have had connected to a Windows 8.1 Pro x64 machine with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 + Bluetooth for Desktop card. This worked great for two months, then stopped the other day whenever I unplugged the machine to move it.

Any ideas on how to correct this?

What I Know

• The Bluetooth hardware in the machine is not loose from transportation, as I opened up the machine ensured all connections were tight after transport.
• The headset connects to and sounds great when connected to other devices.
• The machine will eventually discover but often drop connections to other Bluetooth devices.
• The headset works fine whenever I dual boot into Ubuntu on the same machine.

What I've Tried

1. Updating the Intel Bluetooth drivers.
2. Removing all Bluetooth devices from the Device Manager. This includes uninstalling any associated drivers.
3. Remove the Microsoft Bluetooth stack. This was short lived, as I had to restore the registry after it went corrupt from this.
4. Ensured all Bluetooth services are running.
5. Updated Windows with the latest updates.

Here is what Happened

1. The device would connect after many tries with poor sound quality.
2. The Windows Bluetooth interface would always fail to remove the paired headset.
3. Uninstalled via Device Manager.
4. Scanning for hardware changes always brings the powered off/disconnected headset back again.
5. Devices and Printers screen now displays a generic audio icon, instead of the headset's icon.
6. Does not work at all now.

Can the volume change when I plug in headphones?

I want the volume to change when I plug in headphones, because my netbook's speakers are really quiet but the earbuds I have are really loud when I plug them in. I'm running Ubuntu Lucid Netbook Edition on an Asus eeePC 1005HA, if that's important.

Laptop audio only in one side of headphone/earphone

I plugged in a pair of earphones into my laptop’s audio jack and the audio is only coming from one side. Here are the tests and results I tried:

• Tried a different set of headphones with the same results.
• Tried both in another device and the audio came through both sides.
• Made sure that the connector was plugged all the way into the jack.
• Checked the audio balance: it is set to the middle.
• Unplugged the headphones and the audio was normal through the built-in speakers.

Is the audio jack on my laptop defective?

Bluetooth headphones: great quality on iPhone, poor quality on notebook and PC

I recently got a new pair of Sony MDR-1RBT Bluetooth headphones. On my iPhone 4, they sound fantastic. But when I try to use them on my Windows PC or 2010 Macbook Pro, the sound quality drops substantially. I'm pretty sure they're still using the A2DP profile, but they sound like FM radio, or like an MP3 encoded at 64kbps. (I don't think they're pairing in headset mode.) On OSX, many people have recommended changing the "bitpool" setting, but this didn't help me much. There's also maybe a second of lag, so gaming is out of the question.

I remember having these sorts of problem with Bluetooth 5 years ago, and I'm shocked that they still haven't been fixed. Am I missing something? Why does my dinkly little iPhone play wireless audio so well while my powerhouse computers do not? Is this adaptor dependent? Can I just force Bluetooth to send the highest quality stream possible at the expense of latency?

iPhone headsets have both microphone and headphone functionality using 1 jack. However, my computer has two jacks for two different things: Microphone and headphones. How can I use it for both on my computer?

How can I configure dual headphones under Windows 7?

Some laptops - in particular my Dell Studio XPS - have two headphone ports.

Under Windows 7 currently the last pair of headphones plugged in begins to accept the output.

Is there something special that needs to be configured to allow both headphones to operate simultaneously?

What I have tried:

• Setting both as "default" - not an option (can't multi-select).
• Toggling the "default" - it just switches the active headphone.
• Toggling disable and enable - didn't help.

How do I adjust the Windows 7 volume control over a smaller range?

I am currently using the Microsoft High Definition Audio driver provided with Windows 7 rather than the Realtek driver. When playing sound through my computer speakers (plugged into the rear panel jack), I set the volume control to 80. However, my headphones (plugged into the front panel jack) require a volume setting of at most 4.

Windows will remember this setting when I plug/unplug the headphones, but the design of the volume control makes fine-grained volume control impossible (making me wish I had the "Wave/PCM" slider from Windows XP/Linux). Even a volume setting of zero results in clearly audible sound. Is there a way to "zoom in" on the lower part of the volume slider to better control the sound level from my headphones?

Sound quality in bluetooth headphones doesn't change to high

My Bluetooth headset Philips SHB6610 has several profiles. It can work as low-quality sound headset (HFP) and high-quality sound headphones (A2DP). Typically whenever I start to play the music in my favorite media player (Winamp) it switches automatically in high quality. If I receive a call on Skype it switches to low-quality. Even if I am listening to music in the background, once call is finished, it falls back on high quality again.

However, from time to time, it happens that I connect headphones to the computer and they stay in low-quality mode even if I am not in a call. Can I enforce profile manually somehow? How to do this?

The only thing that helps (but not always) is re-pairing of headphones with PC. I am using Windows 7 on Toshiba Satellite Pro P300-1CG laptop, with Belkin Mini Bluetooth Adapter.

Edit: Now I can not keep connection active at all unless I keep Bluetooth device window open. Once I close the window connection breaks.
