How does Google Books detect unusual traffic from a computer?

From https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/86640

You may see "Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network" if Google detects that a computer or phone on your network may be sending automated traffic to Google.

Automated traffic includes:

Sending searches from a robot, computer program, automated service, or search scraper Using software that sends searches to Google to see how a website or webpage ranks on Google

When this happens in Google Books, what are some possible criterions that Google Books or similar sites can use to detect that a compute may be sending automated traffic to their sites?

Print a Google Books preview direct to a printer and not to PDF or as a file

How do I print a preview in Google Books straight to the printer and not to file or saved as a PDF?

My younger brother is researching English literature and asked me how to print a book preview from Google Books. He doesn't want it to be saved or printed to a digital file format and instead want a hard copy paper print.

Where do I go to print these previews?

UPDATE 1: My younger brother and I tried to download the book preview but that seems to be impossible, my younger brother even tried to copy paste the text from that pdf book to MS Word but that didn't work. I asked my younger brother to copy paste that book preview link to me so that I can paste it here, I'll give this question bounty, hopefully someone will give us a better solution alternative for this.

UPDATE 2: This is the link that he needs to print some pages from it.

Fix Google showing different language because of hyperlink options

If I click on a link like https://books.google.it/books?id=_b8NAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA317&dq=%22dutch%20defence%22&hl=it&sa=X&ved=0CFMQ6AEwB2oVChMIlvGX3cb1xgIVAlkUCh0C-ApT#v=onepage&q=%22dutch%20defence%22&f=false , the page displays info in Italian, presumably because of query string containing hl=it. Apart from manually editing the URL to have hl=en, which feels like a hacky approach to me, how can I make it display in my default language?

Google books preview not available

Edit: problem solved by @Sathya in comments. It suffices to replace all instances of 358 by 97 in the wrong link that was given to me. I am still curious why such a link makes the page available, while it is not (for me) if I simply go to the preview directly, or if I scroll to page 97 after I have followed the wrong 358 link.

Recently, I followed a link to a Google Books preview where the page was not available in my case, while it was for the person who had shared the link.

I was advised to refresh my browser, clear the cookies, try another browser. I did all that and tried with Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. No success.

Then I was advised to use stealthy extension, in case it was a location problem, as I am in Canada. It did not work either.

Here is the link I was provided. Note that the page I was supposed to reach was page 97. And not the page 358, which I can see. So I scrolled up to page 97, and it was not visible for me, while the link provider claims page 97 was visible for him.

Could you tell me what the possible reason is?

Google Play books missing table of contents for PDF uploads

I have uploaded several books (PDFs) using the Google Play Books Upload service. However, I found out that none of these show a "table of content" bookmark normally found in PDFs. (I see a valid TOC when I use another reader.)

Can someone please confirm if Google Play Books supports "table of contents" for uploaded PDFs?

Finding search query of Google Books results

Googling myself I found a match for a surprising book, the Danish 'Konkurrencestaten', but no quotation is given for the search string. I find it only with Danish as the language setting. With English I do not see 'Konkurrencestaten' in the search results. For English I do see a number of other books that I believe I am NOT mentioned in.

Is Google Books returning items where a search string does not appear?

Some of the results seem to be a retrieval from a semantic search-like system based on text on the Internet. Is that correct? Are there any means to switch it off or see where or why Google Books matches a search string?

How long does Google Books keep the limit on the pages viewed?

When reading a book on Google Books, I reached the limit of number of previewable pages viewed. How long should I wait before the restriction is lifted so that I can view other previewable pages that I haven't read? Thanks.

How to check if a Google Books item is in the public domain without API?

I know the Google Books API, but if for whatever reason I can't access it, how do I check whether a book is in the public domain?

For whatever reason, Google doesn't think this is an information worth of the information pages or of the advanced book search.

To what extent does Google limit page views in Google Books?

I suspect it varies between publishers, but is it known to what extent Google limits page views in Google Books? Rough estimates are fine.

Search in the books of one's own library

In Google Books, we can search for some keywords among the books.

In Google Books and Google Play, we can add books into our libraries.

Can we search within the books in our libraries?

How can I copy-paste segments from Google Books?

For instance, this google search returns a couple of sentences from the book I am interested in. I can then go and copy-paste those sentences into another document. However, I would like to copy-paste a few paragraphs surrounding these sentences. What's the most convenient way to do that?

Google Drive track furthest read page in a PDF, or have selectable text in uploaded Google Books?

Is there a way to automatically track the furtherest read page of a PDF in in Google Docs?

I have some large text books and other technical reading I'm working through slowly. I've uploaded them to Google Books, which keeps track of the last page, which is conveinent, but Google Books does not let me select text from the books (like code examples I want to copy and paste to Python, etc).

Google Docs allows me to select text from these documents, but doesn't remember where I was last time I opened it. Sometimes the books are very large and it's easy to forget where you were.

Is there a way to solve either of these two problems? Is there a solution that doesn't include Google Books or Docs (Kindle won't work b/c you can't view documents you've uploaded in the web browser...)

How do I get to a Book's main page without having to manually modify the URL?

Say I search for a book on Google Books and then click through to it. If I copy that URL and send it to someone, they will be taken to the same page for the book, but the URL also contains a bunch of other metadata such as the search terms I used. Note: the actual URL contains way more data than this, but here's a simple example:

http://books.google.com/books?id=4WsAENDgwVYC&printsec=frontcover&dq=alice+in+wonderland

If you click through to that, you will see that the search field is already populated with search terms. What I want to do is get the main link to the book without any parameters or other settings already filled in. For example:

http://books.google.com/books?id=4WsAENDgwVYC

If you follow that link, you are taken to the page of the book with nothing already filled in. I manually deleted all the parameters after the id attribute. I'm wondering how I would get to this page without having to manually modify the URL attribute (i.e. some way via the GUI). A GUI solution is better because then you don't have to manually find the id attribute in the URL, and it means that Google is more likely to continue supporting the GUI's URL in the future.

The reason I'm asking is because usually when you copy a webpage's URL, all you want is the actual URL of the page, you don't want a list of all the search terms you used to get to that page. That's why I'm confused as to why this option isn't easily accessible on Google Books.

Is it possible to have a true full-screen mode for Google Books?

When I press the "full-screen" button in Google Books, about a third of my vertical space is still taken up by various toolbars. This makes it extremely difficult to read efficiently. Is there any way to remove these toolbars in "full-screen" mode?
