Will FileZilla resume interrupted downloads?

I have to download a 15GB file from my client's system using FileZilla. However the download looks like it will take a very long time, more than one day.

Can I resume the download after restarting my system the next day?

Why does FileZilla ask for password every now and then?

I am downloading thousands of files over FTP using Filezilla. The download takes several hours, so I want to run it overnight, but there is a problem - Filezilla keeps re-asking the password every now and then - almost like every 10 minutes! Why? How to fix this?

I've enabled FileZilla to establish 2 simultaneous FTP connections. It is strange that FileZilla keeps re-asking for password, even if I have set Logontype to "Ask for password". Snip from the documentation:

Ask for password: FileZilla asks you the password during logon, and it remembers the password during the session.

Interactive: FileZilla asks for the password, and asks again for every new connection to the server.

This means that when I set "Ask for password", it shouldn't ask for every new connection to the server. Yet it does ask again and again...

The log just after Filezilla re-asks the password (with 1 simultaneous connection only the log looks exactly the same):

Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (81,31,47,235,239,66).
Command: RETR P034624.jpg

Error: Could not connect to server

Screenshot of the log right after Filezilla re-asks the password:

enter image description here

If I switch to Active mode, the download works without re-asking the password!!! (Tested with 1 simultaneous connection and Timeout = 0).

But, delete doesn't work - it will break the connection after like 400 deleted files in both active and passive mode, 1 sim. connection, timeout 0. This time it doesn't re-ask the password, it just stops. The log:

Command: DELE P025791.jpg
Response: 250 DELE command successful
Command: DELE P025792.jpg
Response: 250 DELE command successful
Command: DELE P025793.jpg
Error: GnuTLS error -53 in gnutls_record_send: Error in the push function.
Error: Could not write to socket: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted
Error: Disconnected from server

Conclusion

The above testing was done from my office, Windows 7, behind Zyxel P660HW-T3 FW/modem with more or less default settings. Switching to passive mode has helped here for downloading, for deleting no remedy found. When I tried from home, Windows XP, Filezilla 3.7.3 (current), behind Edimax BR6225N/BR6226N FW/modem, it both downloading and deleting went all OK even with default settings (timeout = 20, 2 sim. connections, passive mode)!!!

Edit: now I tried to delete the files from home, it was OK, then moved with my laptop to office (without closing Filezilla) and suddenly it was also OK! But yesterday from office the deletion stopped after almost 400 files. Interesting! Maybe it depends where I log in first?

FileZilla: Can I run a remote shell command via FileZilla client?

I have a very simple question. Can I run a remote shell command on the server via FileZilla client. For instance can I do a:

tar -zxvf myarchive.tar.gz

etc... (didn't think it was possible with plain FTP, was wondering about the other protocols offered by FileZilla).

Thanks.

FTP move files/folder on remote server in FileZilla

I have a folder on my server that I want to move to a different location on that same server.

I see that I can move a file/folder into a sibling folder, or up one folder, by dragging it over the "folder name"/"..", respectively.

How can I move the folder to a different folder located at a far distant place in the folder tree?

FileZilla times out when transferring large file

I have a file residing on a FTP site that I am trying to download. The FTP site is a secure site and requires a user name and password. The size of the file I am trying to download is 2.98GB. Part way through the transfer I get the error message:

Connection timed out
File transfer failed after transferring 501,407,504 bytes in 693 seconds

I have tried it a few times and it seems to timeout at different spots. If I click through the folder structure it seems to keep it from timing out. Is there anything I can do to stop it from timing out when downloading larger files?

Set Filezilla so that it view/edit by default instead of downloading

I'm working on Ubuntu and using FileZilla. I was wondering that when I doubleclick on a remote file, if it was possible to open it in an editor instead of downloading it. (Automatically View/Edit instead of Download option).

Ideas?

Filezilla: How to refresh a FTP folder automatically

I'm using Filezilla to check if new files arrived in different folder on a FTP. But I always have to do a refresh of the folder manually with F5.

When I click on a folder that I already clicked before, the refresh is not done.

How can I enable Filezilla to always update(refresh) a folder when I click it?

OSX Emacs FTP Failing

I use Emacs from Bash. I use C-x C-f to FTP into servers, to work on files. From my OSX (10.6.x), I can connect to all of my servers, but one. From Ubuntu, I can connect to all of my servers, period. The one that I cannot connect to from OSX is a Windows Server 2003 SP2 server, running Filezilla Server version 0.9.33 beta. If I try to connect to it, emacs gives me the following:

C-x C-f
(backspace to clear ~/)
/ftp:
(Emacs pauses, loads TRAMP)
/ftp:josh@site.com:/
RET
(Password prompt)
******
RET
Opening blah...
Something PWD
Warning: Unable to get home directory
Listing /ftp:josh@site.com:/ ...
(Emacs times out at this point)

The strange thing is that I can use FireFTP or FileZilla from OSX and it works just fine. It just seems to be something weird with Emacs / TRAMP / AngeFTP. Also, the Ubuntu that I'm using Emacs in is sharing /literally/ the exact same Emacs config file, from a Dropbox folder ( (load "~/Dropbox/Prefs/emacsprefs") ), so I can't imagine it's a difference in setup config.

Thanks a lot guys!

EDIT: Also, if it matters, the OSX firewall is disabled ATM, and Windows has exceptions for 21, 22, and 990.

EDIT 2: It will re run through the loop of connecting, but the FileZilla logs don't always end the same way. Here are a few of the 'endings', before it goes back to sending welcome message:

Eclipse as editor for FileZilla. How do I configure it?

I've decided to switch from Netbeans IDE to Eclipse PDT. I use FileZilla to edit files on FTP. I wish to use Eclipse PDT as default file editor for FileZilla.

I opened up FileZilla, went to Edit > Settings > File Editing and put /usr/bin/eclipseunder User custom editor radio, the way I had setup netbeans.

Now whenever I open any file for editing with FileZilla, a new instance of eclipse gets started. I want it to open as a new tab inside the already running instance of eclispe. I reckon there's some command line parameter that will get this done. But can't find it anywhere.

Cannot install FileZilla downloaded from SourceForge because I'm not connected to the internet?

I want to install FileZilla 3.7.1.1 on my new Windows 8 OS. I downloaded the installer from here, and when I opened it, I got the following message:

screencap describing problem

You must be connected to the internet to complete your installation.
Please connect and try again.

I am clearly connected to the Internet, because I can write this question... I'm not sure what is going on, but the FTP client is a necessity for me. If there's an alternative way to install FileZilla, I would like to know it. Thanks.

Where can I change the FileZilla font size running under Windows 7

I consider myself to be a pretty savvy computer user, but this one has escaped me. After reading the documentation, the blogs, the wiki, the bug trac I am still at a loss.

Does anyone know how to adjust the font size of the various FileZilla windows?

Any idea or reference to documentation I missed would be appreciated.

Unable to connect to FTP server using Filezilla with router in-between

While connecting to my web server using filezilla, i am getting this error:

I use a cradlepoint CTR35 wifi router to connect to the wired internet connection. When i connect to the same server without this router, the connection works flawlessly.

So i guess there is some problem with my router firewall settings, but i dont know what! Can somebody help me out please?

Note: The server requires EXPLICIT FTP OVER TLS and does not work with plain FTP sessions. And i can connect to other servers using plain FTP with the router in between.
