We are working on a group project written in MatLab. We all need to be able to access and write the same program, sometime simultaneously. We are working on a scientific Linux distribution. We are all physicists so we would rather find a very simple - ideally GUI, solution.
It sounds like GitHub would enable us to write simultaneously and merge mismatched code but it seems so complicated. We don't really understand the push/pull/fork/commit terminology and we would rather not study it if there is an easier option.
What is the path of least resistance for a group project in Matlab?

I would like to disable iTunes file sharing of my app. I went to info.plist and added an entry UIFileSharingEnabled
equal to NO
.
When I run the app, and go to iExplorer my apps still has visible Documnets folder Library and so on. What additional steps do I need to perform?

I want the user to be able to access the files in the documents directory but am using core data and dont want the user to be able to access the store (the sqllite db), can i hide it from the user while still allowing file sharing, or can i put it in another directory where it will still get backed up?

How do I share files (music, video, image) create by my app? I am interested in sharing audio file specifically.
Imagine I have a program that generates wav file.
How do I take it from isolated storage?
Is it possible to sent an attachment with e-mail?
Save it on SkyDrive?
Share on Facebook?
Put it to media library?
At least in some convenient for a user way to take it out from WP7 device?
Any help regarding this topic would be welcome

as the title says i wanna know how i can recognize that new file have been added to my App for example over an iTunes Sync. In iOS4 i used the methods
- (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions
or
- (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didBecomeActive
But since iOS 5, this is useless because the app will not enter the Background and become active after a sync. It stays active. So is there a way to solve this?

Ralf

I want to create a community around a current iPhone app I've built. It will allow registered users to upload and download small configuration or settings files, which are used in my app to customize functionality. These files are serialized plists (binary files around 500 bytes), but can be converted to a JSON or XML format if necessary.
I do not need an HTML front-end; I plan for it to be accessed only via my app. Files do not need to be private or secure. I do not plan to store or ask for any user private data--just a login and password.
I'm looking for tips that might get me close to my goals with the least amount of effort - I want to focus on the core functionality of the app, and have this as a stable feature that I can add to in the future if it is useful. I would of course prefer FOSS, but a commercial solution is not out of the question. Things like file sharing sites with apis, login ideas, and so on.
So, what software solutions are out there that I may not be aware of? I know that Drupal has modules to allow user logins. Is there something that would work not as a web app, but as a service only? Dropbox has file sharing and an API, but I'm not sure I could use it the way I'm intending.
In short, I could code this, but would prefer a pre-baked solution that would deal with things I may not have thought of. I am sure there must be something out there which I can use.
More Details, and what I plan on the service offering:
- Registration of users via the iPhone, and all that entails (will code the UI myself--I just want an API to connect to)
- Viewing of these files quickly and efficiently (the files were built with performance in mind, and this is a free app, so I would like to keep server costs down)
- Uploading their own files, with a few integrity checks
- Rating the files
- Gathering statistics on usage (which files were downloaded most often), etc., to provide a way for the files to be ranked by rating, popularity, etc.
- Optional - submitting revised versions of the files (a tree).
- Optional but preferred - statistics on users (no. files uploaded, perhaps rewards system for sharing)
I'm just not up to date with current technologies and open source solutions. I have experience in SQL, relational database design, and have built backends in Java, so a custom solution is not out of the question. However, it's been a while, I'm not a security expert, and would prefer to not reinvent the wheel for what is a fairly simple project, so an off-the-shelf solution would be preferred.

We are two person, working on a same project. Our Source code is in PHP. We use XAMPP
to test our code on localhost
.
We are connected through LAN, We can see and change settings of Database by access to http://192.168.192.XXX/phpmyadmin/
.
If person1 makes any changes in the code than he has to send it to the person 2 by email so that he may get the changed source code.
I want to know is there a method by which we can share our files on LAN. Because the Person 2 has to wait for person 1 to make changes and send the zip file.
is there a way by which we can keep only copy of the code , and both can access and make changes in it..
FTP is blocked in our LAN.

i want to use the "file sharing" feature in my app. I want to create a photo-app which has no content when the user starts it. Therefore the user can select an image-folder on his mac or pc. After that and starting the app on his iphone or ipad, all the content of his image-folder will be viewable.
I think its only possible to add simple files to my app - not content folders, right?
Any ideas how i could do this?
Thanks for your time and help.

I'm running Max OSX 10.9.3 and I'm trying to setup an SSHFS file-share between my MacBook Pro and a remote file system. However, when I try to do it, it doesn't work.
Strangely enough, it makes the target directory disappear. Has anyone else seen this happen? Is it a bug?
First see that I can ssh normally into the target machine:
% ssh remoteuser@XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX # <--- SSH to remote system works! See below.
remoteuser@XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX % ls -altr remoteDir
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 26 remoteuser remoteuser 4096 Jun 22 01:00 ..
drwxrwxrwx 2 remoteuser remoteuser 4096 Jun 22 01:08 .
remoteuser@XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX % exit
% # <--- Logged out of remote system
Next, I create a directory locally and verify it was created:
% pwd
/mnt
% ls
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 31 root admin 1122 Jun 18 18:34 ../
drwxr-xr-x 2 root admin 68 Jun 23 08:11 ./
% sudo mkdir share1
% ls
drwxr-xr-x 31 root admin 1122 Jun 18 18:34 ../
drwxr-xr-x 4 root admin 136 Jun 23 08:50 ./
drwxr-xr-x 2 root admin 68 Jun 23 08:50 share/
Now I try to setup the SSHFS share:
% sudo sshfs remoteuser@XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:remoteDir /mnt/share1
remoteuser@XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX's password:
%
Ok. It seems to have worked. No errors. So let's see the share we created, shall we?
% ls
ls: share1: No such file or directory
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 31 root admin 1122 Jun 18 18:34 ../
drwxr-xr-x 3 root admin 102 Jun 23 08:12 ./
What? Not only is the File Sharing not working, but the share1 directory seems to have vanished! (Although the file system seems to know it is missing, which is weird).
Where did /mnt/share1 go and how do I setup this SSHFS?

I'm trying to create a temporary file that will be automatically deleted.
stream = new FileStream(
tmpFilePath,
FileMode.OpenOrCreate,
FileAccess.ReadWrite,
FileShare.ReadWrite,
4096,
FileOptions.DeleteOnClose|FileOptions.RandomAccess
);
This file will be used by a 3rd party API which will also create a FileStream:
stream = new FileStream(
tmpFilePath,
FileMode.Open,
FileAccess.Read,
FileShare.Read);
I think I've tried all possible combination of flags but I always get a "The process cannot access the file 'XXX' because it is being used by another process..."
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way around?

SOLVED (Thanks Regexident)
I have an app that passes the file path of a PDF to a custom -(id)init
init method. It is added to the table and when it is selected, it calls the else statement for a non existent file:
- (void) gridView:(AQGridView *)gridView didSelectItemAtIndex:(NSUInteger)index {
NSLog (@"Selected theArgument=%d\n", index);
UIViewController *viewController = [[[UIViewController alloc]init]autorelease];
{
//if file is built-in, read from the bundle
if (index <= 3)
{
// first section is our build-in documents
NSString *fileURLs = [_documentIconsURLs objectAtIndex:index];
NSLog(@"file url -%@", fileURLs);
viewController = [[[xSheetMusicViewController alloc]initWithContentURL:fileURLs]autorelease];
}
//if file is external, read from URL
else
{
// second section is the contents of the Documents folder
NSString *fileURL = [_documentIconsURLs objectAtIndex:index];
NSLog(@"file url -%@", fileURL);
NSString *path;
NSString *documentsDirectoryPath = [self applicationDocumentsDirectory];
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
path = [[paths objectAtIndex:0] stringByAppendingPathComponent:fileURL];
if ([[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:documentsDirectoryPath])
{
viewController = [[[xSheetMusicViewController alloc]initWithDocumentURL:fileURL]autorelease];
}
else
{
UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Failure!" message:@"The Selected File Does Not Exist"
delegate:nil
cancelButtonTitle:@"OK"
otherButtonTitles: nil];
[alert show];
[alert release];
return;
}
}
[self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:YES animated:NO];
[UIView beginAnimations:@"animation" context:nil];
[UIView setAnimationDuration:1];
[UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionCurlDown forView:self.navigationController.view cache:YES];
[self.navigationController pushViewController:viewController animated:NO];
[UIView commitAnimations];
}
}
So whenever I have a document with no space in it's name, it pushes and inits. But when the file name has a space in it, it says it does not exist. And when I remove the if-else method, it init's, but crashes because the file doesn't exist. I've tried to replace the %20 in the file path with a regular space, but the method continues to call the else part.
So, is the file path not standardized and readable, or is my else method wrong?

Is it possible to share on-disk data between iOS applications, or are they truly sandboxed? In other words if I wanted to make a shared repository of data to be accessed (and/or modified) by one or more of my apps, could it be done?
One of the listings on the iOS features page is "Share Data Among Apps", but is this what I'm looking for, and what are the related APIs?
Googling hasn't turned up much else in this area and I know I can construct a path to just about anywhere in the iDevice directory structure. Would it be against Apple's TOA, leading my apps directly to rejection, or is there hope for such an architecture?

We have a google corporate account and need to transfer ALL of a user's google drive files to another account in certain instances. We want to do what is described at the following link for "all files" but programatically via the latest Drive API http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1247799
We are currently using the following API version(s) below, coupled with domain wide authority delegation as described at https://developers.google.com/drive/delegation and are able to see a user's files, iterate over them etc.
- google-api-services-drive 1.14.2-beta
- google-api-client 1.14.1-beta
My question is this: it appears that the only way to change permissions is by fileId by fileId etc. Instead of having to traverse and iterate over an entire set of user's files, if we just want to transfer ALL of a user's files to another particular user: is there a way in the API to do this (ownership transfer for ALL files) rather than individual requests file/by file?
Also when transferring ownershisp, must the transferee be in the same @domain or can it be another @domain we manage? I read somewhere that you can only transfer to owners in the same domain. Does this still hold true? For instance we manage @myCompany.com and have our corporate account registered under that, however that shell account has several sub-domains within it. We would like to transfer files from users in the sub-domains to a central user in the @myCompany domain.

I have a file sharing issue where my process is trying to read a log file whilst it is currently still open by NLog. In diagnosing the issue, I found something surprising. The following fails:
using (var fileStream1 = new FileStream("test.file", FileMode.Append, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.Read))
using (var fileStream2 = new FileStream("test.file", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read))
{
}
The second FileStream
constructor call fails with:
System.IO.IOException was unhandled
Message=The process cannot access the file 'c:\...\test.file' because it is being used by another process.
Source=mscorlib
StackTrace:
at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
at System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttrs, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy, Boolean useLongPath)
at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, FileShare share)
This is despite the fact that the first FileStream
indicates its willingness to share reading. What I found even more surprising was that this works:
using (var fileStream1 = new FileStream("test.file", FileMode.Append, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.Read))
using (var fileStream2 = new FileStream("test.file", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.ReadWrite))
{
}
Um, yes, requesting more access when opening the second stream actually bypasses the issue. I am completely baffled as to why that is the case, and can only assume I am misunderstanding something. I've read through the API docs but they just support my current mental model for how this should work, contrary to how it does work.
Here are some supporting quotes from the docs:
A typical use of this enumeration is to define whether two processes
can simultaneously read from the same file. For example, if a file is
opened and Read is specified, other users can open the file for
reading but not for writing.
Here's another gem:
The following FileStream constructor opens an existing file and grants
read-only access to other users (Read).
FileStream s2 = new FileStream(name, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read);
Can anyone shed any light on this behavior. I'm testing this on .NET 4 % Windows XP.

We have an application that programmatically maps network drives. On Vista with UAC on, we get some strange issues.
Our application maps the drive non-elevated, so if the user browses explorer and double clicks to run an exe, it prompts for UAC. So when they approve it, it prompts for a username/password for the share... Strange since the credentials are saved.
It turns out, an elevated process cannot access a mapped drive that was mapped from a non-elevated process.
To see this issue in action, do the following steps:
- Run cmd.exe with no UAC
- Run "net use w: \yourHostname\yourShare /user:yourUser yourPassword /persistent:yes"
- Run cmd.exe as Administrator
- Type "w:", and see the error message
At this point you can run plain "net use" and see the connection on the elevated cmd is Unavailable but the other non-elevated cmd sees it as OK.
Does anyone know a workaround to fix this issue? or maybe a way to map a network drive to "All Users"?
