I've checked it and there is no registry file or folder in /etc/mono/. I also can't find it in any subfolder, how can I resolve this question?

I'm running Fedora 20 with the latest 3.15.6 kernel

I have another setup in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and that one works, so it might be something with the mono version, or maybe I'm missing some library?

linker error while linking boost log tutorial (undefined references)

I have installed boost on Fedora 20 via yum and am trying some simple examples. However I have trouble to compile the first example from the logging tutorial.

Compiling with g++ -c boosttest.cc works fine, but I get lot's of errors when I try to link it with

g++ boosttest.o -o boosttest -lboost_log -lpthread

the full error-log:

What am I missing? What am I doing wrong?

EDIT 1: The order of -lboost_log -lpthread makes no difference in the output. There is also a very similar question, but the solution does not work for me. The following also fails with the same errors:

g++ -DBOOST_LOG_DYN_LINK boosttest.o -o boosttest -lboost_log -lpthread

What are the pros and cons of using a Mac for web development? [closed]

I have been using Fedora Linux for quite some time now for web development (and for other dev stuff as well). But just recently, someone told me that since I'm doing web development, I might as well use a Mac. I feel like Macs are overrated. Why should I (or should I not) use a Mac?

But see the Fedora version in the /etc/netplug.d/netplug file. Is it serious?

Getting python Numba working on Ubuntu 14.10 or Fedora 21 with python 2.7

Recently, I have had a frustrating time to get python Numba working on Ubuntu or Fedora Linux. The main problem has been with the compilation of llvmlite. What do I need to install for these to compile properly?

Clang link-time optimization doesn't work properly on Fedora 18

I'm a newcomer to clang, so it's likely I'm doing something silly. But I've spent several hours looking for solutions, including searching here, where I haven't found questions addressing -flto with distro-provided packages. The detail of this description are specific to Fedora 18, but I'm having similar problems on Ubuntu 13.04, so the problem isn't specific to Fedora. It's either me or clang.

Problem: I'm trying to compile a simple hello-world program using clang++ -flto to get the benefits of link-time-optimization. Without -flto it works fine. With -flto it fails to link. Invoking as clang -flto -o hello hello.o -v to see the full linker command line, I get:

$ clang++ -flto -o hello hello.o -v
clang version 3.2 (tags/RELEASE_32/final)
Target: x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu
Thread model: posix
 "/usr/bin/ld" --eh-frame-hdr -m elf_x86_64 -dynamic-linker /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 -o hello /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.7.2/../../../../lib64/crt1.o /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.7.2/../../../../lib64/crti.o /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.7.2/crtbegin.o -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.7.2 -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.7.2/../../../../lib64 -L/lib/../lib64 -L/usr/lib/../lib64 -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.7.2/../../.. -L/lib -L/usr/lib -plugin /usr/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so hello.o -lstdc++ -lm -lgcc_s -lgcc -lc -lgcc_s -lgcc /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.7.2/crtend.o /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.7.2/../../../../lib64/crtn.o
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so: error loading plugin
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so: error in plugin cleanup (ignored)
clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation)

There seem to be two problems:

  1. clang++ invokes the linker as /usr/bin/ld, and that's not the gold linker. Fedora18 installs gold as /usr/bin/ld.gold. I've tried creating a symlink from /usr/local/bin/ld to /usr/bin/ld.gold, verified that which ld says /usr/local/bin/ld, but clang++ doesn't use that. It seems to be hardwired to /usr/bin/ld.

  2. clang++ invoked the linker with -plugin /usr/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so. That's wrong, as the Fedora distribution of clang places it at /usr/lib64/llvm/LLVMgold.so.

I have tried manually invoking that linker line above with the following tweaks:

  • Replace -plugin /usr/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so with -plugin /usr/lib64/llvm/LLVMgold.so. This yields the error message hello.o: file not recognized: File format not recognized. So the non-gold linker seems to know about plugins but wont take the .o's which contain LLVM bitcode.

  • Replace /usr/bin/ld with /usr/bin/ld.gold. This works, generates an executable that runs as expected.

  • Both of the above with --plugin instead of -plugin. This change makes no difference.

So what's the best way for somebody who prefers to stick to the system-provided packages to use clang -flto? I'm hoping there is a config file, or undocumented options or environment variables that will let me override these. Or better, that I'm missing a package and a "yum install ..." will fix it.

I would prefer not to invoke the linker directly, as then my makefiles need to know system objects and libraries that they should be ignorant of (e.g. crt1.o, crtbegin.o, crtend.o). I could also build clang myself, but I'm not seeing anything in its configure script that lets me configure the path of the linker and plugin.

I'm running Fedora 18. The only non-distro packages on the computer are google chrome and VMware Tools (it's a guest inside VMWare Fusion). Versions of relevant Fedora packages (the whole computer is "yum updated" as of today, 29-Apr-2013):

Specifying alternatives in RPM dependencies

I've got a Java app that I am packaging as an RPM. Ideally I would like to specify Java as a dependency. I need to install in both Fedora and RHEL environments. The problem is RHEL Java is called 'java', while Fedora doesn't provide Oracle/Sun's distribution, leaving one to manually download from Oracle's website. Oracles distribution of Java is called either 'jre' or 'jdk' depending on which package you select.

Normally in a RPM SPEC file I would write:

Depends: java >= 1.6

But since the RHEL provides 'java', and Fedora via Sun/Oracle provides 'jre' or 'jdk' (and I can't use OpenJDK), I'm in a bit of a bind. Documentation so far hasn't shown a way to do 'java >= 1.6 || jre >= 1.6 || jdk >= 1.6' etc. Because the Java packages aren't under my control I can't just change one or the other to specify a 'Provides: Java'.

At present I see only two options:

  • Omit Java as a dependency
  • Create one RPM for Fedora, one for RHEL

I'm not keen on either option. Are there any other ways to achieve Java dependency where the providers all have different names?

Edit: A third option - create my own Java virtual package for Fedora that has a dependency on Sun's JDK RPM.

Disable Gnome 3 notifications/pop-ups/integrated notifications

I would like to disable the Gnome 3 notifications/pop-ups/integrated notifications (if that's even the right term for them). For example, they're the notifications that appear when your receive an IM via Empathy, or when Rhythmbox begins playing a new track.

I have downloaded the Gnome 3 Tweak Tool, but cannot find a solution in there. I have searched Google, the Gnome website, and the local help (via F1) but cannot find a way to turn these off. I would welcome either a solution here or a link to instructions.

I have also looked through all the hidden files in my home directory, and in /usr/share directories, and run quite a few find commands grepping (case-insensitive) for "Notification" and all sorts of substrings thereof.

I tried this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvNm3BnymAE but that did not stop the notifications from occurring.

Info:

Fedora 15 2.6.40.6-0.fc15.i686 GDM 3.0.4

Any help or direction is, as always, appreciated.

N.B. - I'd also have tried the Gnome irc channels, but irc is blocked on my network :(

OpenGl with Python

I am currently in a course that is using OpenGL and I have been using C for all the programs so far. I have Python installed on Fedora as well as OpenGL, however the minute I call an OpenGL command in my Python code, I get a segmentation fault. I have no idea why this is.

Just to avoid the "just use C" comments, here is why I want to use Python:

There are a couple reasons I am wanting to switch from C to Python, but the main one is because we are about to start writing a raytracer and I would like to use classes to make it easier on me. Since I hate classes in C++ and structs in C seems a little crazy, I thought I would give Python a try at it. I have also been looking for a reason to use Python again as it has been a while.

Thanks for any help.

How does an Amazon EC2 instance select its kernel?

I have an Amazon EC2 instance using the Amazon-supplied Fedora 8 64-bit AMI, which I would like to upgrade to Fedora 10.

I tried doing this by running "yum update" to upgrade the kernel and all packages. This seemed to work fine and I see that I now have the fc10 kernel installed, and all of my installed packages have also been updated to the Fedora 10 versions.

However, I also noticed that the fc8 kernel is still installed, and when I reboot my image it comes back running the fc8 kernel, not the fc10 kernel (I'm inferring this from the output of "uname -a").

Are there some additional steps I need to take to get my image to boot under the fc10 kernel, or is this even possible ? The Amazon documentation didn't turn up anything useful for me.

How do I execute the command 'appcfg rollback'?

While uploading the project , there was a network failure and I had to stop, when the uploading process was only 31% complete. Now when I click to deploy application to google app engine the following message is produced :

com.google.appengine.tools.admin.HttpIoException: Error posting to URL:
https://appengine.google.com/api/appversion/create?app_id=programworks&version=1&

Another transaction by user suhailgupta03 is already in progress for app:
s~programworks, version: 1. That user can undo the transaction with
"appcfg rollback".

Unable to update app: Error posting to URL: https://appengine.google.com/api/appversion/create?app_id=programworks&version=1&
409 Conflict
Another transaction by user suhailgupta03 is already in progress for app:
s~programworks, version: 1. That user can undo the transaction with "appcfg rollback".

I open my shell prompt and type in there appcfg rollback but I get a message that this command is not found.I have installed google app engine as a plugin for netbeans.

The path where I have kept the jars of google app engine : /home/non-admin/appengine-java-sdk-1.6.6/lib/

Please tell what should I do to rollback the previous process ? I badly need to upload the war file.!
