How to access the GET parameters after "?" in Express?

I know how to get the params for queries like this:

app.get('/sample/:id', routes.sample);

In this case, I can use req.params.id to get the parameter (e.g. 2 in /sample/2).

However, for url like /sample/2?color=red, how can I access the variable color?

I tried req.params.color but it didn't work.

How to get GET (query string) variables in Express.js on Node.js?

Can we get the variables in the query string in Node.js just like we get them in $_GET in PHP?

I know that in Node.js we can get the URL in the request. Is there a method to get the query string parameters?

Download a file from NodeJS Server using Express

Probably a dumb question but how can I download a file that is in my server to my machine accessing a page in a nodeJS server?

I'm using the ExpressJS and I've been trying this:

app.get('/download', function(req, res){

  var file = fs.readFileSync(__dirname + '/upload-folder/dramaticpenguin.MOV', 'binary');

  res.setHeader('Content-Length', file.length);
  res.write(file, 'binary');
  res.end();
});

But I can't get the file name and the file type ( or extension ). Can anyone help me with that?

Render basic HTML view in Node JS Express?

I have a basic node.js app that I am trying to get off the ground using Express framework. I have a views folder where I have an index.html file. But I receive the following error when loading the web browser.

Error: Cannot find module 'html'

Below is my code.

I'm fairly new to Node.js and I am having some issues.

I am using Node.js 4.10 and Express 2.4.3.

When I try to access http://127.0.0.1:8888/auth/facebook, i'll be redirected to http://127.0.0.1:8888/auth/facebook_callback.

ExpressJS How to structure an application?

I'm using the ExpressJS web framework for NodeJS.

People using ExpressJS put their environments (development, production, test ...), their routes ... on the app.js. I think that it's not a beautiful way because when you have a big application, app.js is too big !

I would like to have this structure directories :

| -- config/
     | -- environment.js
     | -- routes.js

My code works well and I think that the structure of the directories is beautiful. However, the code had to be adapted and I'm not sure that it's good/beautiful.

Is it better to use my structure of directories and adapt the code or simply use one file (app.js) ?

Enabling HTTPS on express.js

I'm trying to get HTTPS working on express.js for node, and I can't figure it out.

This is my app.js code.

When I run it, it seems to only respond to HTTP requests.

I wrote simple vanilla node.js based HTTPS app:

And when I run this app, it does respond to HTTPS requests. Note that I don't think the toString() on the fs result matters, as I've used combinations of both and still no es bueno.

EDIT TO ADD:

For production systems, you're probably better off using Nginx or HAProxy to proxy requests to your nodejs app. You can setup nginx to handle the ssl requests and just speak http to your node app.js.

For systems on using AWS, you are better off using EC2 Elastic Load Balancers to handle SSL Termination, and allow regular HTTP traffic to your EC2 web servers. For further security, setup your security group such that only the ELB is allowed to send HTTP traffic to the EC2 instances, which will prevent external unencrypted HTTP traffic from hitting your machines.

How to include route handlers in multiple files in Express?

In my NodeJS express application I have app.js that has a few common routes. Then in a wf.js file I would like to define a few more routes.

How can I get app.js to recognize other route handlers defined in wf.js file?

A simple require does not seem to work.

static files with express.js

I want to serve index.html and /media subdirectory as static files. The index file should be served both at /index.html and / URLs.

I have

web_server.use("/media", express.static(__dirname + '/media'));
web_server.use("/", express.static(__dirname));

but the second line apparently serves the entire __dirname, including all files in it (not just index.html and media), which I don't want.

I also tried

web_server.use("/", express.static(__dirname + '/index.html'));

but accessing the base URL / then leads to a request to web_server/index.html/index.html (double index.html component), which of course fails.

Any ideas?

By the way, I could find absolutely no documentation in Express on this topic (static() + its params)... frustrating. A doc link is also welcome.

I am using meanstack. I have the following use statements in my express.js

Within fiddler I can see the content-length header with a value of: 1078702

I believe this is in octets, this is 1.0787 megabytes.

I have no idea why express is not letting me post the json array I was posting previously in another express project that was not using the mean stack project structure.

node.js global variables?

I asked here: node.js require inheritance?

and was told that I can set variables to the global scope by leaving out the var.

This does not work for me.

ie:

_ = require('underscore');

Does not make the _ available on required files. I can set with express's app.set and have it available elsewhere though.

Can somebody confirm that this is supposed to work? Thanks.

File uploading with Express 4.0: req.files undefined

I'm attempting to get a simple file upload mechanism working with Express 4.0 but I keep getting undefined for req.files in the app.post body. Here is the relevant code:

How can I render inline JavaScript with Jade?

I'm trying to get JavaScript to render on my page using Jade (http://jade-lang.com/)

My project is in NodeJS with Express, eveything is working correctly until I want to write some inline JavaScript in the head. Even taking the examples from the Jade docs I can't get it to work what am I missing?
