Colors differ in the dual monitor

I use a dual monitor.

The colors appear entirely different on the new monitor than they do on my laptop.

When you are selecting colors etc, to be included in a website design, it totally freaks me out.

Is there no software solution that finds how the settings of one of the monitor is and puts that to the second one?

Otherwise what all settings do I need to change manually on the second monitor to make it appear as it does on the laptop?

Thanks in advance.

Can Windows 8 RT applications change the color temperature of your screen (a la f.lux)? [closed]

I use a program called f.lux to change the color temperature of my screen at night. This makes it easier to look at, and supposedly helps with consistent sleep patterns. You can find several similar applications around the internet.

Are Windows 8 RT applications allowed to change the color temperature of your screen? Even if there are not yet any apps that do this, I would like to know if it is possible.

Windows 7 Display Color Calibration tool does not properly set colour settings

I just bought a new monitor (LG E2351VR) and was trying to calibrate it with the Windows 7 Display Color Calibration tool. When I attempt to set the display gamma via the software slider, it temporarily changes the gamma but the changes are immediately reverted after a fraction of a second.

I installed the display driver but it was just an ICM file and it didn't change anything. How can I allow the calibration software to properly set display options?

Is it possible to customise the border width of windows in Windows 7?

Even though Windows 7 has thinner window borders than Windows Vista, they still bug me. Is there any way to reduce their width? Right now they're roughly 10 pixels wide and I'd like to make them, say, 3 pixels.

Change Overscan/Underscan settings without Catalyst Control Center

Just installed Windows 8 and downloaded the Catalyst version which ATI website recommended. However it says that it can't start! My main monitor is connected to my PC via a HDMI cable and the display is not full screen (there is a blank padding area around display). Usually I change overscan/underscan settings in CCC to reset it but since I have no access to it, I wanted to know if there is any way I can change it without CCC (through registry maybe?) Thanks.

How to reset Excel 2010 settings to Default?

Excel's cells are very small when at 100% zoom (see screenshot below):

SU525713 example

I have searched Excel's menu but couldn't find anything relevant. I tried to install Microsoft Fixit but it said it wasn't supported by my operating system (Windows 7 Home Basic).

Can anyone help restore the look of my sheet to 'as default' please?

How can I change the order of extended displays?

I have a laptop with external monitor, with option: "Extend these displays". I have my laptop on the left, physically. Therefore I would like to drag windows from big monitor to the left. However, in "Multiple display settings" my laptop screen appears on the right side. How can I change the order so, that my laptop screen would be first?

UPDATE: OS: Windows 7

How to dark adapt windows so that everything is red?

I often want to take my laptop out into the field for astronomical observations. This requires that my eyes be fully adapted to the darkness. Dark adaptation takes up to an hour to fully develop and is easy destroyed by looking at a non-red light. A pure red light does not affect dark adaptation.

I'd like to somehow change settings on my computer so that it emits only red light. The effect would be the equivalent of putting a red film on the monitor, which is what I'll resort to if I can't change settings.

Anyone know how to do this in Windows 7/8?

Terminal across two Monitors

I have two 24" Monitors connect to my Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
For some purposes it would be helpful to maximize my Terminal over both Monitors as one big Window.
I can drag a window larger with the mouse, but is there a better way?

Windows 10: Error accessing certain settings

I've just completed a clean install of Windows 10 Pro on my Thinkpad W520 (4270cto) and I've noticed a strange error that occurs when attempting to adjust certain system settings. For example, if I access "Display settings" then "Advanced display settings" and attempt to click "ClearType text," "Color calibration," or "Display adapter properties" I get the following Windows error message as displayed in the attached image:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

The strange thing is that I can access any of these settings either by finding the .exe file directly, or via the Control Panel. I am an administrator on this machine and the only one who uses it-- is this actually a security/policy issue? When I first saw the issue, I even re-installed the OS thinking a file might have been missing or corrupted, and the same issue occurs. I've noticed the issue also occurs with settings involving rundll32.exe.

Any idea what's going on here?

Is there a way to specify separate scaling factors for multiple monitors in Windows 8.1? [duplicate]

This question already has an answer here:

I have a Samsung Series 7 Ultra laptop with the latest update to Windows 8.1. I am using an additional digital monitor with the same nominal resolution (1080p) as the laptop, but much larger in size (13'' laptop vs 22'' external monitor). The two screens are set up to "Extend these displays", meaning that my desktop spans both of them showing different content.

I am aware of two option for controlling the size of elements on the screen:

  1. Choose one scaling level for all my displays
  2. Let the system scale displays while maintaining the physical size of on-screen elements (thereby changing their nominal pixel resolution when I move them from one screen to another)

If I choose option 1, I am able to specify a scaling level but item appear either two small or two big on one of the two monitors. I have no way to change the ratio of the scaling factor between the two screens.

If I choose option 2, I can specify how large item appear for both, but again I have no control over the ratio of the scaling factors for the two monitors. While the auto-selected ratio provides for similar size of elements on the two screens, it results in visibly blurry text in most software on one or both screens.

A similar question was asked several moths ago: How to use different scaling for every monitor?

However, there has been at least one major update to Windows 8.1 since, targeting screen scaling among other things (Windows 8.1 Update for x64-based Systems -- KB2919355).

My question following this update is:

Is it now possible on Windows 8.1 with KB2919355 installed, via the GUI or registry, to directly specify percent scaling separately for each attached monitor?

How to turn off the display in Windows 8 without locking or making computer go to sleep?

How to turn of the display in Windows 8 without locking or making computer go to sleep ?

The problem is that when I enable ‘Turn off display after x minutes’ feature from control panel, the device goes into sleep after ‘x’ minutes. It seems that both the options – turn off display/put computer to sleep are connected. It devices goes automatically to sleep mode as soon as the display is turned off. So, is there any method to turn off the display of the device without it going into sleep mode ?

Someone wrote in the microsoft forum " The whole key to this problem seems to be the "Turn off the Display" setting. If you have that set to 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, etc...the computer will go to sleep one minute after you lock the screen. With this setting set to "Never", it doesn't do it. So something is wrong there."

I want to turnoff the display but don't want to lock the device. Is that also possible ?

Thanks
