What happens with an excerpt from a site the user hasn't access to?

Imagine the following scenario:

- Parentsite (open for whole space)
  - Childsite (readable for User A only)

Parentsite contains an excerpt from Childsite. User A of sees the site correctly with the excerpt. But what happens with User B? Does he see the excerpt anyway? Does he get a warning instead of the actual content?

Can Confluence be used as a Yammer or Facebook replacement?

We are evaluating Confluence as a wiki and the foundation for a company intranet. We have previously used Yammer, with it's Facebook like social activity stream (post a thought, a link, a photo, and other users can comment or 'like' the post).

Does Confluence have a feature or plugin that offers this sort of functionality? To be clear, I do not want a widget that will display content pulled from Yammer or Facebook - we just want similar functionality.

I have some verbiage in a plain-text email that I would like to paste into a Confluence doc.

How can I do this without losing the formatting? In particular, there are some columns of numbers aligned with spaces. Pasting strips out all the spaces, so even if I specify a "preformatted" paragraph I've lost all alignment.

I'm using Confluence Questions as a knowledgebase for my team. Although there is a stats page, I cannot seem to find simply how many questions are in the database at a given moment.

The stats are about how many questions per week, answers peer week, and so on, but it seems there is not a metric for how many total questions there are.

When editing a confluence page, is there a way to insert some text block or section that is only shown to specific users based on their permissions or roles?

I know that a workaround may be to split the info into multiple pages and assign restrictions to every page separately, but this approach will force the privileged users to browse multiple pages to get the whole info they need.

This would be useful when needing to make changes to spaces in bulk or batches. The Spaces List Macro doesn't have a permissions or user parameter.

Removing the footer from Confluence Documentation Theme

I'm using Atlassian Confluence 4.2.6 with the Documentation Theme and would like to completely remove the footer (the thing on the bottom of e.g. this page).

I know how to change the default text or hide the footer contents via Javascript/CSS, but I'd like to remove it completely, probably by changing the Velocity template (I tried that, but without success).

Can anyone help?

Confluence naming rules for folders created through WebDAV

When I try to create folders in Confluence using WebDAV, I frequently run into issues.

For example, these directory names don't seem to be allowed:

• css
• images

Code example:

mkdir: cannot create directory `css': Permission denied

chris@localhost /cygdrive/w/Personal/~chris/Home
$ mkdir cssfolder  # This works ok!

Also, it seems that Confluence does not like a child folder if it has the same name as a grandparent's folder name.

Is there is list of the rules that define what is and isn't allowed?

Can Jira's allowable-component list come from Confluence?

Can Jira source a list of allowable-components from a set of articles (labeled things) in Confluence?

I am thinking that Jira Components, such as when they are restricted to a fixed list, represent agreed-upon items in the product chain. Confluence seems like a good place for such components to be specified, discussed, or otherwise elaborated upon.

I would really like my KB to drive the work in Jira, and give docs/context to that work. Can I do this?
