How can I record system sounds (apps) in Audacity?

Or another similar program? All I want to do is record the sounds coming from say firefox, or any other app, for use as samples in music. I need to do this in both windows and linux (ubuntu 9.10).

I have looked through the preferences of audacity but didn't find anything that let me select the system sound. Perhaps I overlooked it, because I was able to do this with earlier versions of audacity.

how to merge audio using ffmpeg, not concat

I want audio files to be merged and be the length of the longest one of course.

Not to concat them, which means adding one behind the other.

I tried googling since yesterday night, but didn't found any such thing. Is this really possible ?

How to Record Both Mic Audio and Speakers while using headset

I'm trying to record my screen with sound at the same time, but right now, my jack stopped working (it's with the red light) and I have to use a headset so that I can have sound on my Mac.

So my question is: Can I record my screen, my audio input (me babbling) and the supposed audio output that should come from speakers (that now its coming out from my headset).

Is there a way, Or is it just impossible?

How can I remove noise from an audio recording?

I used to record important technical meetings and demos using Camtasia Studio, using a Mic to capture the speaker voice.

Sometimes we invite attendees by asking them to call us in the meeting, and they would call on a cell phone then we switch it to loudspeaker so we can hear and talk to them and also record the conversation on Camtasia.

The problem I am having now is that playing back those recording produces the regular noise that results from the microphone being close to the mobile phone (the kind of noise you hear when your mobile phone rings and it is near a speaker).

Any advice on removing this noise?

How do non-realtime OSes capture audio without dropouts when sample rates are so high?

If I plug a line or USB microphone into my PC, I can record audio at 44.1kHz. That's one sample of audio about every 23 microseconds. The audio wave must be sampled and played back precisely or it will sound distorted. How do non-realtime OSes manage the very time-sensitive process of audio recording and playback with such high sample rates? Is the process any different whether the audio is played/recorded on motherboard audio versus USB speakers/microphone?

Any program can record your singing or humming, and then create the musical notes of what you sing?

I am looking for a program that can record a melody, that is record the humming of my voice and then convert said melody into the musical note version (akin to the sheets of music a pianoist uses).

What can I do to enhance MacBook Pro internal mic sound quality in iMovie?

After using MacBook for two years, I bought 17'' MacBook Pro.
I'm pretty happy with it, performance and all, but I also was going to record some music videos for YouTube. I play guitar and sing.

However I was extremely disappointed with the sound quality that comes by default. I'm 100% sure my 13'' MacBook mic was much better at recording music and singing.

Currently mic can't event handle acoustic guitar, outputting sound you'd think was recorded 5 years ago in ARM format on a Nokia phone on a loud concert. It totally feels like some lame filter is cutting low and high frequencies.

I want to know what settings (visible or hidden) in iMovie or Mac OS itself I might want to tweak in order to get my MBP mic record clean sound.

linux arecord: capture sound card output rather than microphone input

I am trying to capture sound card output and encode it in Vorbis ogg format using the following command:

arecord -f cd -t raw | oggenc - -r -o file.ogg

However, the computer's microphone input is recorded rather than the sound card output.

The output of the command arecord -l is

**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: CONEXANT Analog [CONEXANT Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

The output of the command arecord -L is contained in this pastebin entry.

The arecord man page indicates that the input device can be selected using the -D flag, but gives no syntactical examples.

I would like to know how to change the input for arecord from the microphone to the sound card. I am not interested in GUI-based alternatives such as Audacity. Thanks.

Edit: I am running Debian 7.0 (stable) with arecord version 1.0.25, vorbis-tools version 1.4.0, and ALSA driver version 1.0.24.

How to record sounds directly from my soundcard?

I want to record a sound that comes from a program in my computer, directly from my soundcard, not using crappy microphone to record it!

I was able to do this easily on WinXP by choosing "what u hear" (yes, it really had "u" in it!) device from the recording options.

But on Win7 there is no such option anywhere, and generally i dont understand the Win7 sound options at all.

NOTE: This must be Windows 7 sound settings specific, i want to fool the computer to think that my computer audio is the microphone audio, so if i "speak" on skype, they would hear any song i play on my computer. Do not suggest skype specific programs either, i want this thing to work in EVERY program on my computer, just like it did on WinXP.

EDIT finally found the working driver: SB24_VTDRV_LB_1_04_0065A.exe
