Trackpad gestures on Asus VivoBook stopped working after using mouse

I have had my laptop for a month now, and had no problems.

I recently got a mouse to go with my laptop in order to play games. However, ever since I started using this mouse, all of the gestures have completely stopped working. Whether the mouse is plugged in or not, all of my gestures are gone, even the most simple ones.

Is there anyway to fix this?

Can't set default boot to USB on Asus P7P55D-E LX motherboard

We have a machine with an Asus P7P55D-E LX motherboard. We're trying to set the default boot device to a USB attached flash drive.

We set up "Removable" as the first and only boot device in the BIOS Boot options, but it refuses to boot, UNLESS we press F8 at POST and manually select the USB option.

Asus Zenbook UX31A touchpad driver no longer works in Windows 10

As the title says, I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10 and now the multitouch no longer works. The Asus website doesn't appear to have drivers for Windows 8 or 10 (although the Windows 7 drivers worked for Windows 8.) No such luck for Windows 10.

Anybody have any luck with this? It's driving me crazy.

EDIT:

To the person who suggested this question was a duplicate - this laptop does not use a synaptic touchpad. When I try to install the drivers for the synaptic touchpad I get an error "Synaptic device not found."

If USB is not listed in BIOS as a boot option, does that mean the machine can't boot from USB?

I just purchased an Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A-DH51 with Windows 8. I want to wipe the drive and do a clean install but USB is not listed as a boot option in the BIOS. Does this mean it is not possible?

Here is a photo of my BIOS options.

enter image description here

This is the only option I get when I click Add New Boot Option. Not sure if I can add USB here.

* Update * Asus tech emailed and said: "Unfortunately with Windows 8 you can not boot from bios."

How to find ip address of my Asus RT-AC86U in Access Point mode?

I'm using an Asus wireless router model RT-AC68U and can connect fine to the internet using it wirelessly. I configured the router to be an Access Point, but having done so, I can no longer locate the GUI to adjust the router as I have no idea what its IP Address is anymore. The router is plugged into a cable modem and router which is a model SMCD3G is a business class gateway labeled Comcast Business IP Gateway. This gateway is assigning ip addresses in the range 10.1.10.XX and I went to the web interface at 10.1.10.1 and listed the connected devices and see my laptop which is connected to the Asus access point along with a few other devices, but none of the devices listed are the Asus router (I tried all the six ip addresses listed).

How can I determine the IP Address of my Asus router in access point mode so I can see the GUI interface again to control the router other than by doing a factory reset?

What does the BIOS setting XHCI Pre-Boot Mode do?

I have a BIOS setting called XHCI Pre-Boot Mode. If I have this enabled USB devices which aren't plugged in at boot are never recognised, if I set it to Disabled then USB devices work normally. The brief BIOS description says "Enable this option if you need USB3.0 support in DOS." Which I don't, but it also says "Please note that XHCI controller will be disabled if you set this item as Disabled." So does that mean that USB3 is disabled with this option? Here's a picture of the screen:

UPDATE I subsequent BIOS update seems to have fixed this issue in that USB devices work even when not plugged in at boot with this option Enabled.

Keyboard-Backlight in Device Manager?

I have an Asus N550JV, and right after buying it, I installed Windows 8.1. I downloaded all the drivers from the Asus-Homepage and installed them.

My Problem: I can't activate the keyboard-backlight anymore. Usually, I have to press fn+F4 to activate it, but it doesn't work (it's the same with some other key-combinations).

I know that the backlight still works, because it is shining for a second during booting.

My Question: What kind of driver is responsible for the keyboard-backlight, and where can I find it in the device-manager?

Does anyone know which driver I need for my Laptop?

Will an SSD speed up an Atom-based netbook?

I have an Asus EEE PC 1000H, which I bought for its light weight and great battery life. However, it is painfully slow. Judging by the constant flickering of the HDD light, disk I/O looks like a bottleneck (I've already upgraded RAM to its 2GB maximum).

Would switching to an SSD yield significant performance gains? Can the low-powered Atom architecture (N280 @ 1.66GHz, 667MHz FSB) even accommodate the high transfer rate of SATA III?

Are there any particular SSD technologies that would be a good match for this kind of system?

How do I interpret the Asus motherboard LED and beep patterns?

What are the canonical meanings of the different DRAM_LED, power button and beep patterns prior to BIOS POST on Asus motherboards? My manual and miscellaneous web searches have turned up nothing but vague notions in forums.

My specific issue is that after changing the PSU (the old one didn't die, but had a power button issue) to a Corsair AX760 and connecting only the CPU and 24 pin motherboard cables:

  • the power button on my ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard always stays red when power is on,
  • the fans start up,
  • DRAM_LED stays lit, and
  • the speaker plays a nerve-shattering single continuous beep.

After pressing the MemOK! button

  1. the computer restarts,
  2. the continuous beep continues, and
  3. DRAM_LED lights up three times then goes dark.

I've tried pressing the MemOK! button with miscellaneous configurations of memory (1st, 2nd and 3rd slot), and sometimes get three blinks, sometimes two and sometimes one. Having a reference for all of these would be extremely useful.

If I attach any other cables to the PSU (SATA, GPU) the power button stays red but doesn't do anything. That is, if I press it there's no beep, DRAM_LED light or fans running.

It should not be a power problem, since the new PSU has more wattage than the old one, and it's running the same hardware. The 24+8 motherboard+CPU connectors are all connected.

Update: After switching to the cables provided with the PSU I am now able to boot. Who knows why? Unfortunately it looks like one SSD and one HDD were fried by dust shorts in the process - The SSD is not detected and the machine refuses to start if I connect the power plug to the HDD (I tried multiple cables). In any case, the original question still stands - how do you interpret the patterns?

How to boot from USB on ASUS X551CA?

This laptop - Asus X551CA, does not have any optical drive, and I am trying to boot it from USB, so I could install an OS to it, because its newly bought and has no OS in it.

My USB is perfectly bootable, but still, even on the BIOS setup, or when I press ESC at the system start, my USB does not appear as an option to boot from.

Can somebody help me out please?

Can the Asus Zenbooks be used safely with their lids closed?

From all the images of the Zenbooks that I've seen, it would appear closing the lid would obstruct most or all airflow, potentially overheating the machines.

Is this the case? Can they be used with closed lids to allow external monitor use (like a desktop computer)?

Asus ux31e zenbook SSD non-standard / cant upgrade hdd?

I bought a ux31e asus zenbook, and the drive crashed last week. I just cancelled an mSata ssd order because I fear asus has used a non standard ssd!!! what a bunch of crooks, ive lost all my respect for this company! Can anyone confirm what and why? My SSD model is xm11 128gb - it looks like a ram chip and only has two tongues with 12 and 6 pins respectively. The drive I was about to order mSata had 8 where mine had 6 - i never bothered counting the rest.

This article seems to confirm!

Find reason of high CPU usage

I have a very strange picture in laptop ASUS K53SC running Windows 7 SP1 64 bit: first CPU core is always loaded:

first core

But in list of processes I can see that System+Idle = 100%

process list

How is that possible? Is there a way to find the reason?

Update: Looks like this time is consumed by some driver

enter image description here

Update2:

This particular problem was resolved by uninstalling WiFi driver and install another WiFi driver. The driver that does not generate high CPU load was found in CD that was shipped with the laptop.

Update3: After more than a year of looking for reason it was discovered that most probably the problem was caused by some water get into the laptop. I have now clue how was it possible, but there are signs of dried droplet inside. I gave the laptop to a hardware guy, he opened it, cleared the motherboard carefully and problem gone forever. Anyway this procedure is to be done once per two years.

Asus Zenbook has blurry icons

My Asus Zenbook (UX32VD) has a weird problem with some graphics. It is a 13 inch laptop with 1920 x 1080 resolution running Windows 8. Some graphics are very blurry and some are not. I find it very strange and have tried to upgrade my graphics card driver (NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M version 9.18.13.2018) with no luck.

The images below shows how the graphics are blurry:

Explore icon is normal, but Jottacloud setup icon and Hangouts icon are blurry.

Jottacloud setup to the left has blurry edges where the screenshot on the Jottacloud website has sharp edges.

Why are my computer doing this and how can I fix it? It looks like it only happens to some graphic elements, as you can see with the Explore icon in the taskbar looks sharp where the Jottacloud setup icon and the Hangouts icon looks blurry.
