I am trying to determine the best way to have a single listview contains different rows styles. I know how to create a custom row + custom array adapter to support a custom row for the entire list view. But how can one listview support many different row styles?

List view getListItemXmlAttributes method fails with child publication items

I have created a JS class to populate SG/Folder list view data, when items are modified. (As per Jaime's approach) Everything works great when I operate on items in the publication they're created in.

Ex: I open a component or page and the custom locked by column immediately updates and shows my user name.

However, when I go to a child publication and repeat that process, I get the window asking if I want to localize or edit the parent item. If I select to edit the parent window, the code doesn't work. I haven't quite figured it out yet with initial debugging. Chrome seems to swallow the error, Firefox gives me a cryptic:

How can I put a ListView into a ScrollView without it collapsing?

I've searched around for solutions to this problem, and the only answer I can find seems to be "don't put a ListView into a ScrollView". I have yet to see any real explanation for why though. The only reason I can seem to find is that Google doesn't think you should want to do that. Well I do, so I did.

So the question is, how can you place a ListView into a ScrollView without it collapsing to its minimum height?

Stop EditText from gaining focus at Activity startup

I have an Android Activity, with two elements:

  1. EditText
  2. ListView

When my Activity starts, the EditText immediately has input focus (flashing cursor). I don't want any control to have input focus at startup. I tried:

EditText.setSelected(false);

No luck. How can I convince the EditText to not select itself when the Activity starts?

How can I make a horizontal ListView in Android? [duplicate]

Like many things in Android, you wouldn't think this would be such a hard problem but ohhh, by golly, would you be wrong. And, like many things in Android, the API doesn't even provide a reasonably extensible starting point. I'll be damned if I'm going to roll my own ListView, when all I want is to take the thing and turn it on its side. \rant

Okay, now that I'm done fuming, let's talk about the problem itself. What I need is basically something exactly like the Gallery, but without the center-locking feature. I don't really need ListView's listSelector but it's a nice-to-have. Mostly, I could do what I want with a LinearLayout inside a ScrollView, but I need the child views to come from a ListAdapter and I would really like to have a view recycler. And I really don't want to write any layout code.

I peeked into the source code for some of these classes...

Gallery: It looks like I could use the Gallery if I override most of the 'onXyz' methods, copy all their source code, but refrain from calling scrollIntoSlots(). But I'm sure that if I do that I'll run into some member field that's inaccessible or some other unforeseen consequence.

AbsSpinner: Since the mRecycler field is package-private I doubt I'll be able to extend this class.

AbsListView: It looks like this class is only meant for vertical scrolling, so no help there.

AdapterView: I've never had to extend this class directly. If you tell me it's easy to do, and that it's easy to roll my own RecycleBin, I'll be very skeptical but I'll give it a shot.

I suppose I could possibly copy both AbsSpinner and Gallery to get what I want... hopefully those classes aren't using some package-private variable I can't access. Do y'all think that's a good practice? Does anyone have any tutorials or third-party solutions that might put me in the right direction?

The only solution I've found so far is to do it all myself. Since asking this question, I have overridden AdapterView and implemented my own "HorizontalListView" from scratch. The only way to truly override the Gallery's center-locking feature is to override the private scrollIntoSlots method, which I believe would require generating a subclass at runtime. If you're bold enough to do that, it's arguably the best solution, but I don't want to rely on undocumented methods that could change.

Swathi EP below suggested that I give the Gallery an OnTouchListener and override the scroll functionality. If you don't care about having fling support in your list, or if it's okay for the views to snap to the center at the end of the fling animation, then this will work for you! However, in the end it still proves impossible to remove the center-locking feature without removing fling support. And I ask you, what kind of list doesn't fling?

So, alas, this did not work for me. :-( But if you're interested in this approach, read on...

I also had to make some additions to Swathi's code to get what I wanted. In GestureListener.onTouch, in addition to delegating to the gesture detector, I also had to return true for ACTION_UP and ACTION_CANCEL events. That successfully disabled the center-locking feature, but it also disabled flinging. I was able to re-enable fling by having my own GestureListener delegate to the Gallery's onFling method. If you want to try it out, go into your ApiDemos sample code and replace the Gallery1.java class with the following code:

How to Animate Addition or Removal of Android ListView Rows

In iOS, there is a very easy and powerful facility to animate the addition and removal of UITableView rows, here's a clip from a youtube video showing the default animation. Note how the surrounding rows collapse onto the deleted row. This animation helps users keep track of what changed in a list and where in the list they were looking at when the data changed.

Since I've been developing on Android I've found no equivalent facility to animate individual rows in a TableView. Calling notifyDataSetChanged() on my Adapter causes the ListView to immediately update its content with new information. I'd like to show a simple animation of a new row pushing in or sliding out when the data changes, but I can't find any documented way to do this. It looks like LayoutAnimationController might hold a key to getting this to work, but when I set a LayoutAnimationController on my ListView (similar to ApiDemo's LayoutAnimation2) and remove elements from my adapter after the list has displayed, the elements disappear immediately instead of getting animated out.

I've also tried things like the following to animate an individual item when it is removed:

ListBox vs. ListView - how to choose for data binding [closed]

I'm considering either a ListBox or a ListView for a WPF application. It seems either supports data binding and item templates. My application has a simple list of items that I intend to be able to search/sort/filter based on user input. The data binding demo (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms771319.aspx) uses a ListBox with a CollectionViewSource.

Does anyone have pros/cons for which control to use and when?

how to remove line inbetween two listviews in android?

I'm using two ListViews like this:

Android: disabling highlight on listView click

I want to disable the orange highlight that occurs when touching a listView row. So far in my xml I have tried the following:

Spacing between listView Items Android

I tried to use marginBottom on the listView to make space between listView Item, but still the items are attached together.

Is it even possible? If yes, is there a specific way to do it?

Background ListView becomes black when scrolling

I have created a specific List which exists out of the following elements to create a scrollable list with every row containing a Image on the left side and some text on the right side:

To begin with a "root" layout :

As long as the screen is shown statically (as in no movement) it will be shown correctly, but when I start scrolling through the list the background of the row-item (an "icon" as can be shown in the code) will be shown correctly but the background of the "root" layout will become completely black... when the scrolling stops the background will, most of the times, get back its color... As I test I also added a TextView in that root-element with the same background, this one will detain it's color when the List is scrolled... Any idea why this is happening, and how to solve this?
