How to crop permanently in Acrobat?

After cropping anything by using the crop tool in Adobe Acrobat, how do I ensure that the cropped area is fixed and can't be seen even when I increase the crop margin?

For example: how would I crop the following example (image and text) to ensure the image and the part "I don't want to include this text" are really removed, and not hidden somewhere in the result?

enter image description here

Adobe Reader's crop tool only seems to hide the cropped part; it does not really remove it:

Is there a way to escape keyboard focus from adobe flash?

I've been trying to use the mouse less when web browsing. However, if a flash program gets the focus, it will capture the all the keyboard strokes, making it impossible to do anything without moving the mouse first. Is there any way around this?

Linux flash player settings dialog unclickable

I'm using Slackware 13. When a flash app pops up the allow/deny dialog, I'm stuck because the buttons are unclickable. My adobe flash player version is 10,0,42,34. How can I fix this problem?

Edit: I'm using fluxbox. I'm using an acer notebook with a synaptics touchpad... both the touchpad and the mouse can't interact with the dialog.

What is the scripting language available in Soundbooth CS4?

Had to edit this to make it more clear.

In ExtendScript Toolkit I see a soundbooth object. It has only a handful of functions, one of which is called sendScriptToSoundbooth() which implies you can script Soundbooth().

What is the scripting language in soundbooth and how do you get started with scripting ?

Why are Acrobat PDF tags not shown in Windows?

I have added tags such as Author, Subject and Title to some new PDF files I created. But they are not shown in Windows when I view file properties. Why?

pdf file properties

In order to see this information I have to open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat and show the Document Properties dialog (Ctrl+D).

This is what it looks like in Adobe Acrobat, the above mentioned Document Properties dialog.

document properties in adobe acrobat

Update:

I have found some interesting information on Adobe website.

When you view a PDF, you can get information about it, such as the title, the fonts used, and security settings. Some of this information is set by the person who created the document, and some is generated automatically.

In Acrobat, you can change any information that can be set by the document creator, unless the file has been saved with security settings that prevent changes.

Choose File > Properties.
Click a tab in the Document Properties dialog box.

And then there is also this:

To make a PDF easier to search, you can add file information, called metadata, to the document properties. (You can see the properties for the currently open PDF by choosing File > Properties, and clicking the Description tab.)

(Windows) You can also enter and read the data properties information from the desktop. Right-click the document in Windows Explorer, choose Properties, and click the PDF tab. Any information you type or edit in this dialog box also appears in the Document Properties Description when you open the file.

This is what I have been doing. Except I don't have a PDF tab available on my file properties dialog box. So I guess I'll have to focus on this now. Why is it missing? And how do I add it?

Update:

I have given up on this.

I just had Adobe Reader uninstalled, rebooted, had the latest version of Adobe Reader downloaded and installed, rebooted, had the Adobe Acrobat Pro Updater check for updates, new updates found and installed, rebooted, after logging back in Adobe Reader Updater automatically jumped out at me telling me about a new update even though I just had the latest downloaded and installed from Adobe website (DUH!!), but I had it do the update anyway, no reboot requested, done, end!

So now I have the latest Adobe Reader X (10.1.7) and the latest Adobe Acrobat X Pro (10.1.7). To no avail! The problem still remains, no PDF tab in properties dialog. The only way to view them is to open the PDF file in either Acrobat X Pro or Reader X and show the Document Properties window (Ctrl+D).

I read some old discussions (2011 and earlier) on this subject over at Adobe forums, and some people reported to have the PDF tab, some reported they didn't have it even though they were using the same version of the software. Some said you have to copy this and that DLL file from this and that version of Adobe Reader (kind of hacking it), some say this is not part of Adobe Reader and that it's probably part of a different software installation, some say go edit this key or string in registry, do this and that... CRAZY!!

Why can't it just work?? I have given up on this now. It is not worth my time, and it's not worth any of your time. If anyone, Adobe developers are the ones that should be looking into this, why should we do their work for them?!... they need to make better software.

And on Microsoft's part, they need to add more native metadata reading and editing capabilities directly into Windows, for any given number of file types. This should be supported out of the box. I can't believe it isn't. The PDF file format is fairly well documented and standardized. So I don't buy that argument that they can't do it because there's no generally accepted standard for embedding metadata or whatever.

Of course, e.g., JPEG file will have different metadata than a DOC or a PDF file, no one expects them to be the same. Maybe they can't do it for some file formats, but they could definitely do it for PDF, if they wanted to. If they need to they can go at it one by one, tackling each file format differently. They have the resources. Why not take the initiative and introduce a standard for embedding metadata into files?... others might just follow.

Is pdf virus proof?

I am creating a secure document portal for a client. One of the things that they are worried about is having someone upload a document with a virus. One solution that might work is to enforce that they only upload pdf files.

My question is two fold:

  1. Most importantly, is a pdf document virus proof?
  2. How can you determine in a *nix environment that a file is a pdf, besides just looking at the extension.

Thanks!

Jonathan

Explain Adobe's Deactivation Process to Me

My computer's on the fritz and in preparation of the thing going into the basement, I need to grab all the old software from it. In this case, namely the copy of CS5 on it.

I hear of a deactivation process (go into Help->Deactivate from any CS software) where it would free up a claim card of sorts to use the CS on the new computer when I get one.

When I go into the deactivator tool, there are two buttons: Suspend Activation and Deactivate Permanently. What's the difference?

How can I prevent McAfee Security Scan from being installed, bundled with other apps?

Much like Ask Toolbar is bundled with Java (and other applications), I've encountered several instances of applications bundling, and luring the user into installing, McAfee Security Scan. Adobe, I'm looking in your direction!

I'll try my best not to install McAfee Security Scan when prompted, or use Ninite (which doesn't install bundled software) when installing applications, but when providing support for my family and friends, it's obvious they don't.

How can I prevent McAfee Security Scan from being installed, e.g. bundled with other applications, in the first place?

Adobe distiller: Cambria not found, using Courier

Whenever I try to print to PDF from an MS Word 2007 document, I get this error:

Cambria not found, using Courier.

(Even though I believe I removed ALL occurrences of Cambria from the document)

The pdf doesn't get produced actually, all I get is this error log file with that message.

Edit: I found the source of the problem. It was an MS-Word equation that insists on using "Cambria Math" that the distiller was choking over. I can't seem to get equations to print to pdf though!

How do I edit a PDF in Acrobat if it rather than LiveCycle

I want to edit the the fields of a PDF in Acrobat using Forms->Add or Edit Fields which I know how to use.

Unfortunately, a new form I want to edit seems to have been made in LiveCycle designer and so keeps trying to open it in LiveCycle.

Is there a way to change this behavior and make that form editable in Acrobat Pro?

How do I remove a usage restriction from a PDF file? [duplicate]

This question already has an answer here:

I have made usage restrictions to a PDF file and protected it with a password. Now I would like to remove the protection to allow my self to do more with the document. Doing a Google search for "unlock protected pdf with password" gave me all sorts of crazy suggestions using all sorts of cracking/hacking/illegal tools.

So I refined my search and included "adobe support" and found the following page.

Removing Security from PDFs: Individually and in Batch

This is where my problems would have ended but my version of Adobe Acrobat doesn't match the version used in the description. Also, my Security tab of the Document Properties dialog box (i.e. security properties) does not have the security options as shown in the example.

This is their:

their

And this is mine:

mine

So how do I do this? Do I really have to hire a hacker for a day? Just to perform this simple task of unlocking the restrictions of my own document? I mean I know the password... hell, I thought Adobe software would be smarter than this.

I previously had the older version of Adobe Acrobat as the one shown in the example (see screenshot and link above) and I know that it was possible to remove this restriction very easily. There was even a dedicated button for this on the toolbar.

This is the Security button in old Adobe Acrobat:

security button

For the record, I have Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
