How can I update my gnome to gnome 3.18?

I'm using Gnome 15.04 currently.

What kind of scheduling algorithms are used in 15.04? Is it possible to change it?

Would like to know what scheduling mechanisms is employed in 15.04, time-sharing or real-time, I'm pretty sure its FIFO, Round Robin, SJF?

P.S: New to Linux

ACPI PPC Probe failed. Starting version 219 NVIDIA

I've recently updated to Ubuntu 15.04 and after installing the latest nvidia drivers (346.59) which worked on ubuntu 14.10 seems to have caused some trouble on boot.

All I get is the following when booting:

• A purple screen for about a second and then

  [0.514409] ACPI PPC Probe failed. Starting version 219
  

• A black screen with a message of my monitor saying : No Signal detected.

I am using a GTX 970.

After 15.04 update: Aliased/choppy icons

Just updated to 15.04, and my icons are all aliased/choppy looking now. I tried purging and reinstalling my icon themes, and I keep seeing this warning:

gtk-update-icon-cache: The generated cache was invalid.

Even switching back to the default Ubuntu icons has the same issue - all aliased.

Ubuntu 15.04 fresh install: Can't rename gnome-terminal tabs

In Ubuntu 14.10, if I had multiple Terminal Tabs open, I could right-click a Terminal tab and rename it. In Ubuntu 15.04 I can't find this feature.

Is there a easy way to get it back?

This is the current version:

Message on each startup of Java after upgrade to 15.04

I just upgraded to 15.04 and noticed that on any Java program launched, the message

Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -javaagent:/usr/share/java/jayatanaag.jar

is printed to the console (which did not happen before the upgrade). Googling it only taught me what a Java Agent is. Now:

• Why does this message appear?
• Does anybody else observe this?
• Can it be disabled?

How to enable hibernation in 15.04?

I did a clean install of 15.04, tried to enable hibernation per instruction from http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2014/10/enable-hibernate-option-in-ubuntu-14-10-unity/

but it works only if I boot with upstart and not with systemd.

How can I get it to work with systemd?

EDIT>After installing hibernate package I can run it from the terminal, but still it is not available in the shutdown menu.

Unable to locate package lib32bz2-1.0

I am trying to install Simplicity studio on Ubuntu 15.04 (64-bit) and I get this error

How to kill htop if I can't use F10?

I use htop in a terminal but I can't close it with F10. F10 seems to just open a program's File dialog. Is there a way to disable it so I can close htop normally?

Unstable wireless with Intel 7260 + iwlwifi after upgrade to 15.04

My wifi connection has gone unstable and I suspect it has something to do with upgrading to 15.04.

I am working on a Lenovo Yoga 2 (not pro) laptop. The wireless card is Intel 7260, the driver is iwlwifi.

Edit: I also posted this question on the official French Ubuntu forum (here), and a user there made remarks that raise two questions:

1. Is it possible that power management was always off on my previous version of Ubuntu (14.10)?

2. Is it normal that there is a file iwlwifi.conf in /etc/modprobe.d with the following content?

Edit 2: It seems that my problem could now be completely solved. Let me make a few clarifications: the "instability" of my connection can be summed up by two "symptoms":

1. Slow rates (concretely, max download speed at around 150Kb/s instead of 1Mb/s when it worked properly)
2. "Effective disconnection" very frequently (every 30 seconds, say). What I mean by that is that the connection is not working at all, but the wifi does not "officially" disconnect. It comes back after waiting a few seconds (10 to 20s, say) or reconnecting to the network.

At first I thought that doing sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off solved these issues completely, even if turning off power management is apparently not a "sustainable" solution (see spinxz's comments below). However I then realized that symptom #2 is still there, although much less frequently.

On the French Ubuntu forum (here), someone suggested I try to manually put the latest version of the version 12 firmware (downloadable here: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/_media/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi-7260-ucode-25.17.12.0.tgz) in /lib/firmware. I did that, and now the problem seems to be solved completely. To be honest, it might also have something to do with recent Ubuntu updates (they were a lot recently), I don't know. I am still not 100% certain the connection is back to working perfectly, or if it is only as good as the "power management off" solution, for example. I will let you know if that is the case.

Rationale for switching from upstart to systemd?

The larger change that comes with Ubuntu 15.04 is the switch from upstart to systemd as the default for managing boot and system service startup.

Could anyone adequately explain to a non-technical user how and if this affect us at all? And why it is important?

Black screen after login Kubuntu 15.04

I have updated my kubuntu 14.10 to kubuntu 15.04. And now after boot, when I enter my password on welcome screen, I will get black screen. It's looks like screen powered off. No cursor, no change brightness. Nothing. And when I try switch to text consoles (Ctrl+Alt+F1) nothing happening. If I doesn't login in welcome screen I can switch to text console.

'starting version 219' bug after the 15.04 update

After update my system to 15.04, I have an error message at the boot: 'starting build 219'.

The bug is known, its recommend to go to console mode and enter this command:

sudo systemctl enable sddm.service -f

But when I enter this command I get an error message:

After upgrading to 15.04, I have one additional driver (it did not appear in 14.10). What is the purpose of this driver and should I enable it?
